15/25/35kV 600/900 AMP
Deadbreak Plug and Well Products
CONTENTS: Plug or Well, Lubricant (DO NOT SUBSTITUTE), Installation Instructions.
The plug and well are power distribution product accessories designed for use on 600/900 ampere systems. They can bemated
witha 600 ampere elbowor bushingextension. They can also be used on singlephase laterals of 3 phasecircuits. Refer to mating
product installation instructions:

DANGER
All apparatus must be de--energized during installation
or removal of part(s).
Do not touch or move energized products in the work
area.
These instructions do not attempt to provide for every
possible contingency.
Failure to follow these instructions will result in damage
to the product and serious or fatal injury.
This product should be installed only by competent
personnel trained in good safety practices involving
high voltage electrical equipment. These instructions
are not intended as a substitute for adequate training or
experience in such safety practices.

All apparatus must be installed and operated in
accordancewith individual user, local, and national work
rules.
For loadbreak products follow operating instructions.
All deadbreak connectors must be de--energized before
operating. All 200A deadbreak connectors must be
mechanically secured with bails when connected.
If this product is supplied with a protective shipping
cover(s), remove this shipping cover(s) and replace with
the appropriate HV insulated cap(s) or connector(s)
before submerging or energizing the circuit.
Inspect parts for damage, rating and compatibility with
mating parts.
Excessdistortion of the assembled product mayresult in
its failure.
Limited Warranty:
1. T&B warrants that its products will be free from defects in materials or workmanship for a period of two (2) years, except for
tools which are warranted separately (see warranty accompanying those products). Fisher PierceRproducts and
ElastimoldRReclosers are warranted for three years; and Joslynt VBT and VBU capacitor switches are warranted for four
years or 40,000 operations whichever occurs first. Upon prompt notification of a warranted defect, T&B will, at its option,
repair or replace the defective product.
2. In no event shall T&B be liable for any consequential, indirect or special damages, nor will T&B be liable for transportation,
labor, or other charges arising out of the removal or reinstallation of its products. Liability for breach of warranty is limited
to the cost of repair or replacement of the warranted product only.
3. Misuse, misapplication or modification of T&B products immediately voids all warranties.

STEP 1
Remove protective caps from the plug or well product. The
elbow and bushingextension come packaged with a stud. Hand
tighten the studintoa 600amp interfaceon the plug or well if the
600amp mating interface is not equipped with a stud. Lubricate
both the elbow and its matingpart as indicated with the lubricant
supplied. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE. Other lubricants may be
harmful to the products. Be sure to keep surfaces of elbow and
mating parts clean.

STEP 2
Push the plug or well into the elbow or bushing extension and
engage the threads.

FOR INSULATING PLUG:
Use torque wrench and tighten exerting 50 to 60 foot--pounds of torque.
FOR CONNECTOR PLUG, TAP PLUG OR TAP WELL:
Use torque wrench with an ELASTIMOLDÒ600SW spanner wrench. Since the indicated torque reading is not the actual torque
applied in this case, the indicated torque should be from 40 to 48 foot--pounds.
FOR K651 AND 750 RUBBER CONNECTING PLUGS:
Refer to special instructions IS--0915.
STEP 4
If an insulating plug is used as a mating part, clean and
lubricate inner surface of the voltage detectioncap and place
on elbow. Push down hard until cap snaps into place. Follow
voltage test directions below.

VOLTAGE TEST
The ELASTIMOLDÒdeadbreak elbow connector is equipped with an integral capacitance test point that can be used to
establish whether or not the circuit is energized. When using the test point, complete the following steps:
1. Remove test point cap with a hotstick. When removing cap, PEEL OFF AT AN ANGLE rather than pulling directly in line
with the test point assembly.
2. WARNING: THE VOLTAGE TEST POINT IS A CAPACITANCE DEVICE, IT IS NOT DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE
CONDUCTOR. Do not use conventional voltage measuring equipment. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for the
meter that is used. Test with a suitable sensing device, made for use with separable connectors manufactured with
capacitive test points, to determine if cable is energized. Contamination, moisture, dirt, etc. around the test point or use
of the wrong measuring equipment can provide a false “no voltage” indication on an energized elbow. To prevent
serious or fatal injury treat the elbow as energized until the “no voltage” test point indication is confirmed by other means.
3. After voltage detection has been made, clean and lubricate the inside surface of the cap with silicone lubricant and
replace it on the test point.

