Trotz unzähliger Versuche großer Konzerne, die Schallplatte
(und mit ihr die analoge Musik an sich) lautlos vom Markt
zu verdrängen, haben wir bei Thorens analoge Technik
konsequent weiterentwickelt, weil wir glauben, dass Musik
so am besten klingt, wie sie entstanden ist, nämlich analog.
Genau deshalb sind wir der Meinung, dass die gute alte
Vinylplatte noch lange nicht am Ende ist. Vielmehr fängt sie
gerade erst dort an, wo CD-Spieler aufhören und mp3­Player lange schon nicht mehr zu sehen sind: Bei der unver­fälschten, originalgetreuen Musikwiedergabe. Und so adelt
ein analoges Laufwerk seinen Besitzer als einen Genießer,
der fernab kurzlebiger Trends und hektischer Digitalklänge,

in der Musik Entspannung und Kraft zu nden vermag. Für

diejenigen, die Musik nicht nur als Nebensache betrachten,
ist und bleibt Vinyl erste Wahl!

Thorens hat sich dieser Maxime verpichtet. Sämtliche Ge­räte arbeiten vollständig analog, ohne jede digitale Signal­veränderung – vom Plattenspieler bis zur Endstufe. Das hört
man und darum verbinden Musikfreunde aus aller Welt den

Namen Thorens mit HiFi-Geräten höchster Wiedergabe-

und Verarbeitungsqualität.

Um diesem Anspruch in jeder Hinsicht gerecht zu werden,
entwickeln und produzieren wir auch heute noch nahezu all

unsere Geräte in Deutschland. In jedem steckt so ein Stück

deutsche Handwerkskunst auf die wir sehr stolz sind.

In spite of many attempts by global players of the music
business to silently edge out the vinyl record (and with it
analog music per se) from the market, we at Thorens have
consequently further developed analog technology. It’s
because we do believe that music still sounds best the way
it’s being created, namely analog. Exactly for this reason we
also believe that the good old vinyl record is far from tak­ing its terminal breath. This ist even more so, since the LP
starts where most CD players stop and MP3 players have

already disappeared: the unspoiled, high-delity rendition

of music. In this respect the analog turntable will always
portray its owner as a music connoisseur who is looking for
relaxation and gathering strength through music rather than

one who courts short-lived trends and digital gloss over. For

those who consider music a most important issue, the vinyl

record will always be rst choice anyway!

We at Thorens feel bound to analog. This is why our pro-

ducts, from record player to power amplier, only operate

completely in the analog domain, i.e. without any digital
signal modulation. You can certainly hear this. This is why
music lovers all over the world always associate Thorens

with hi- components of the highest quality in sound and

craftsmanship.

In order to cope with this high demand in every respect,
nearly all products are still developed and manufactured in
Germany. This means each product embraces the kind of
craftwork known as “Made in Germany”, which we are very
proud of.

Bei der Konstruktion unserer Plattenspieler verfolgen wir
verschiedene technische Konzepte. Alle haben gemeinsam,
dass wir sie auf Basis bewährter Thorens Teile stetig weiter­entwickeln. Für die Modelle mit außenliegendem Antriebs­riemen wurde z.B. eigens eine aufwendige Motorensteue-

rung konstruiert, die u.a. dafür sorgt, dass der Teller ohne

Probleme aus dem Stand anläuft und sofort exakte Dreh­zahlen erreicht. Aber auch das traditionelle Antriebsprinzip

mit innenliegendem Flachriemen hat mit dem neuen TD 160

HD zahlreiche Verbesserungen erfahren.

Neue Federn sorgen bei den Modellen mit Subchassis für

eine noch bessere Dämpfung von Schwingungen. In Ver­bindung mit den vielen bewährten Thorens Teilen, wie z.B.
der Achs-/Lager Kombination, steht so am Ende stets ein
technisch hochwertiges und fortschrittliches Produkt, das
dank jahrzehntelang erprobter Basistechnik auch im Alltag

eine gute Figur macht.

In bester Thorens Tradition machen wir so Gutes
noch besser!

When designing and building our record players we are
usually following up various technical concepts. All have in
common that we are further developing them on the basis

of tried and tested Thorens components. For example, the

record players with directly belt-driven platters were pro­vided with an elaborate electronic motor controls which,
among other tasks, took care that the platter immediately
reached its exact rpm after it was started up. The traditional

drive principle with a at belt beneath the main platter has

gone through numerous improvements also.

New high-tech suspension springs employed in the units
with suspended chassis ensure an even better dampening
of oscillations. This combined with many proven Thorens
components, such as the spindle-bearing assembly, etc.
eventually yields a technically high-grade and advanced
product, which thanks to tried and tested basic technolo-

gies will certainly cut a ne gure in day-to-day life also.

In the best of Thorens tradition, we are making good
things better still!





d: Der TD 158 ist ein kompletter und komfortabler Plat-
tenspieler mit allem was dazu gehört. Ein vollautomatischer
Betriebsmodus, eine elektronische Geschwindigkeitsum­schaltung und eine hochwertige Acrylhaube zum Schutz vor
Staub sind hierbei selbstverständlich.

Tonarm und Tonabnehmer sind vorinstalliert und bereits
optimal justiert. Alle notwendigen Anschlusskabel werden
mitgeliefert. Mit nur wenigen Handgriffen ist der Plattenspie­ler betriebsbereit. So einfach ist der Einstieg in die Welt der
analogen Musik!

player. Plug-and-play, so to speak. It goes without saying
that it features a fully automatic mode of operation, an elec­tronic speed selector and last but not least, a high-quality
acrylic cover to keep dust away.

Tonearm and cartridge have been pre-mounted and
painstakingly adjusted in the factory. All necessary leads are
supplied with the unit and the record player is ready to play

with a ick of the wrist. The entry into the wonderful world of

analog music is as simple as this!

Umdrehungen pro Minute wiedergeben kann (hierzu wird

– das ist die 800er Serie. Das Herzstück aller drei Modelle
bildet dabei das völlig wartungsfreie Thorens Silent-Run

Lager. Seine spiegelpolierte Edelstahlachse hat ein kugel­förmig ausgebildetes Punktlager und läuft in zwei war­tungsfreien Buchsen. Den AC-Synchronmotor steuert eine
ausgelagerte Motorelektronik, deren Sinus-Ausgangssignal
vollkommen unabhängig vom Wechselspannungsnetz

erzeugt wird. Das Chassis besteht aus MDF, das – je nach

Modell – elastisch mit einer Stahlplatte verklebt ist. So wer­den Vibrationen perfekt absorbiert. Ein rundum moderner

Plattenspieler für ambitionierte Musikliebhaber.

e: Straightforward, modern design and innovative tech-

nology are very typical for the Thorens 800-series. The heart

of each model is the absolutely maintenance-free Thorens
silent-run bearing. The mirror-polished spindle with ball­shaped bearing tip is made from high-grade steel and runs
inside two bushings. The AC synchronous motor is control­led by an external power supply in which the sine output
voltage driving the motor is generated independently from

the mains frequency. The plinth is made from MDF which

- depending on the model - is then elastically glued to a
steel plate. This measure guarantees the perfect absorption
of any vibration. All in all, this is a modern record player for
discriminating music lovers.
