Model D4101 Field Calibration Procedure
1. Turn instrument off and remove it from case.
2. Allow the instrument to stabilize to the ambient temperature.
3. Located on the large printed circuit board are three adjustment trim pots labeled
Fo, Co and REF. Located on the small printed circuit board is one adjustment trim
pot labeled ZERO.
4. Install a new battery.
5. Plug thermocouple probes into jacks #1 and #2 (labeled TO).
6. Turn instrument on for a few minuets before calibrating by placing the OFF Co –
Fo to Fo position.
7. Prepare two reference temperatures consisting of ice water and boiling water.
Important: The ice water should consist of well stirred crushed ice and a small
amount of water. frequent stirring is necessary to maintain 32°f (O°C).
Proceed in the following order for proper calibration.
1. Attach the measuring ends of probes 1 and 2 together so they both measure the
same temperature (ambient is adequate).
2. Push the probe select button label TO.
3. Verify that the Off-Co-of switch is in the Fo position.
4. Adjust the ZERO adjust trim pot (small circuit board) until the display reads
(000).
Separate probes 1 and 2 and place measuring ends of probe 1 into the ice water and probe
2 in the boiling water. Important stir crushed ice and water frequently.
5. Place the Off Co-Fo to Co position.
6. Select probe #1 by pressing the appropriate push button.
7. Adjust the trim pot labeled C
8. Select probe #2 by pressing the appropriate push button.
9. Adjust the trim pot labeled REF (large circuit board) until the display reads (100) or
the boiling temperature of water in Celsius for your altitude.
10. Place the Off- Co-of to of position.
11. Select probe #1 by pressing the appropriate push button.
12. Adjust the trim pot labeled of (large circuit board) until the display reads (032).
13. Select probe #2 by pressing the appropriate push button.
14. Readjust the trim pot labeled REF (large circuit board) until the display reads (212) or
the boiling temperature of water in Fahrenheit for your altitude.

Calibration is complete when probe #1 reads 32°f and 0°C and probe #2 reads boiling
temperature of water in Fahrenheit and Celsius. If readings are not correct repeat steps 5 -
14. Remove probes 1 and 2 from ice water and boiling water. Attach the ends together
and allow the probes to stabilize to ambient temperature. Push the probe select button
label TD and the reading should be (000) for Fahrenheit and Celsius. Repeat steps 1 -14
if reading is not (000).
