Training
ReadtheOperator'sManualandothertraining
material.Iftheoperator(s)ormechanic(s)cannot readorunderstandtheinformationitistheowner's responsibilitytoexplainthismaterialtothem.
Becomefamiliarwiththesafeoperationofthe
equipment,operatorcontrols,andsafetysigns.
Alloperatorsandmechanicsshouldbetrained.
Theownerisresponsiblefortrainingtheusers.
Neverletchildrenoruntrainedpeopleoperateor
servicetheequipment.Localregulationsmay restricttheageoftheoperator.
Theowner/usercanpreventandisresponsible
foraccidentsorinjuriesoccurringtopeopleor damagetoproperty.
Preparation
Evaluatetheterraintodeterminewhataccessories
andattachmentsareneededtoproperlyand safelyperformthejob.Useonlyaccessoriesand attachmentsapprovedbythemanufacturer.
Wearappropriateclothing;includingsafety
glasses,longpants,substantial,slip-resistant footwear,gloves,andhearingprotection.Tieback longhair.Donotwearjewelry.
Inspecttheareawhereyouwillusetheequipment
andremoveallobjectsfromtheareabeforeusing themachine.
Useextracarewhenhandlingfuels.Theyare
ammableanditsvaporsareexplosive.
–Useonlyanapprovedcontainer.
–Donotremovethefuelcaporaddfuelwiththe
enginerunning.Allowtheenginetocoolbefore
refueling.Donotsmokenearthemachine whentheengineisrunning.
–Donotrefuelordrainthemachineindoors.
Checkthattheoperator'spresencecontrols,safety
switches,andshieldsareattachedandfunctioning properly.Donotoperatethemachineunlessthey arefunctioningproperly.
Operation
Lightningcancausesevereinjuryordeath.If
lightningisseen,orthunderisheardinthearea, donotoperatethemachine;seekshelter.
Donotrunanengineinanenclosedarea.
Onlyoperateinwell-litareas,keepingawayfrom
holesandhiddenhazards.
Ensurethatalldrivesareinneutralandthatthe
parkingbrakeisengagedbeforestartingengine. Onlystarttheenginefromtheoperator’sposition.
Makesurethatyouhavegoodfootingwhileusing
thismachine,especiallywhenbackingup.
Note:Reducedfootingcouldcauseslipping.
Slowdownanduseextracareonhillsides.Be
suretotravelsidetosideonhillsides.Turf conditionscanaffectthestabilityofthemachine. Usecautionwhileoperatingneardrop-offs.
Slowdownandusecautionwhenmakingturns
andwhenchangingdirectionsonslopes.
NeverraisethedeckwiththePTOengaged.
NeveroperatewiththePTOshieldorotherguards
notsecurelyinplace.Besureallinterlocksare attached,adjustedproperly,andfunctioning properly.
Neveroperatewiththedischargedeectorraised,
removedoraltered,unlessyouareusingagrass catcher.
Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingor
overspeedtheengine.
Stoponlevelground,disengagedrives,engage
theparkingbrake(ifprovided),andshutoffthe enginebeforeleavingtheoperator'spositionfor anyreason,includingemptyingthecatchersor uncloggingthechute.
Shutofftheequipmentandinspecttheblades
afterstrikingobjectsorifanabnormalvibration occurs.Makenecessaryrepairsbeforeresuming operation.
Keepyourhandsandfeetawayfromthecutting
unit.
Lookbehindanddownbeforebackinguptobe
sureofaclearpath.
Nevercarrypassengersonthemachine.

