Preparation
•Evaluatetheterraintodeterminewhataccessoriesand
attachmentsareneededtoproperlyandsafelyperform
thejob.Onlyuseaccessoriesandattachmentsapproved
byToro.
•Wearappropriateclothingincludingsafetyglasses,
substantialfootwear,longtrousers,andhearing
protection.Donotoperatewhenbarefootorwhen
wearingopensandals.Longhair,looseclothingorjewelry
maygettangledinmovingparts.

Wearhearingprotectionwhenoperatingthis
machine.
•Inspecttheareawheretheequipmentistobeusedand
removeallrocks,toys,sticks,wires,bones,andother
foreignobjectswhichcanbethrownbythemachineand
maycausepersonalinjurytotheoperatororbystanders.

Incertainconditionsgasolineisextremely
ammableandvaporsareexplosive.
Areorexplosionfromgasolinecanburnyou,
others,andcausepropertydamage.
–Fillthefueltankoutdoorsonlevelground,in
anopenarea,whentheengineiscold.Wipe
upanygasolinethatspills.
–Neverrellthefueltankordrainthemachine
indoorsorinsideanenclosedtrailer.
–Donotllthefueltankcompletelyfull.Fill
thefueltanktothebottomofthellerneck.
Theemptyspaceinthetankallowsgasoline
toexpand.Overllingmayresultinfuel
leakageordamagetotheengineoremission
system.
–Neversmokewhenhandlinggasoline,and
stayawayfromanopenameorwhere
gasolinefumesmaybeignitedbyspark.
Incertainconditionsduringfueling,static
electricitycanbereleasedcausingasparkwhich
canignitegasolinevapors.Areorexplosion
fromgasolinecanburnyouandothersand
causepropertydamage.
–Alwaysplacegasolinecontainersonthe
groundawayfromyourvehiclebeforelling.
–Donotllgasolinecontainersinsidea
vehicleoronatruckortrailerbedbecause
interiorcarpetsorplastictruckbedliners
mayinsulatethecontainerandslowtheloss
ofanystaticcharge.
–Whenpractical,removegas-powered
equipmentfromthetruckortrailerandrefuel
theequipmentwithitswheelsontheground.
–Ifthisisnotpossible,thenrefuelsuch
equipmentonatruckortrailerfroma
portablecontainer,ratherthanfroma
gasolinedispensernozzle.
–Ifagasolinedispensernozzlemustbeused,
keepthenozzleincontactwiththerimofthe
fueltankorcontaineropeningatalltimes
untilfuelingiscomplete.

Engineexhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,which
isanodorlessdeadlypoisonthatcankillyou.
Donotrunengineindoorsorinasmallconned
areawheredangerouscarbonmonoxidefumescan
collect.
•Operateonlyindaylightorgoodarticiallight,keeping
awayfromholesandhiddenhazards.
•Lightningcancausesevereinjuryordeath.Iflightning
isseenorthunderisheardinthearea,Donotoperate
themachine;seekshelter.
•Besurealldrivesareinneutralandparkingbrakeis
engagedbeforestartingengine.
•Neveroperatethemachinewithdamagedguards,shields,
orcovers.Alwayshavesafetyshields,guards,switchesand
otherdevicesinplaceandinproperworkingcondition.
•Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingoroverspeed
theengine.
•Parkmachineonlevelground.Stopengine,waitforall

slidingandlossofcontrol.Wheelsdroppingover
edges,ditches,steepbanks,orwatercancause
rollovers,whichmayresultinseriousinjury,death
ordrowning.
•Donotoperateonslopeswhengrassiswet.
•Donotoperateneardrop-offsornearwater.
•Donotoperateonslopesgreaterthan15degrees.
•Reducespeedanduseextremecautionon
slopes.
•Avoidsuddenturnsorrapidspeedchanges.
•Reducetinedownpressuretopreventthedrivetiresfrom
raisingoffthegroundandtopreventthefronttiresfrom
raisingoffofthegroundwhileaeratinguphill.
•RefertoFigure2todeterminetheapproximateslope
angleoftheareatobeaerated.
•Removeormarkobstaclessuchasrocks,treelimbs,etc.