CONTENIDO: Inserto o receptáculo, lubricante (NO REMPLAZAR), instrucciones de instalación.
El inserto y el receptáculo son accesorios de productos de distribución de energía diseñados para ser usados en sistemas de
600/900 amperios. Se pueden acoplar con una extensión acodada o de boquillade 600amperios. También se pueden usar en el
lado monofásico de circuitos trifásicos. Consulte las instrucciones de instalación de los productos de acople:

Garantía limitada:

1. T&B garantiza que sus productos estarán libres de defectos en materiales o mano de obra por un período de dos (2) años,
a excepción de las herramientas que están garantizadas por separado (vea la garantía que acompaña a dichos productos).
Los productos Fisher PierceÒy los reconectores ElastimoldÒtienen una garantía de tres años; y los interruptores de
condensador JoslyntÔ VBT y VBU están garantizados por un período de cuatro años o 40.000 operaciones, lo que ocurra
primero. Tras la notificación oportuna de un defecto cubierto por la garantía, T&B, a su elección, reparará o sustituirá el
producto defectuoso.

Inserto de conexión
PASO 1
Retire las tapas protectoras del inserto macho
o hembra que se suministra como producto.
El codo o boquilla de extensión vienen embalados
con un perno. Ajuste el perno del inserto o
receptáculo manualmente dentro de la interfaz de
600 amperios, si la interfaz de acople de 600 amperios
no está equipada con un perno. Lubrique el codo y
su pieza de acople como se indica en las
instrucciones del lubricante provisto.
NO LO REMPLACE.Otros lubricantes podrían ser
perjudiciales para los productos. Asegúrese
de mantener limpias las superficies del codo y
las piezas de acople.

PARA EL INSERTO AISLANTE:
Use el torquímetro y ajuste ejerciendo una torsión de 50 a 60 libras--pie.
PARA EL INSERTO DEL CONECTOR, EL INSERTO TAPÓN O EL INSERTO HEMBRA:
Use el torquímetro con una llave estriada ELASTIMOLDÒ600SW. Como la lectura de torsión indicada no es el torque real
aplicado en este caso, la torsión indicada debe ser de 40 a 48 libras--pie
PARA LOS INSERTOS DE HULE TIPO K651 y 750:
Referirse al instructivo especial: IS--0915.
PASO 4
Si se usa un inserto aislante como pieza de acople, limpie y
lubrique la superficie interna de la tapa del sensor de tensión
y coloque un codo. Presione con fuerza, hasta que la tapa se
trabe en su lugar. Siga las siguientes instrucciones para
prueba de tensión.

PRUEBA DE TENSIÓN
El conector acodado ELASTIMOLDÒpara interruptores está equipadocon un punto de prueba de capacitancia integrado, que
se puede usar para establecer si el circuito está energizado o no. Cuando use el punto de prueba, siga los siguientes pasos:
1. Retire la tapa del punto de prueba con una varilla de descarga. Cuando retire la tapa, DESPRÉNDALA EN ÁNGULO en
lugar de jalarla directamente alineada con el conjunto del punto de prueba.
2. ADVERTENCIA: EL PUNTO DE PRUEBA DE TENSIÓN ES UN DISPOSITIVO CAPACITIVO; NO ESTÁ CONECTADO
DIRECTAMENTE AL CONDUCTOR. No utilice instrumentos de medición de tensión convencionales. Siga las
instrucciones del fabricante para el medidor que debe usarse. Determine, con un dispositivo de detección apropiado,
diseñado para el uso con conectores separables y fabricados con puntos de prueba capacitiva, si el cable está
energizado. Tantola contaminación, la humedad, la suciedad, etc. alrededor del punto de prueba como el uso del equipo
de medición inadecuado pueden proporcionar una indicación falsa de ”ausencia de tensión” en un codo energizado.Para
prevenir lesiones graves o fatales, considere que el codo está energizadohasta que laindicaciónde ”ausencia de tensión”
en el punto de prueba sea confirmada por otro medio.
3. Después de realizar la detección de tensión, limpie y lubrique la superficie interior de la tapa con lubricante siliconada y
remplácela en el punto de prueba.
