BMR stands for Bas al Metabolic Rate and t akes into account your ag e, height, weight and g ender. Your BMR is an estimate for the amount of energy (measured in calories) that your body burn s to maintain normal bod ily functions
- e.g. breathing and maintai ning body temperature. Along with your weight and your body fat measurements, the BMR reading gives you one m ore tool to monitor your health an d fitness.
Why should I mea sure my BMR/Calories?

Body Fat Percentag e – What Does It Mea n?
Simply speaking, you r body is made up of lean mass and fat m ass. Lean mass consists of musc le, bones, organs, etc. Fa t mass is body fat . While everyone needs a certai n amount of fat to as sist the body in s toring energy, providing heat insulation and ot her functions, mos t people will find th ey are at their most fit when t hey increase their lean mass and decrease t heir fat mass.
While standard sc ales are useful in prov iding a measurement of ove rall weight, they do not calculate the percentag e of fat within the body. However, this Thinner
®
Body Analysis M onitor allows the user to check both of the se
important measu rements.
Body Fat Percentag e – How is it Measur ed?
The Thinner® Body Analysis M onitor uses a techniqu e called Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA). A harmless amo unt of a bioelectric current is sent from the footpads through the body. This c urrent travels at dif ferent speeds through lean and fat body masses. The scale’s microprocessor analyzes the degree of impedanc e, or transmission sp eed.
Taking into consideration t he user’s height, age, ge nder and weight, the Thinner
®
Body Analysis M onitor calculates the c omposition of the bod y. The percentage of t he body that is com posed of fat is dis played on the monitor – “body fat percentage.”
General health st andards indicate that one should consume ap proximately 64 oz. of water per day to maintain a healthy level of hydration. Accord ing to the World Health Org anization (WHO, 2001), the percentage of body w ater should lie within th e following ranges:
Women: 50-55% Men: 60-65% Children: 65 -75%
Maintaining these leve ls will help improve your overall health and gene ral feeling of well-being. If your hydration levels are less than the rec ommended levels in the char t above, you should incr ease your water intake ac cordingly.
Body Water/Hydration L evel – how is it measured?
The hydration level i s measured by using Bioel ectric Impedance A nalysis (BIA). The same analysis that is used to calc ulate your body fat is used to calculate your hydration level. T he Thinner Body Water mic roprocessor again mea sures impedance or tran smission speed throug h water. Taking into consideration a user’s age and gend er, a calculation is made that determines the p ercentage of w ate r.
Please Note: It is not reco mmended to take the hyd ration measurements i n certain situation s, such as following exerc ise, after drinking a glass of water, or directly prior to, during, or short ly after menstrua l cycles. Hydration may not be at its normal level during these ti mes. If you have any que stions or concerns about your readings, contact your healt hcare provider.
Bone is a living, gro wing tissue. During you th, your body makes ne w bone tissue faster t han it breaks down ol der bone. In young adult hood, bone mass is at its peak; af ter that, bone loss starts to out pace bone growth, an d bone mass decreases. But it ’s a long and a very slow process that ca n be slowed down even more through ca lcium-rich diets an d weight-bearing exercise.
Who should moni tor bone mass?
Most people have no need to monitor bone ma ss, but certain groups – postmenopausal wo men, men and women wi th certain disease s, and anyone who takes medicat ions that affect bone tissue might wa nt to watch for any decrease in bone m ass.
How to monitor bo ne mass at home
Program your Thinner
®
Body Analysis M onitor and watch as bui lt-in BIA technology compute s lean body mass an d measures bone mass every time you weigh yourself.
Typical ranges for bone mass:
Men: 6.5-8.5% Women: 5-7% The bone mass read ing is to be used as a guide only. Watch for trend s over time and contact your healthcare provid er for a more detailed explanation of the readings, and wi th any questions or concerns.
BMI stands for Bod y Mass Index, a s tatistical term de rived from height and weight. It is c losely linked to body f at and health outcomes . Over 50 organizations, in cluding the US Government and the World Health Organization, have adopte d BMI guidelines. BMI is inversely related to fitness, meaning t hat the higher your BMI, the less likely you are to be fit. Every time your bo dy analysis monitor rea ds your weight and ca lculates your body fat, it als o calculates your BMI. A long with your weight a nd your body fat measurements, the BMI reading gives you yet one more tool to monitor y our health and fitnes s.

scale is a precise measuring instrument that is most accurate when weighing a stationary object. To ensure the most accurate readings, always try to stand on the same area of the scale platform and DO NOT MOVE. Should the weight on the scale exceed the scale’s capacity, you may see an error message ”ERR”.
Electronic sensors are sensitive. Be careful not to drop or jar the scale. Place it
gently onto oor surface, and store where it will be protected from impact. The
scale is an electronic instrument and should never be submerged in water.
Clean with damp cloth and/or glass cleaner.
Battery Replacement:
If scale battery needs to be replaced, lift the battery cover on the bottom of the scale and replace the old battery with a new CR2032 battery. Dispose of the old battery properly. Do not attempt to open the scale or to remove
