Danger of injury/damage!
Incorrect location may result in damage.
• Never use the unit unmounted in vehicles, in unstable locations, on wobbly stands or furniture, on underdimensioned brackets etc. The speakers could tip or fall down and cause injury to persons or be damaged.
• Place the speakers in such a way that they cannot be knocked over unseen and make sure that the cables do not pose a trip hazard.
• Place the speakers on the ground only.
• Only use the supplied base plate.
• Carefully follow the installation instructions.
• Do not place the unit near sources of heat (e.g. heaters, ovens, other heat generating equipment such as amplifi ers etc.).

Unpacking and setup
Open the box carefully, take out the half shell EPE packaging foam and carefully lift the speaker out of the box without touching the diaphragms.
Connector cables
Due to differing customer requirements, the
Ultima 40 Mk 2 speakers are shipped without connector cables. You can purchase appropriate cables in our web shop in the “Accessories” area.
Check to be sure
• Check that all items have been delivered and that noth-
ing is damaged.
• If the delivery exhibits transport damages, do not use
the speakers; instead (see page 3).

Location tips
• Select a stable, level base.
• Make sure that the environment is clean and free from
dust.
• Avoid placing the unit close to sources of heat or in
direct sunlight.
• Arrange the connector cables so that they do not pose
a trip hazard.
• Do not place any heavy objects on the cables or the
speakers.
The following data concern an “ideal listening room”, in which the listener sits in a central position at a suffi cient distance in front of the speakers (see the adjacent graphic) and no objects (tables or the like) are located in between. Unfortunately, the room, furnishings or other circumstances do not always allow for optimum arrangement.
Modern amplifi ers offer a variety of possibilities for electronically compensating losses associated with the arrangement. The following general rule applies: You can always experiment on what works best in your listening room in terms of sound and appearance based on our recommendations. Let your ears (and eyes) be the judge!
The speakers should be situated to the left and right of the listener and if possible, form an equilateral triangle with the listener – the so-called stereo triangle (distance from the listener = distance between the speakers). The speakers should project sound directly into the room or be arranged slightly towards the listener.
Removing the cover grill
Attention
You can remove the cover grill from the speakers by carefully reaching behind the protective grid and slowly pulling it off to the front. When the cover grills are removed, high frequency output becomes clearer in particular. When reattaching the grids, ensure that the installation pins slide into the corresponding holes on the speaker.
Risk of damage!
Make sure that you do not touch the highly sensitive diaphragms.

Connecting
Connection variations
A connector terminal with four
terminal clips is located on the back
side of the speakers. Here you can
connect the speaker cables directly
or with pin plugs. We only describe
the direct connection in these instruc-
tions.
The terminals are each marked in
red (+) and black (-).
In addition to a standard connection,
where every speaker column is connected to the amplifi er
with a cable, you can also choose the variants “Bi-Wir-
ing” or “Bi-Amping”.
Standard connection
With this connection, the Ultima 40 Mk 2 speakers are
connected like conventional speakers with one double-
strand speaker cable each. The contact bridges between
the connector terminators may not be removed in the
process. You can connect the cables accordingly to the
top or bottom terminals.
Bi-Wiring
With Bi-Wiring, the speaker is connected to the fi nal
amplifi er using two separate speaker cables for the bass
sound and mid/treble sound branch. This decoupling of
the speaker systems may improve the sound quality.
Bi-Amping
In case of Bi-Amping, the bass sound and mid/treble
sound branch are each powered by an own power ampli-
fi er of the amplifi er. You connect a double-strand speaker
cable to each power amplifi er. Afterwards, you connect
the speaker cable to the upper and lower connector ter-
minators of the speakers respectively. Advantage: More
power and improved sound quality.
You only have to remove the
contact bridges for Bi-Wiring or
Bi-Amping operation:
To do so, turn the connector
terminals counterclockwise until
loose and then pull the contact
bridges out.
The top terminals lead to the high
range and midrange speakers,
the bottom terminals lead to the
low range speakers.
Connecting the cables
Danger
1. Turn off your amplifi er.
2. Lay the speaker cables from your amplifi er to each

Spikes (option)
Optimise the sound characteristics of your fl oor speakers by an acoustic coupling. In our web shop we offer appropriate spikes for your speakers which are screwed into the threaded holes at the bottom side of the speaker base plate and placed on the provided washers. Thus, the oscillation energy of the speakers is ideally transferred to the hard-walled fl oor. The result with respect to sound quality is a more precise bass range and a more detailed resolution in the mid and treble range. The washers preserve the parquet fl oor or the carpet. Moreover, the spikes compensate for unevenness of the fl oor.
Care and cleaning
[[
The veneered surfaces of our speakers have a protective surface coat, which eliminates the need for wood polish.
• You can best remove dust or small amounts of dirt with
a dry, smooth leather cloth.
• Rub off stubborn dirt with a damp cloth. Make sure
that no liquids penetrate the speakers.
• Then immediately wipe the surfaces dry using a soft
cloth and without applying pressure.
Attention
• If possible only use lukewarm, plain water without any

Protecting the environment
Disposal of the unit
Used units must not be disposed of with household waste!
If the unit is no longer operational, every consumer is required by law to dispose of used devices separate from household waste,
e. g. at a collection point run by the communal authority
borough. In this way, used devices can be recycled and waste materials disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. For this reason, electrical equipment is labelled with the displayed symbol.
