USER MANUAL

1. Introduction

To all residents of the European Union
Important environmental information about this product

This symbol on the device or the package indicates that disposal of the device after its lifecycle could
harm the environment. Do not dispose of the unit (or batteries) as unsorted municipal waste; it should
be taken to a specialized company for recycling. This device should be returned to your distributor or to
a local recycling service. Respect the local environmental rules.

If in doubt, contact your local waste disposal authorities.

Thank you for choosing Toolland. Please read the manual thoroughly before bringing this device into service. If
the device was damaged in transit, do not install or use it and contact your dealer.

2. Safety Instructions

Outdoor use only.

Keep this device away from children and unauthorized users.

This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory
or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision
or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

Children shall be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

There are no user-serviceable parts inside the device. Refer to an authorized dealer for service and/or
spare parts.

Keep this device away from rain, moisture, splashing and dripping liquids.

Do not use near inflammable products or in explosive atmospheres. Heat can cause fire to
inflammable products even when they are not in sight. Only use in properly ventilated areas.

Device heats up during use. Never touch the nozzle or heat shield while using the device. Let the
device cool down for 30 minutes. Some parts of the device get really hot, even after a short use.

Device

 Only assemble and use the device as described in this manual.
 Never modify or repair the device yourself but have it repaired by qualified personnel.
 Only use accessories approved by the manufacturer.

Gas Canister

 Carefully read the user manual before connecting a gas canister.
 Check the hose before every use. Do not use the hose if it is visibly damaged or worn.
 Make sure all parts are ready to be used before connecting the gas canister.
 Connect the gas hose to the burner first and then to the gas canister.
 Always connect the gas canister outside or in a properly ventilated room, away from open flames, sparks

and electronic devices. Keep bystanders at a safe distance.

 Never smoke when handling gas-related devices or connecting the gas canister.
 Make sure all taps, valves and connections on the burner and canister are undamaged, properly fitted and

closed.

 Check all connections for gas leaks and make sure they are gastight before every use.
 Protect gas canisters from extreme temperatures and damages. Replace damaged parts in time.
 Replace the hose at most every 5 years after their production date, sooner after intensive use or exposure

to harsh circumstances (heat, cold, rubbing…). It is advised to replace the hose every 3 years.

During Use

 Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating the device. Do not use the

device when you are tired or under influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.

 Do not overreach. Keep proper position and balance at all times.
 Dress in a suitable manner. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep hair, clothing and gloves away

from moving parts.

 Never aim the device directly at humans or animals.
 Do not use the device as a heat source in your house or for melting ice and snow or for any other use than

intended.

 Always point the nozzle at the ground and away from persons, animals and objects.
 Never use the burner in a cellar or closed rooms, near heat sources or open flames, and near inflammable

products and materials. Keep bystanders at a safe distance.

 Do not inhale the fumes released by the burner.
 Never wring or twist the hose and protect it from sharp objects.
 Switch off the burner when it is not in use and close the gas tap on the gas canister. Never leave the burner

unattended.

 Using a new gas canister can affect the flame due to thermal differences. This is normal and the flame will

re-adjust after a few minutes of use.

3. General Guidelines

Refer to the Velleman® Service and Quality Warranty on the last pages of this manual.

Keep this device away from dust and extreme temperatures.

Protect this device from shocks and abuse. Avoid brute force when operating the device.

 Familiarise yourself with the functions of the device before actually using it.
 All modifications of the device are forbidden for safety reasons. Damage caused by user modifications to

the device is not covered by the warranty.

 Only use the device for its intended purpose. Using the device in an unauthorised way will void the

warranty.

 Unplug the device immediately if the cable has been damaged.
 Never block the air intake of the device.
 Damage caused by disregard of certain guidelines in this manual is not covered by the warranty and the

dealer will not accept responsibility for any ensuing defects or problems.

 This device is not intended for professional use.
 This device serves exclusively to eliminate sprawl between paving stones, on paved areas, from masonry,

in flower beds and lawns during the growth period.

