ActivatingandCharging theBattery

Activateandchargethebattery.
Mountthemachinetothetractionunit.
Removethemachinefromthetraction unit.
Use

Batteryelectrolytecontainssulfuricacid, whichisadeadlypoisonandcauses severeburns.
Donotdrinkelectrolyteandavoid contactwithskin,eyes,orclothing. Wearsafetyglassestoshieldyour eyesandrubberglovestoprotect yourhands.

1.Unlatchandopenthebatterycompartment cover.
2.Removethebatteryfromthebattery compartment.
3.Cleanthetopofthebatteryandremovethevent caps.
4.Carefullylleachcellwithelectrolyteuntilthe electrolyteisuptothellline.
Useonlyelectrolyte(1.260specicgravity)to llthebatteryinitially.
Fillthebatterywherecleanwateris alwaysavailableforushingtheskin.
5.Connecta3to4Abatterychargertothebattery posts.Chargethebatteryatarateof3to4Afor 4to8hours.
6.Removethellercapsandslowlyaddelectrolyte toeachcelluntilthelevelisuptothellline. Installthellercaps.
Important:Donotoverllthebattery.
Electrolytewilloverowontootherparts ofthemachineandseverecorrosionand deteriorationwillresult.
WARNING
Chargingthebatteryproducesgasses thatcanexplode.
Neversmokenearthebatteryandkeep sparksandamesawayfromthebattery.
7.Whenthebatteryischarged,disconnectthe chargerfromtheelectricaloutletandbattery posts.Allowthebatterytositfor5to10minutes beforeproceedingtothenextstep.

Note:Afterthebatteryhasbeenactivated,
addonlydistilledwatertoreplacenormalloss, althoughmaintenance-freebatteriesshouldnot requirewaterundernormaloperatingconditions.
8.Insertthebatteryintothetrayinthebattery compartment.Positionthebatterysothatthe terminalsaretotheinside.
WARNING
Batteryterminalsormetaltoolscould shortagainstmetalcomponentsofthe tractionunitormachine,causingsparks. Sparkscancausethebatterygassesto explode,resultinginpersonalinjury.
Whenremovingorinstallingthe battery,donotallowthebattery terminalstotouchanymetalpartsof themachine.
Donotallowmetaltoolstoshort betweenthebatteryterminalsandany metalparts.
9.Attachthepositivecable(redcablefromthe ignitionswitch)tothepositive(+)terminal.
10.Attachthenegativecable(blackcablefromthe engineblock)tothenegative(–)terminalofthe battery.
12.Installthebatterycoverandsecureitwiththe springs.

Procedure
Toensureproperdebrispickup,ensurethatthe machineframeisparallelwiththeground.
1.Positionthemachineonaat,levelsurface.
2.Removethepinandrotatethejacktothe ground.Aligntheholesandinstallthepin.
3.Adjustthejacksothatthedistancefromthetop oftheframetothegroundis59.7cm(23-1/2 inches)(Figure3).
Important:Ensurethatthereisclearance
betweenthebatterycablesandthespeed selectorlever.Verifythatthespeedselector leverdoesnotcomewithin1inch(2.5cm)of eitherbatterycablewhenitismovedthrough itsentirerangeofmotion.Donotwireor tapethenegativeandpositivebatterycables together.
WARNING
Incorrectbatterycableroutingcould damagethemachineandcables,causing sparks.Sparkscancausethebattery gassestoexplode,resultinginpersonal injury.
Alwaysdisconnectthenegative (black)batterycablebefore disconnectingthepositive(red) cable.
Alwaysconnectthepositive(red) batterycablebeforeconnectingthe negative(black)cable.

7.Raisethejack,removethepin,rotatethejackto thestoragepositionandsecurewiththepin.

Disconnectingthemachinefromthetraction unitmayallowthemachinetotipbackward, causinginjury.
Alwaysemptythehopperbefore disconnectingthemachinefromthe tractionunit.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurfaceandchock thewheels.
2.Removethepinandrotatethejackdown.Align theholesandinstallthepin.
3.Lowerthejacktothegroundtostabilizethe machine.
4.Continuetoraisethemachinewiththejackuntil thelynchpinandhitchpincanberemovedfrom thehitch.
5.Movethetractionunitawayfromthemachine.
6.Storethelynchpinandhitchpininthehitch tongue.

FlapLever
Movetheapleverdownwardtotheengagedposition andupwardforthedisengagedposition.Movethe levertotheupwardpositionwhentransportingthe machine.

whenpickinguplargeamountsofleaves.
ReelLever
IgnitionSwitch
Theignitionswitch,whichisusedtostartandshut offtheengine,hasthreepositions:OFF,RUN,and START.RotatethekeyclockwisetotheSTARTposition toengagethestartermotor.Releasethekeywhen theenginestarts(Figure5).Thekeywillmove automaticallytotheRUNposition.T oshutoffthe engine,rotatethekeycounterclockwisetotheOFF position.
ThrottleControl
Thethrottle(Figure5)isusedtooperatetheengineat variousspeeds.MovingthethrottlelevertotheFAST positionincreasestheenginespeed.T odecreasethe enginespeed,movethelevertotheSLOWposition.
Movethereelleverforwardtoraisetheextipreel. Tolowertheexreel,movetheleverforward,release thecatch,thenmovethelevertotherearuntilithits thestop.Movethelevertotheraisedpositionwhen themachineisnotinoperation,whenstoringthe machine,orwhentransportingthemachine(Figure4).

Pullthetailgatelatchropetounlatchthetailgatewhen emptyingthehopper(Figure6).Whentheropeisnot inuse,winditaroundtheharnessmount.
