T he follo wing procedures for installing and/or
re placing the disc harg e deflector supersede the
instr uctions found in the standard documentation
accompanying this mac hine . R etain these
instr uctions with all other documentation for y our
mac hine .

Procedure
1. P osition the disc harg e deflector assembly with
the brac k et ends betw een the w elded brac k ets
on the dec k as sho wn in Figure 1 .
2. Install the spring onto the straight end of the
rod. P osition the spring on the rod as sho wn
in Figure 1 so the shor ter spring end is coming
from under the rod before the bend and g oing
o v er the rod as it retur ns from the bend.
3. Install the spring and rod assembly through
the openings in both the dec k brac k ets and the
deflector brac k et ( Figure 1 ).

4. Lift the long end of the spring and place it into
the notc h on the deflector assembly brac k et
( Figure 2 ).
5. Secure the rod and spring assembly b y twisting
it so the shor t end of the rod can be placed
behind the front brac k et w elded to the dec k
( Figure 2 ).
Replacing the Discharge
Deector
An unco v er ed discharge opening could
allo w the la wn mo w er to thr o w objects in
the operator’ s or bystander’ s dir ection and
r esult in serious injur y . Also, contact with
the blade could occur .
Nev er operate the la wn mo w er unless y ou
install a mulch plate, discharge deflector , or
g rass collection system.
1. Diseng ag e the spring from the notc h in the
deflector brac k et and slide the rod out of the
w elded dec k brac k ets , spring, and disc harg e
deflector ( Figure 1 ). R emo v e the damag ed or
w or n disc harg e deflector .
2. P osition the new disc harg e deflector assembly
with the brac k et ends betw een the w elded
brac k ets on the dec k as sho wn in Figure 1 .

Important: T he discharge deflector
must be spring loaded in the do wn
position. Lift the deflector up to test that it
snaps to the full do wn position.
3. Install the spring onto the straight end of the
rod. P osition the spring on the rod as sho wn

4. Lift the long end of the spring and place it into
the notc h on the deflector assembly brac k et
( Figure 2 ).
5. Secure the rod and spring assembly b y twisting
it so the shor t end of the rod can be placed
behind the front brac k et w elded to the dec k
( Figure 2 ).
Important: T he discharge deflector

position. Lift the deflector up to test that it
