ALUMINUM DUAL RATED CONNECTORS
Listed for Aluminum and Copper Conductors
Aluminum Dual Rated Connectors are intended for use with aluminum, copper-clad aluminum and copper conductors [in accordance with the recommendations of National Electric Code (NEC) for insulated conductors rated 90ºC or less].
For stranded conductors. These connectors are intended for use with the following conductor strand congurations:
Aluminum - Class B concentric, compressed and unidirectional lay compact.
Copper - Class B concentric and compressed, Class C concentric
Copper-Clad Aluminum - Class B concentric
Recommended Procedures for installing Aluminum Dual Rated Connectors with Aluminum or Copper Conductor
CAUTION
De-energize before installing connectors.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Check the conductor size marked on the connector to make sure it is the correct connector for the conductor size.
2) Carefully strip the conductor insulation, avoiding any damage to the conductor strands. The length of the conductor barrel should be used to measure strip length (see Figure 1).
3) Wire brush the conductor, and when using aluminum conductor, apply Blackburn Weaver Type CP oxide inhibiting compound, and then fully insert the conductor into connector. Wipe off any excess oxide inhibitor (see Figure 2 & 3).
4) Each connector has one tightening torque range regardless of the conductor size it accommodates. Once the proper connector has been selected, check the maximum conductor size it will accommodate and apply the recommended tightening torque to the setscrew in accordance with TABLE 1 (see Figure 4).
5) Prior to mounting the connector, apply Blackburn Contax
®
Type CT or Weaver Type CP oxide inhibiting
compound to the at contact surface of the connector.
6) Mounting hardware should be torqued to the values shown in TABLE 2 (see Figure 4). Although the connectors will perform satisfactorily without washers, good installation practice would recommend that at and Belleville washers be used in conjunction with the mounting hardware.
