Tone Freak Severe User Manual

Thank you for your purchase of the
SEVERE by Tone Freak Effects! The SEVERE is a heavy Distortion box. Placed
in front of a clean amp, the SEVERE will take your tone into a heavy driven territory capable of playing your most aggressive tunes. With a slightly or more driven amp, the SEVERE™ will be the only distortion box you need for any solo work.
CONTROLS Gain: Increase the gain of the unit by turning
the knob clockwise. Turning the knob counter clockwise will decrease the gain. Tone: Turing the knob clockwise will increase the high-end tone. Counter clockwise will
increase the low-end tone. Level: To increase the output volume, turn the knob clockwise. By turning the volume control counter clockwise, you will decrease the output volume.
“Brite” Switch – The SEVERE has a 3 position switch that adjusts the top end of the unit to accommodate for different styles of amps. The “Brite” switch changes the frequencies the Tone control covers. The middle position is the brightest setting.
3-Way Mini-Toggle (Top): SEVERE has 3 different clipping sections.
Right position uses symmetrical clipping and has the most “amp-like” characteristic of the clipping variations. This position has the most gain and compression compared to the other two positions.
Left position engages the asymmetrical clipping. You will find this position to have a higher output volume from the Right position, so adjust your Level control to compensate. Asymmetrical clipping produces a more “classic” quality compared to the other two positions.
Middle position is also called the “diode lift” position. The Left and Right positions use diodes to clip the signal, but the Middle position doesn’t have any diodes, so the resulting tone is more “open” than the other two positions. NOTE: The Middle position has the highest output volume, so be careful when engaging this position.
The SEVERE uses a 9V battery or a 2.1 mm center negative pin power adapter.
