Troubleshooting
If the printer is locked up, with the error light on, check the application controller first, then the print controller.
If the carriage cable has been thrown off the carriage motor pulley, check the cable for wear. If it is worn, replace it. If it is not worn, replace the carriage motor. (The carriage motor is the most common cause of this failure.)
Error 11, Carriage jam - If no carriage motion on power-up, check fuses located at the left rear area of the printer in the power supply section. If fuses are good, replace the print controller. If carriage moves:
1. Clean carriage shaft; DO NOT OIL.
2. Replace carriage motor
3. Print controller.
4. Application controller. Communication Problems - These printers frequently lose configuration and defaults
are loaded automatically. If the printer is using parallel I/F the printer will default to serial. Check configuration first. If this is not the problem, replace the application controller.
Smudged print may be caused by an improperly adjusted ribbon guide on the nose of the print head. (See "Adjustments")
Adjustments
Ribbon Nose Guide - Loosen the two screws securing the ribbon guide. Place a flat plastic card between the print head and platen, making sure it is below the top of the ribbon guide. Use the gap adjusting arm to close the gap down enough to hold the card in place. Push the ribbon guide firmly against the card and tighten the screws.
Cover Removal
Open the front access door. Remove the three screws located along the front edge of the printer. Remove the two screws located at the back of the printer Remove the cover.
