Device functions
Connect the power supply unit to the 9 V input on the device, and then insert the power plug
into the socket-outlet. To switch the device on and off, use the [ON/OFF] switch. Before starting
to play the pads, turn the [PHONE VOL] and the [MASTER VOL] volume to minimum levels and
gradually increase the volume while striking a pad.
You can assign 914 different sounds to the DP-2000’s eight pads (see Ä Chapter 8.1 ‘Sound list’
on page 41). In normal mode, the velocity sensitivity enables you to control the volume merely
by the force of your touch, i.e., the harder you hit the pad, the louder the sound that is pro‐
duced. In layer mode (see
Ä
‘Layer mode’ on page 19), the pads can be programmed in such a
way that different sounds are produced by one pad depending on the force of your touch.
When you strike a pad, the related LED on the device lights up, and the pad played is simulta‐
neously highlighted on the device display.
You can strike the pads either with your hands or with drum sticks. The scope of delivery
includes two sticks, which are stored in two receptacles on the side of the device. The sticks are
held by a spring mechanism in the receptacles. To remove the sticks, press on their heads.
When sliding the sticks into the receptacles, make sure that both of them latch properly.

You can connect external drum pads to the device via the connections on the rear of the
DP-2000. As soon as a kick, snare, ride or hi-hat pad or a hi-hat pedal is connected to one of the
sockets, a corresponding marker appears below the icon on the display. When you strike an
external pad, the related icon on the display is pulsing.
The multi pad features 80 on-board sound kits which are controlled by the eight pads of the
device, as well as five on-board drum kits which are controlled by external triggers (see
Ä
Chapter 8.3 ‘Kit list’ on page 67).
To activate the kit selection for the device pads, press the [KIT] button briefly. The kit number
and the kit name appear on the display. Use the [+ | –] rotary knob to select the desired kit.
To activate the kit selection for the external pads, press and hold down the [KIT] button for two
seconds. The kit number and the kit name appear on the display. Use the [+ | –] rotary knob to
select the desired kit.
Alternatively, you can use a foot switch (not included in delivery) to select the different kits.
The “CHAIN” function allows you to pre-program ten sound kits, between which you can
switch quickly by means of the rotary knob.

The external trigger pads can be adjusted in the same way. Open the SETUP, KIT EDIT,

The DP-2000 features 20 on-board loops, which can be opened in “GROOVE BOX” mode (see
Ä
Chapter 8.4 ‘Groove box and accompaniment tracks’ on page 74).
Press the [G.BOX] button to activate this mode. Next to its name, the number of the loop that
was last played starts flashing on the display. Use the [+ | –] rotary knob to select the desired
loop. To replay or stop the loop press the button. To replay or stop single tracks of the
loop, strike the corresponding pad. In this way you can mix in the individual tracks one after
the other, e.g. as an intro, or mute them in the outro, or create compositions of your own.
The device’s eight pads are divided into three groups in this mode:
n The four upper pads are used to vary and mute/unmute the individual tracks of the loop (A
to D).
n The two lower left pads are used to mix in additional individual sounds from the loop’s
sound kit.
n The two lower right pads are used to mix in additional effects from the loop’s sound kit in
random order.

By connecting external triggers to the device, you can mix further percussion sounds into the
loop.
During loop playback you can modify the loop variation (A to D) for all four tracks together by
means of the [+ | –] rotary knob . Alternatively you can modify the variation of a single track by
softly striking the related pad, or mute the track by hardly hitting the pad. The display shows
the variations A, B, C and D for all tracks. The icons of the pads which are played are high‐
lighted by a dropshadow.
To switch to another loop, you must terminate the current loop first.
To change the playback speed of the loop, press and hold down the [CLICK] button for two
seconds. As soon as ‘TEMPO’ flashes on the display, you can adjust the speed within a range of
40 to 240 beats per minute using the [+ | –] rotary knob.
The metronome function is available in KIT mode only. Press the [CLICK] button to activate or
deactivate the metronome. To set the tempo, volume and time signature of the metronome,
press and hold down the [CLICK] button for two seconds. Use the [+ | –] rotary knob to select