 Keep this manual for future reference.

5. Operation

5.1 General Operation

1. Connect the pressure regulator [5] to the gas canister.

2. Connect the gas hose [6] to the pressure regulator [5] and the handle [3]. Remember that the screw

threads are left-handed.

3. Make sure all parts are properly connected and perform a gas leak test (see below). You can switch on the

weed burner only if it has passed the gas leak test.

4. Slowly open the gas tap. Then, slightly open the gas flow regulator valve [2] on the handle [3]. Be careful

not to open it too much as the gas pressure could blow out the flame. Let the air escape from the hose [6]
and burner, and wait until you hear the gas flow.

5. Slowly open the gas flow regulator valve [2] on the handle [3] to increase the gas pressure. Bring a flame

in front of the lighter nozzle [4]. Let the flame burn for a few seconds. Make sure not to let the flame grow
too much as this will decrease efficiency.

6. Pinch the handle [3] to produce a pointed blue flame. The flame size depends on how far the gas flow

regulator valve [2] is opened. Remember to point the flame at the ground and away from persons, animals
and objects.

7. Keep the nozzle [4] at a distance of approximately 15 cm of the weed. Gently waft the nozzle

approximately 5 seconds over the weed. Do not burn the plant completely, only the heat is needed.
Stronger weeds or woody stems (wild grass, roots, etc.) may require a repeat application. If necessary,
repeat this procedure after a few days. Do not use this device on flower beds or lawns.

8. Release the handle [3] to pause; the blue flame will disappear and the yellow flame will reappear. If

necessary, reduce the gas pressure by slightly closing the gas flow regulator valve [2]. Make sure not to
leave the pilot light burning when interrupting your work for more than a few seconds.

9. To switch off the burner, first close the gas tap completely and let the gas inside the burner consume. Only

when the pilot light has extinguished can you close the gas flow regulator valve [2] completely.

WARNING

Never touch the nozzle immediately after use. Risk of burn injuries!

Leave the weed burner to cool completely before disconnecting and storing.

10. Disconnect the hose [6] from the gas canister. Always move a gas canister in its vertical position. Store

your weed burner and gas canister properly. Never refill or modify a gas canister.

5.2 Checking for Gas Leaks

Check for gas leaks before using the weed burner. Always perform the test in the open air.

1. Carefully close the gas tap and make sure to use a full gas canister.

2. Prepare a test solution made of one part liquid soap and one part water.

3. Use a brush, cloth or plant mister and apply the soapy solution on every (hose) connection and part where

a leak is suspected.

Test all connections for gas leaks using a soapy solution.

4. Slightly open the gas tap. Bubbles will show the presence of a gas leak. If so, immediately close the gas

tap. Check and tighten all connections, re-open the gas tap and test again. If bubbles re-appear, contact an
authorised dealer.

WARNING

Never test for gas leaks with a flame! Perform the test away from flames and

fire. Do not smoke when performing the test.

Close the gas tap and check for gas leaks if there is a persistent gas smell.

5.3 Storing a Gas Canister

 Carefully close the gas tap and remove the pressure regulator.
 Store a gas canister outside or in a properly ventilated room. Propane may be exposed to frost; butane

must be stored at an ambient temperature higher than 5 °C.

 Never store a gas canister in a cellar or near a cellar door. Gas is heavier than air and will therefore flow to

the lowest possible area.

 Never store a gas canister near heat sources, inflammable products and materials.
 Always store a gas canister on a stable surface and in a vertical position.
 Keep a gas canister out of the reach of children.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance

 Wipe with a damp cloth to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents or strong

detergents.

 Clean the device and accessories before storing.

Storing

 Make sure the device has completely cooled down before storing.
 Store the device, its accessories and this user manual in the original packaging.
 Always store in a cool and dry place.

