Optimum colour reception requires a good outdoor aerial. The type of aerial required
depends upon the site, its distance from the transmitter, local interference, etc.
An existing aerial previously used for black and white reception, might need re-
adjustment or re-siting for the best reception of colour signals. Roof and loft aerial
adjustments should be carried out by professional aerial contractors.
The loop aerial supplied may be used if signal strength is adequate, but if after selecting
suitable station and rotating aerial to best position picture is still noisy then a roof or loft
aerial is recommended.

Automatic Degaussing All colour television receivers are sensitive to 'magnetic influences', usually caused by
either moving the receiver from one place to another or using certain electrical appliances near the receiver. This residual magnetism as it is called, sometimes causes distortion which gives rise to 'blotchy' areas of colour in the picture. To avoid these effects the receiver incorporates an automatic degaussing circuit which operates for a short while immediately each time the receiver is switched on. This circuit removes any residual magnetism in the metal partsof the picture time the receiver is used the purity of the colours displayed on the screen remain true and lifelike.

Adjustment of picture controls Adjust the Brightness control so that the details in the darkest parts of the picture are just
discernible. Adjust the Contrast control to give a satisfactory tonal range between the light and dark sections of the picture. Adjust the Colour control for the correct colour intensity. Where possible adjust for
correct skin tones, preferably on a 'live' studio picture such as a newsreader. When the tuning and picture adjustments have been made the flap should be replaced by inserting at top first then 'clicking' bottom into place.

Check that wall socket has not become 'dead' by plugging in another electrica appliance such as a table lamp. Check fuse in mains plug. (Note: should be used in the plug.) NEVER attempt to put a plug in a wall socket without the plug cover being securely attached. NEVER attempt to use fuse wire or silver foil to repair 13-amp plugs. This is verydangerous. The only practical way to test substitute it for a known good fuse.
