ChargingtheBattery

Chargethebatteryfor24hoursoruntilthechargelightonthe chargerisgreenbeforetherstuseandaftereachusethereafter.
Important:Alwayschargethebatteryaftereachuse.Storing theunitwithadischargedbatterywillreducethelifeofyour battery.Thislead-acidbatteryhasnomemoryanddoesnot needtobefullydischargedbeforecharging.
1.Insertthechargeplugintothetrimmerreceptacle(
Figure3).
Note:Thechargelightisalwaysonwhenthetrimmeris connectedtothechargerandtothepoweroutlet;itstayson evenafterthebatteryisfullycharged.

OperatingTips

WARNING
Whenthetrimmerisrunning,thecuttingheadis spinning.Ifyoucontactthecuttinglineorcuttinghead, youcouldbeinjured.
Keepthecuttingheadawayfromyourfeetand
bystanders.
Ensurethatthecuttingheadhasstoppedandthe
trimmerisunpluggedbeforeinvertingit.Donot startthetrimmerwhenitisinverted.
WARNING
Duringoperation,thetrimmermaythrowobjectsinthe operator'sorabystander'sdirection,causinginjury.
Wearsafetygogglesorothersuitableeye
protection,longpants,andshoeswhileoperating thetrimmer.
Donotusethetrimmerasanedger.
Keeppeopleandpetsawayfromthetrimmingarea.
Toreducelinewearandandimprovetrimmingperformance,use thefollowingtechniqueswhentrimming:
Inspecttheareatobetrimmedforanywire,rope,orstring-like
matterwhichcouldbecomeentangledintherotatingline. Removeanyobjectsordebristhatcouldbethrownbythe trimmer.
Trimonlywhenthegrassandweedsaredry.
Slowlymovethetrimmerinandoutoftheareabeingcut
(
Figure5).
Toincreasethelengthoftheline,tapthespoolontheground whilethetrimmerisrunning(Figure6).

Important:Takethefollowingprecautionstoensureoptimal lineperformance:
Donotholdthespoolontheground.
Tapthespoolonlyoncetolengthentheline.Ifyouneed
additionalline,waitafewsecondsbeforetappingthespool.
Donotallowthelinetoweartooshort.
Keepthelinelengthatfullcuttingdiameterasmuchas
possible.
Ifthelineisnotadvancedoccasionally,itwillweardowntothe
eyelet.Whenthetrimmerstops,thelinetendstorelaxand mayretractintothecutterhead.Shouldthisoccur,remove thespool,re-feedthelinethroughtheeyelet,andassemble thespooltothetrimmer.

ReplacingtheLine

Forreplacementline,youcanpurchaseeitheranew,pre-wound spoolofline(modelno.88185or88045)orbulkline(0.065inch dia.x10ft.)thatyoucanwindontotheoldspool.Bothare availablefromanAuthorizedT oroServiceDealer .
CAUTION
IfyouuselineotherthanT oro.065inchdia.nylon monolament,itcouldcutthroughclothesandskin causinginjuryand/oroverloadthemotor,possibly causingareorelectricalshock.Donotusemetal wire,rope,plasticknives,oranycuttinglineormaterial otherthanToro.065inchdia.nylonmonolament,10 footmaximumlinelength.
Thespoolmaywearduringnormaluseandrequireoccasional replacement.
Note:Ifthelineshouldtangleorbreakattheeyelet,stopthe trimmer,removethespoolasdescribedbelow,feedtheline throughtheeyelet,andreassemblethespooltothecuttinghead.

CAUTION
Ifyoudonotfullyinstallthespoolandcap,thetrimmer couldthrowthemduringoperation,causinginjuryto theoperatororbystanders.Ensurethatyoufullyinstall thespoolandcap,withthetwolockingtabsonthecap securedinthespoolhousing.
1.Pressinthetabsoneachsideofthecap(Figure7).

Thetrimmerwillnotfunctionproperlyifthelineiswound inthewrongdirection,theendofthelineprotrudes morethan1/8inch,orthelineiswoundbeyondthe outeredgesofthespool.
5.Unwindnomorethan3inchesoflinefromspool(eithernew orre-wound)andholdthelineandspooltopreventtheline fromunraveling.
6.Whileholdingthelineandspool,placethecaponthespool.
7.Insertthelineintotheeyelet,aligningthecaptabswiththe slotsinthecutterhead.
8.Pressinthetabsandpushdownthecapandspooltolock thecapinplace(Figure9).

nomorethan1/8inchtoprotrude,andpushtheend ofthelineallthewaytotheinnerendoftheslot.
B.Windthelineinthedirectionofthearrowonthespool,

Maintenance
Aftereachuseofthetrimmer,dothefollowing:
Wipethetrimmercleanwithadampcloth.Donothosethe
trimmerdownorsubmerseitinwater.
Wipeorscrapecleananyaccumulationofdirtorcuttingsfrom
thetrimmerheadandspool.

Checkandtightenallfasteners.Ifanypartisdamagedor
lost,repairorreplaceit.
Removeanydebrisawayfromairintakevents(Figure11).

Foridleperiodsofmorethanamonth,disconnectthecharger fromthepoweroutletandtrimmerafterthetrimmerisfully charged.Donotstorethetrimmerwiththechargerpluggedin. Storingthetrimmerinawarmareawilldecreasethebatterylife.If youmuststorethetrimmerinawarmarea,chargethebatteryfor 24hoursevery2to3monthsduringstorage.
Important:Keeptheairintakeventsfreeofgrassand debristopreventthemotorfromoverheating.

DisposingoftheBattery

Whenthebatterynolongerholdsacharge,youcanpurchasea newbatteryandhaveitinstalledbyanAuthorizedT oroService Dealer.Ifyouwanttodiscardthetrimmer,removeandrecyclethe batterybeforediscardingthetrimmer.