HANDLEIDING

1. Inleiding

Belangrijke milieu-informatie betreffende dit product

Dit symbool op het toestel of de verpakking geeft aan dat, als het na zijn levenscyclus wordt
weggeworpen, dit toestel schade kan toebrengen aan het milieu. Gooi dit toestel (en eventuele
batterijen) niet bij het gewone huishoudelijke afval; het moet bij een gespecialiseerd bedrijf
terechtkomen voor recyclage. U moet dit toestel naar uw verdeler of naar een lokaal recyclagepunt
brengen. Respecteer de plaatselijke milieuwetgeving.

Hebt u vragen, contacteer dan de plaatselijke autoriteiten betreffende de verwijdering.

2. Veiligheidsvoorschriften

Uitsluitend voor gebruik buitenshuis.

Houd dit toestel buiten het bereik van kinderen en onbevoegden.

Dit toestel is niet geschikt voor gebruik door personen (kinderen inbegrepen) met verminderde
fysieke, zintuiglijke of geestelijke capaciteiten of gebrek aan ervaring en kennis, tenzij zij onder
toezicht staan of instructie hebben gekregen over het gebruik van het toestel van een persoon die
verantwoordelijk is voor hun veiligheid.

Houd toezicht op kinderen om te voorkomen dat ze met het toestel spelen.

Er zijn geen onderdelen in het toestel die door de gebruiker gerepareerd kunnen worden. Contacteer
uw verdeler voor eventuele reserveonderdelen.

Bescherm dit toestel tegen regen, vochtigheid en opspattende vloeistoffen.

Vermijd gebruik in de buurt van brandbare producten of explosieve gassen. Door de hitte kunnen
brandbare stoffen ontvlammen, ook wanneer deze niet zichtbaar zijn. Gebruik enkel in een goed
geventileerde ruimte.

Dit toestel wordt zeer warm tijdens het gebruik. Raak nooit de brander of de bescherming aan. Laat
het toestel 30 minuten afkoelen. Sommige onderdelen worden, zelfs na kort gebruik, heel warm.

Toestel

 Monteer en gebruik het toestel enkel zoals beschreven in deze handleiding.
 Laat onderhoud of reparaties over aan een vakman.
 Gebruik uitsluitend originele accessoires of onderdelen, die door de fabrikant zijn goedgekeurd.

Gasfles

 Lees zorgvuldig de handleiding voor het aansluiten van een gasfles.
 Controleer de slang voor elk gebruik. Gebruik de slang niet indien deze zichtbaar beschadigd of versleten is.
 Zorg ervoor dat alle onderdelen gebruiksklaar zijn voor het aansluiten van de gasfles.
 Sluit de gasslang eerst aan op de onkruidbrander en daarna op de gasfles.
 Sluit de gasfles steeds buiten of in een goed geventileerde ruimte aan. Bescherm tegen open vuur, vonken

en elektronische toestellen. Houd omstanders op een veilige afstand.

 Rook nooit tijdens het gebruik van gastoestellen of het aansluiten van de gasfles.
 Controleer of alle kranen, ventielen en aansluitingen op de onkruidbrander en de gasfles onbeschadigd zijn,

goed bevestigd zitten en dicht gedraaid zijn.

 Controleer alle aansluitingen op gaslekken en zorg ervoor dat deze gasdicht zijn voor elk gebruik.

 Bescherm gasflessen tegen extreme temperaturen en beschadiging. Vervang onmiddellijk beschadigde

onderdelen.

 Vervang de slang maximaal 5 jaar na de productiedatum, vaker bij intensief gebruik of blootstelling aan

extreme omstandigheden (warmte, koude, wrijving, ...). Het is raadzaam om de slang elke 3 jaar te
vervangen.

Gebruik

 Wees alert, let goed op wat u doet en ga verstandig te werk. Gebruik het toestel niet als u moe bent of

onder invloed van drugs, alcohol of medicijnen.