Safehandlingoffuels
Toavoidpersonalinjuryorpropertydamage,use
extremecareinhandlingfuel.Fuelisextremely ammableandthevaporsareexplosive.
Extinguishallcigarettes,cigars,pipes,andother
sourcesofignition.
Useonlyanapprovedfuelcontainer.
Donotremovethefuelcaporaddfuelwiththe
enginerunning.
Allowtheenginetocoolbeforefueling.
Donotfuelthemachineindoors.
Donotstorethemachineorfuelcontainerwhere
thereisanopename,spark,orpilotlightsuchas onawaterheateroronotherappliances.
Donotllcontainersinsideavehicle,onatruck,
oronatrailerbedwithaplasticliner.Alwaysplace containersonthegroundawayfromyourvehicle beforelling.
Removeequipmentfromthetruckortrailerand
fuelitontheground.Ifthisisnotpossible, thenaddfuelwithsuchequipmentasaportable containerratherthanfromafuel-dispensernozzle.
Keepthenozzleincontactwiththerimofthefuel
tankorcontaineropeningatalltimesuntilfueling iscomplete.Donotuseanozzlelock-opendevice.
Iffuelisspilledonclothing,changeyourclothing
immediately.
Donotoverllthefueltank.Replacethefuelcap
andtightenitsecurely.
Lettheenginecoolbeforestoring,anddonot
storeitnearaame.
Shutoffthefuelwhilestoringortransportingthe
machine.Donotstorefuelnearamesordrainit indoors.
Parkthemachineonlevelground.Engagethe
parkingbrake.Neverallowuntrainedpersonnel toservicethemachine.
Usejackstandstosupportcomponentswhen
required.
Carefullyreleasepressurefromcomponentswith
storedenergy.
Disconnectthebatteryorthespark-plugwire
beforemakinganyrepairs.Disconnectthe negativeterminalrstandthepositivelast. Connectthepositiverstandnegativelast.
Usecarewhencheckingtheblades.Wrapthe
blade(s)orweargloves,andusecautionwhen servicingthem.Onlyreplaceblades.Never straightenorweldthem.
Keepyourhandsandfeetawayfrommoving
parts.Ifpossible,donotmakeadjustmentswith theenginerunning.
Keepallpartsingoodworkingconditionandall
hardwaretightened.Replaceallwornordamaged decals.
Tobestprotectyourinvestmentandmaintain
optimalperformanceofyourToroequipment,count onT orogenuineparts.Whenitcomestoreliability , Torodeliversreplacementpartsdesignedtothe exactengineeringspecicationsofourequipment. Forpeaceofmind,insistonT orogenuineparts.
Hauling
Usecarewhenloadingorunloadingthemachine
intoatrailerortruck.
Usefull-widthrampsforloadingmachineinto
trailerortruck.
Tiethemachinedownsecurelyusingstraps,
chains,cable,orropes.Bothfrontandrearstraps shouldbedirecteddownandoutwardfromthe machine.
MaintenanceandStorage
Disengagedrives,engagetheparkingbrake,shut
offtheengineandremovethekeyordisconnect thespark-plugwire.Waitforallmovementto stopbeforeadjusting,cleaning,orrepairingthe machine.
Cleangrassanddebrisfromthecuttingunit,the
drives,themufers,andtheenginetohelpprevent res.Cleanupoilorfuelspills.

ToroMowerSafety

Thefollowinglistcontainssafetyinformationspecic toToroproductsandothersafetyinformationyou mustknow.
Thisproductisdesignedforcuttingandrecycling grassor,whenequippedwithagrassbagger,for catchingcutgrass.Anyuseforpurposesotherthan thesecouldprovedangeroustoyouandbystanders.

Checkcarefullyforoverheadclearances(i.e.,
branches,doorways,electricalwires)before operatingthemachineunderanyobjects,anddo notcontactthem.
SlopeOperation

Removeobstaclessuchasrocks,treelimbs,etc.

AddingFuel

Forbestresults,useonlyclean,fresh(lessthan
30daysold),unleadedgasolinewithanoctane ratingof87orhigher((R+M)/2ratingmethod).
Ethanol:Gasolinewithupto10%ethanol
(gasohol)or15%MTBE(methyltertiarybutyl ether)byvolumeisacceptable.Ethanoland MTBEarenotthesame.Gasolinewith15% ethanol(E15)byvolumeisnotapprovedforuse. Neverusegasolinethatcontainsmorethan10% ethanolbyvolume,suchasE15(contains15% ethanol),E20(contains20%ethanol),orE85 (containsupto85%ethanol).Usingunapproved gasolinemaycauseperformanceproblemsand/or enginedamagewhichmaynotbecoveredunder warranty.
Donotusegasolinecontainingmethanol.
Donotstorefueleitherinthefueltankorfuel
containersoverthewinterunlessyouuseafuel stabilizer.
Donotaddoiltogasoline.
