Standard Telecaster Wiring
Thanks for purchasing a Tonerider Telecaster Pickup. By far the easiest way to a trouble-free installation is to carefully note down the solder points of your previous pickup before removal.
Most Telecaster-type guitars use a 3-way switch, and we’ve included a large, easy-to-read diagram for this standard configuration.
All Tonerider pickups have a 5-year warranty when purchased new. Please keep your receipt and see the enclosed warranty card for details.
POLARITY.
- Neck: North Pole Up / Counter-Clockwise Wind.
- Bridge: South Pole Up / Clockwise Wind
THE QUICK GUIDE: * Install the neck pickup into the cavity using
the two wood screws and latex tubing provided. Set the height of the neck pickup to approximately 2mm above the pickguard. * The bridge pickup should be mounted to the bridge plate using the three machine screws and latex tubing provided. * The WHITE and YELLOW pickup wires from the pickups should be soldered to the correct lugs of the 5-way switch. * The BLACK pickup wires should be soldered to a ground point, normally the back of the volume pot. * Reinstall the pickguard and re-string the guitar. * Pressing the strings against the high frets, set the bridge pickup height to approximately 2mm. from the strings and adjust to taste.
CAPACITOR & POTENTIOMETER VALUES
We design all our Telecaster pickups to perform with the most standard industry configurations 250k Audio pots and 0.047uf capacitors. A
0.02uf capacitor will roll off less high-end and is a good alternative. Players who like very bright Tele tones might like to experiment with 500k or even 1Meg volume pots.