 Zorg voor een veilige houding. Zorg dat u uw evenwicht niet verliest.
 Draag gepaste kleding. Draag geen wijde kleren of sieraden. Houd uw haar, kleren en handschoenen buiten

het bereik van bewegende delen.

 Richt het toestel nooit rechtstreeks op mensen of dieren.
 Gebruik het toestel niet als warmtebron binnenshuis of om ijs en sneeuw te smelten.
 Houd de brander naar beneden gericht en uit de buurt van personen, dieren en voorwerpen.
 Gebruik de brander nooit in een kelder of besloten ruimtes, in de nabijheid van warmtebronnen of open

vlammen en in de buurt van ontvlambare producten en materialen. Houd omstanders op een veilige
afstand.

 Adem de dampen van de brander niet in.
 Zorg ervoor dat de slang niet beschadigd wordt door scherpe voorwerpen.
 Schakel de onkruidbrander uit wanneer deze niet in gebruik is en draai de gaskraan op de gasfles dicht.

Laat het toestel nooit onbeheerd achter.

 Bij aansluiten van een nieuwe gasfles, kan een temperatuurverschil de grootte van de vlam beïnvloeden.

Dit is normaal en de vlam wordt opnieuw stabiel na enkele minuten gebruik.

3. Algemene richtlijnen

Raadpleeg de Velleman® service- en kwaliteitsgarantie achteraan deze handleiding.

Bescherm het toestel tegen stof en extreme temperaturen.

Bescherm tegen schokken. Vermijd brute kracht tijdens de bediening van het toestel.

 Leer eerst de functies van het toestel kennen voor u het gaat gebruiken.
 Om veiligheidsredenen mag u geen wijzigingen aanbrengen aan het toestel. Schade door wijzigingen die de

gebruiker heeft aangebracht aan het toestel valt niet onder de garantie.

 Gebruik het toestel enkel waarvoor het gemaakt is. De garantie vervalt automatisch bij ongeoorloofd

gebruik.

 Ontkoppel het toestel onmiddellijk indien de voedingskabel beschadigd is.
 Blokkeer nooit de luchtinlaat van het toestel.
 De garantie geldt niet voor schade door het negeren van bepaalde richtlijnen in deze handleiding en uw

dealer zal de verantwoordelijkheid afwijzen voor defecten of problemen die hier rechtstreeks verband mee
houden.

 Dit toestel is niet geschikt voor professioneel gebruik.
 Dit toestel dient uitsluitend voor het verwijderen van onkruid tussen tegels, op verharde oppervlakken, van

stenen, in bloemperken en gazons tijdens de bloeiperiode.

 Bewaar deze handleiding voor verdere raadpleging.

5. Gebruik

5.1 Algemeen

1. Sluit de drukregelaar [5] aan op de gasfles.

2. Sluit de gasslang [6] aan op de drukregelaar [5] en de handgreep [3]. Onthoud dat de schroefdraad

linksdraaiend is.

3. Zorg ervoor dat alle onderdelen correct zijn aangesloten en voer een gaslektest uit (zie onder). Alleen na de

gaslektest kunt u de onkruidbrander inschakelen.

4. Draai voorzichtig de gaskraan open. Draai vervolgens het reduceerventiel [2] op de handgreep [3]

voorzichtig open. Let op dat u het reduceerventiel niet te veel opendraait, de gasdruk zou de vlam kunnen
doven. Laat de lucht uit de slang [6] en de onkruidbrander ontsnappen, en wacht tot u het gas hoort
stromen.

5. Druk op de ontstekingsknop [2] om een gele waakvlam in de onkruidbrander te ontsteken. Breng een vlam

voor de brander [4]. Laat de vlam gedurende enkele seconden branden. Zorg ervoor dat de vlam niet te
groot wordt, dat vermindert de werking.

6. Druk op de handgreep [3] om een blauwe vlam te produceren. De grootte van de vlam is afhankelijk van

hoever het reduceerventiel [2] is opengedraaid. Houd de vlam naar beneden gericht en uit de buurt van
personen, dieren en voorwerpen.

