DISASSEMBLY
STEP #l Gauge Glass—remove both seal caps and springs with a 11/16" Hex wrench. Be careful not to lose the inner and outer spring and washer from each end. Push the gauge glass out of either end of the CHARG-CHECK.
STEP #2 – ONLY DONE IF THE CHARG-CHECK LEAKS AROUND LEAKS AROUND THE CYLINDER AND CASTING. With the bottom casting in a vise, use a 6 point 3/8" wrench and remove the four tie-bolts that hold the cylinder together. With a sharp object, remove the old "o" rings and discard them.
ASSEMBLY
If you had to replace the square cut "o" ring that seals the cylinder to the top and bottom casting follow Step #1. If you are only replacing the seal cap "o" ring follow Step #2.
STEP #1 After all parts are relatively clean, dampen all "o" rings with refrigeration oil. Insert the square cut "o" ring into the grooves of the casting being careful to keep the "o" ring from twisting in the grooves. After both castings are ready, place the bottom casting on a hard surface. Sandwich the cylinder between the top and bottom casting. Put the tie bolts thru the top casting and tighten them only finger tight into the bottom casting. After all the bolts are hand tight, use the 3/8" six point wrench and tighten the opposite corners as you would the lug nuts on a car.
STEP #2 To do this step you should lay the charging cylinder flat. Step #2 covers installing the gauge glass.
Bend the protective tube so that it will fit between the two round bushings attached to the top and bottom castings. Push the gauge glass thru the holes provided in the casting and center the red tape so that it is located closest to the cylinder scale. When the gauge glass has been properly positioned-, hold one end with a finger to keep it from turning and push the "o" ring around the glass. Place the steel washer (beveled side down) over the "o" ring. Take the inner spring and insert it inside the larger outer spring. Replace the "o" ring on the seal cap and place the springs in the seal cap with the inner spring towards the bottom. Add four or five drops of refrigeration oil to the seal cap. Holding one end of the gauge glass with a finger, carefully screw the seal cap down. Tighten with a 11/16" Hex wrench. Repeat on the other end.
