Operation

ChargingtheBattery

Chargethebatteryfor24hoursoruntilthechargelightonthe chargerisgreenbeforetherstuseandaftereachusethereafter.
Important:Alwayschargethebatteryaftereachuse.
Storingtheunitwithadischargedbatterywillreducethelife ofyourbattery.Thislead-acidbatteryhasnomemoryand doesnotneedtobefullydischargedbeforecharging.

StoppingtheTrimmer

Releasethetrigger.

LengtheningtheLine

Thetipofthecuttinglinewillwearduringuseandreducethe cuttingswath.

OperatingTips

WARNING
Whenthetrimmerisrunning,thecuttingheadis spinning.Ifyoucontactthecuttinglineorcuttinghead, youcouldbeinjured.
Keepthecuttingheadawayfromyourfeetand
bystanders.
Ensurethatthecuttingheadhasstoppedandthe
trimmerisunpluggedbeforeinvertingit.Donot startthetrimmerwhenitisinverted.
WARNING
Duringoperation,thetrimmermaythrowobjectsinthe operator'sorabystander'sdirection,causinginjury .
Wearsafetygogglesorothersuitableeye
protection,longpants,andshoeswhileoperating thetrimmer.
Donotusethetrimmerasanedger.
Keeppeopleandpetsawayfromthetrimmingarea.
Toreducelinewearandimprovetrimmingperformance,usethe followingtechniqueswhentrimming:
Inspecttheareatobetrimmedforanywire,rope,orstring-like
matterwhichcouldbecomeentangledintherotatingline. Removeanyobjectsordebristhatcouldbethrownbythe trimmer.
Trimonlywhenthegrassandweedsaredry.
Slowlymovethetrimmerinandoutoftheareabeingcut
(Figure5).
Toincreasethelengthoftheline,tapthespoolontheground whilethetrimmerisrunning(Figure6).

T apthespoolonlyoncetolengthentheline.Ifyouneed
additionalline,waitafewsecondsbeforetappingthespool.
Donotallowthelinetoweartooshort.
Keepthelinelengthatfullcuttingdiameterasmuchas
possible.
Ifthelineisnotadvancedoccasionally,itwillweardowntothe
eyelet.Whenthetrimmerstops,thelinetendstorelaxand mayretractintothecutterhead.Shouldthisoccur,remove thespool,re-feedthelinethroughtheeyelet,andassemble thespooltothetrimmer.

Forreplacementline,youcanpurchaseeitheranew,pre-wound spoolofline(Model88185or88045)orbulkline(0.065inch diameterx10ft)thatyoucanwindontotheoldspool.Bothare availablefromanAuthorizedServiceDealer.

CAUTION
IfyouuselineotherthanToro0.065inchdiameter nylonmonolament,itcouldcutthroughclothesand skincausinginjuryand/oroverloadthemotor,possibly causingareorelectricalshock.
Donotusemetalwire,rope,plasticknives,orany cuttinglineormaterialotherthanToro0.065inch diameternylonmonolament,10ft.maximumline length.
Thespoolmaywearduringnormaluseandrequireoccasional replacement.
Note:Ifthelineshouldtangleorbreakattheeyelet,stopthe
trimmer,removethespoolasdescribedbelow,feedtheline throughtheeyelet,andreassemblethespooltothecuttinghead.
CAUTION
Ifyoudonotfullyinstallthespoolandcap,thetrimmer couldthrowthemduringoperation,causinginjuryto theoperatororbystanders.
Ensurethatyoufullyinstallthespoolandcap,with thetwolockingtabsonthecapsecuredinthespool housing.

Thetrimmerwillnotfunctionproperlyifthelineiswound inthewrongdirection,theendofthelineprotrudes morethan3mm(1/8inch),orthelineiswoundbeyond theouteredgesofthespool.
5.Unwindnomorethan7.6cm(3inches)oflinefromspool (eitherneworre-wound)andholdthelineandspoolto preventthelinefromunraveling.
6.Whileholdingthelineandspool,placethecaponthespool.

7.Insertthelineintotheeyelet,aligningthecaptabswiththe slotsinthecutterhead.
8.Pressinthetabsandpushdownthecapandspooltolock thecapinplace(Figure9).

2.Ifthereisanycuttinglineleft(thereshouldbeashortpiece), removeanddiscardit.
3.Thoroughlycleanthetrimmerhead.Inspectforany damagedorwornparts.
4.Ifyouarewindinganewlineontotheoldspool,complete thefollowingsteps:
A.Hookoneendoflineintotheslotonthespool,allowing
nomorethan3mm(1/8inch)toprotrude,andpush theendofthelineallthewaytotheinnerendofthe slot.
B.Windthelineinthedirectionofthearrowonthespool,
inlevelrows,betweenthespoolanges(Figure8).

DisposingoftheBattery

Whenthebatterynolongerholdsacharge,youcanpurchasea newbatteryandhaveitinstalledbyanAuthorizedServiceDealer. Ifyouwanttodiscardthetrimmer ,removeandrecyclethebattery beforediscardingthetrimmer.
1.Removethe8screwsthatsecurethetwohalvesofthe handlesectiontogetherandpullthehalvesapart.
2.Removethebatteryanddisconnectitfromthewireleads.
3.Discardthetrimmer.
4.Recyclethelead-acidbatteryaccordingtolocalcodes.

Maintenance
Aftereachuseofthetrimmer,dothefollowing:
Wipethetrimmercleanwithadampcloth.Donothosethe
trimmerdownorsubmerseitinwater.
Wipeorscrapecleananyaccumulationofdirtorcuttingsfrom
thetrimmerheadandspool.
Checkandtightenallfasteners.Ifanypartisdamagedor
lost,repairorreplaceit.
Removeanydebrisawayfromairintakevents(Figure11).

Torohasdesignedthisproducttogiveyouyearsoftrouble-free use.Shoulditneedservice,taketheproducttoanAuthorized ServiceDealer.
Storage
Foridleperiodsofmorethanamonth,disconnectthecharger fromthepoweroutletandtrimmerafterthetrimmerisfully charged.Donotstorethetrimmerwiththechargerpluggedin. Storingthetrimmerinawarmareawilldecreasethebatterylife.If youmuststorethetrimmerinawarmarea,chargethebatteryfor 24hoursevery2to3monthsduringstorage.

AcompanyinvolvedinaProp65lawsuitreachingasettlementmayberequiredtouseProp65warningsforitsproducts,butothercompanies
makingsimilarproductsmayhavenosuchrequirement.
TheenforcementofProp65isinconsistent.
CompaniesmayelectnottoprovidewarningsbecausetheyconcludethattheyarenotrequiredtodosounderProp65;alackofwarningsfora
productdoesnotmeanthattheproductisfreeoflistedchemicalsatsimilarlevels.

WhydoesToroincludethiswarning?

Torohaschosentoprovideconsumerswithasmuchinformationaspossiblesothattheycanmakeinformeddecisionsabouttheproductstheybuyand use.Toroprovideswarningsincertaincasesbasedonitsknowledgeofthepresenceofoneormorelistedchemicalswithoutevaluatingthelevelof exposure,asnotallthelistedchemicalsprovideexposurelimitrequirements.WhiletheexposurefromToroproductsmaybenegligibleorwellwithinthe “nosignicantrisk”range,outofanabundanceofcaution,T orohaselectedtoprovidetheProp65warnings.Moreover ,ifT orodoesnotprovidethese warnings,itcouldbesuedbytheStateofCaliforniaorbyprivatepartiesseekingtoenforceProp65andsubjecttosubstantialpenalties.