7. Houd de brander [4] op een afstand van ongeveer 15 cm van de plant. Beweeg voorzichtig de brander heen

en weer over het onkruid gedurende 5 seconden. Zorg ervoor dat u de plant niet volledig verbrand, maar
enkel verhit. Hardnekkig of vertakt onkruid (wild gras, wortel, enz.) moet langer aan de hitte blootgesteld
worden. Herhaal deze procedure na een paar dagen indien nodig. De onkruidbrander is niet geschikt voor
bloembedden of gazons.

8. Laat de handgreep [3] los om te stoppen. De blauwe vlam verdwijnt en de gele vlam verschijnt. Indien

nodig, verminder de gasdruk door het reduceerventiel [2] voorzichtig dicht te draaien. Laat de waakvlam
nooit onbeheerd branden.

9. Om het toestel uit te schakelen, draai eerst de gaskraan volledig dicht en laat het gas opbranden in de

onkruidbrander. Alleen wanneer de waakvlam uit is, kunt u het reduceerventiel [2] volledig dichtdraaien.

WAARSCHUWING

Raak de brander nooit aan na gebruik. Gevaar voor brandwonden!

Laat de onkruidbrander volledig afkoelen voordat u deze ontkoppelt en opbergt.

10. Ontkoppel de slang [6] van de gasfles. Verplaats een gasfles altijd rechtop. Bewaar de onkruidbrander en

de gasfles op een correcte manier. Wijzig of vul een gasfles nooit.

5.2 Controle op gaslekken

Controleer op gaslekken voordat u de onkruidbrander gebruikt. Voer de test altijd buitenshuis uit.

1. Draai voorzichtig de gaskraan dicht en gebruik een volle gasfles.

2. Maak een zeepoplossing van 1 deel vloeibare zeep en 1 deel water.

3. Gebruik een borstel, doek of verstuiver en breng de zeepoplossing aan op alle (slang)aansluitingen en het

onderdeel waar een lek gedetecteerd is.

Test alle aansluitingen op gaslekken met een zeepoplossing.

4. Draai voorzichtig de gaskraan open. Bellen duiden op de aanwezigheid van een gaslek. Is dit het geval, sluit

onmiddellijk de gaskraan. Controleer en draai alle aansluitingen vast. Open de gaskraan en test opnieuw.
Als er opnieuw bellen verschijnen, contacteer dan een verdeler.

WAARSCHUWING

Test een gaslek nooit met een open vlam! Blijf uit de buurt van vlammen en

vuur. Rook niet tijdens de test.

Draai de gaskraan dicht en controleer op gaslekken bij het waarnemen van een

indringende gasgeur.

5.3 Een gasfles bewaren

 Draai voorzichtig de gaskraan dicht en verwijder de drukregelaar.
 Bewaar een gasfles buiten of in een goed geventileerde ruimte. Propaan mag worden blootgesteld aan

vorst. Butaan moet bewaard worden bij een omgevingstemperatuur hoger dan 5 °C.

 Bewaar een gasfles nooit in een kelder of naast een kelderdeur. Gas is zwaarder dan lucht en vloeit naar

het laagste punt.

 Bewaar een gasfles nooit in de nabijheid van warmtebronnen, ontvlambare producten en materialen.
 Bewaar een gasfles altijd rechtop en op een stabiel oppervlak.
 Houd een gasfles buiten het bereik van kinderen.

6. Reiniging en onderhoud

 Reinig het toestel af en toe met een vochtige doek. Gebruik geen bijtende chemische producten,

reinigingsmiddelen of sterke detergenten.

 Reinig het toestel en de toebehoren voor u het opbergt.

Opslag

 Zorg ervoor dat het toestel volledig is afgekoeld voordat u het opbergt.
 Bewaar het toestel, de toebehoren en deze handleiding in de oorspronkelijke verpakking.
 Bewaar het toestel steeds in een koele en droge ruimte.
