Installation Instructions
Installation
1. Position the machine on a level surface, raise the
coring head, stop the engine, engage the parking brake
and remove the key from the ignition.
2. Secure the coring head service latch.
3. Remove the capscrews, washers and nuts securing the
side shields to the coring head (Fig. 1).

4. Mount the appropriate (R.H. or L.H.) side plate to the
coring head with 3/8 x 1 in. flange head capscrews and
flange nuts. Position side plate as shown in figure 2.
5. Insert a spring washer onto each end of the roller shaft
(Fig. 3).
6. Insert a roller arm onto each end of the roller shaft.
Insert a flat washer onto the right hand roller shaft.
Secure the roller shafts to the roller arms with roller
shaft screws. Thread a grease fitting into each roller
shaft screw, if not previously assembled (Fig. 3).
7. Insert the roller scraper mounting tabs into the slots in
each scraper arm (Fig. 3).
8. Install the scraper arms to the roller arms with 3/8 x
1–1/4” carriage bolts and 3/8 flange nuts (Fig. 3).

9. Align the roller arm mounting holes with the side plate
mounting holes (Fig. 4).
12. Grease each roller fitting with No. 2 Lithium Based
grease, approximately 1/2 oz. (15 ml) per end..
10. Secure the roller arms to the side plates with 5/8 x 2”
capscrews, .656 x 1.312 washers, flange bushings and
5/8 locknuts (Fig. 4).

13. Loosen the lower nuts securing the scraper arms to the
roller arms (Fig. 6). Adjust the roller scraper until
there is approximately .060” clearance between the
roller and the scraper. Tighten the nut.

11. Secure the spring assembly to the side plate and the
roller arm with spring brackets, 3/8 x 1” carriage bolts
and 3/8 flange nuts (Fig. 5). Make sure the tabs on the
spring trunnions fit into the slots in the mating parts.

14. Tighten all the fasteners.
Note: The spring is pre–adjusted at the factory but to
insure proper down pressure on the roller make sure the
compressed spring length is 15.00 inches. Adjust as
required.
Operating Tips
• Shortening the spring adjustment does not increase the
operating down pressure. It will raise the transport

height and delay the contact with the ground when
engaging the coring head.
• Hole quality can be dependent on many factors. Refer
to Operating Tips in the ProCore 648 Operator’s
Manual for additional suggestions.
