Installing Heat Shield
Removing
1. Remove lock washers and nuts holding muffler
to exhaust manifold and the lower support hardware. Move muffler away from engine. Save lock washers, nuts and lower support hardware (Fig. 1).

Touching hot components can cause burns.

Allow the machine to cool before
performing maintenance.
Do not touch engine components when hot.
2. Remove all gasket material from muffler and
engine manifold. Note: The muffler can remain in the rear
bumper area.

Note: You have to drill holes into the engine
deck if none exist for the heat shield.

4. Slide the shield rearward until it hits the muffler
tubes. Mark the center of the two outside slots. (Fig. 3).

Note: The middle hole does not need to be
drilled.
5. Remove muffler and shield. Drill two 3/8” holes
in the engine deck (Fig. 2).

1. Check the engine deck for holes under the
exhaust manifold. If there are no holes, you will need to drill holes into the engine deck (Fig. 2).
Note: If you do not need to drill holes, go to
Installing Heat Shield section on page .
2. Place the heat shield on the engine deck.
Position it so the large slots in shield face toward the rear of the machine (Fig. 3).
3. Reinstall the muffler to engine manifold. Do not
tighten hardware completely. Do not reinstall the lower support bracket (Fig. 2).
