Setup
Install the Battery
Before using the TIF785 for the first time, it is necessary to
install the supplied 9 volt battery.
1. The battery cover is on the
back of the tool. Push down on
the ribbed area until the battery
cover moves and can be
flipped up.
2. Install the 9V battery to the
battery harness.
3. Place the battery into the cavity
and close the battery cover.

Operating Instructions
Non-Contact Use
1. Apply the reflective tape as close as possible to the outer
edge of the object to be measured.
2.
Hold the tachometer in your hand, and press “MEAS” button.
3. Point the laser spot at the object, and read the
measurement on the primary display.

light source near
the target, such as
a uorescent lamp,
may cause a false
reading and should
be avoided.

Operating Instructions
Contact Use
1. Thread the contact adapter into the outlet on top of the
tachometer. CAUTION: To prevent equipment damage,
do not over tighten the adapter.
2.
Select an adapter. Slide it onto the contact adapter shaft,
aligning the notch in the adapter with the pin on the shaft.
3.
Hold the tachometer in your hand, and press “MEAS” button.
4. Hold the contact probe steadily and firmly against the object
to ensure an accurate reading is obtained. Read the
measurement on the primary display.

Functions
Scan
1. The current measurement is shown in the primary display.
The display holds the most recent values until the
tachometer is turned OFF.
Memory
The tachometer can store or recall 40 total measurements :
10 measurements each for MAX, MIN, AVG, and DATA.
1. Press the “MEAS” button until the reading appears on the
primary display.
2. Press the “M” button to record the data. The MAX, MIN,
AVG, and DATA measurements are stored as part of
an event.

1. Press the “M” button to view the stored data in the primary
display.
2. Press and hold the “M” button for three seconds to quickly
scroll through each stored data set.

There are two groups of measurement :

1. Press the “U” button to view the stored data within each
group.
2. Press and hold the “U” button for three seconds to switch
between the two groups.

Maintenance
General Care
Use clean, compressed air to blow loose particles off the

lens. Use a soft brush to remove remaining debris. Use a
cotton swab moistened with water to wipe the lens surface.
CAUTION: To prevent equipment damage, do not use
solvents to clean the lens.
Use only a soft cloth dampened with mild soap to clean the
•
body of the tool.
CAUTION: To prevent equipment damage, protect the
inside of the tachometer from liquids and moisture.
This tool is a precision electronic device. Avoid extreme
•
mechanical shock, exposure to strong magnetic fields, and
extreme temperatures. Never immerse the tool into a liquid.
Disposal
Batteries are recyclable. Do not incinerate or
expose batteries to open flames. Dispose of
batteries according to local, state, and federal
regulations.

Warranty
This product has been produced to provide unlimited
service. Should it become inoperable after the user has
performed the recommended maintenance, a no-charge
repair or replacement will be made to the original purchaser.
This applies to all repairable units that have not been
damaged or tampered with. The claim must be made
within ONE YEAR of the date of purchase.
Damage caused by abuse or misuse of this tool is not
covered under warranty.
