Only use the unit as described in these instructions. Any
other use will be deemed as not in accordance with the
instructions and may lead to damage to property or even
persons. The manufacturer accepts no liability for damage caused by use not in accordance with the instructions.
The unit is intended for private use.
Before operating the unit for the first time please
read the safety notes and operating instructions
carefully. This is the only way to use all functions
safely and reliably.
Keep the operating instructions safe and pass them on to
anyone who may own the unit after you.

Danger
Risk of electric shock!
Faulty installation of electrical equipment or
mains
voltage which is too high can cause
electric shocks.
• The unit is only suitable for mains voltage of
220 V–240 V ~/50 Hz.
• Pull the mains plug immediately and do not operate
the unit if its case or mains cable are defective or show
any visible signs of damage.
• If the unit emits smoke or smells of burning or other
unusual odours, disconnect it immediately from the
power supply and do not operate it.
• The standby button does not disconnect the unit from
the power supply. Plug the unit into an easily accessible socket so that it can be quickly disconnected in
case of a fault.
• Never open the case of the unit.
Repairs to the unit must be carried out by an authorised
specialist workshop. All parts used for repairs must
correspond to the data of the original unit parts. This
unit contains electrical and mechanical parts which are
essential to ensure safe operation of the unit.
• Do not insert any object through the ventilation slots in
the case.
• Never use the unit outdoors.
• Do not operate the unit in moist areas and protect it
from drops of water or splash water.
Also take care not to stand vases or other containers
of liquid on or near the unit in order to avoid liquid
getting into the case. If water or other
foreign bodies
should enter the case, disconnect it immediately from the
mains power supply and remove any batteries. Send the
unit to our service address.
• Never touch the plug with wet hands.
• Check the unit regularly for damage.
Danger
Danger for children!
Children can become trapped in the packing
film when playing and suffocate.
• Do not allow children to play with the unit or the packing film. Danger of suffocation.
• Ensure that children do not remove small parts from
the unit (e. g. remote control battery, buttons, or plug
adapters). They could swallow the parts and choke.
If a battery is swallowed, take the child to a doctor
immediately.
• Never allow children to operate electrical devices
unsupervised.

Danger to hearing!
Loud noise may lead to hearing loss.
In particular, switching on an active subwoofer
which is set to full volume can result in a sudden very
high burst of sound. The sound pressure may cause
physical injury and can also have psychological effects.
Children and pets are especially at risk.
• Set your signal source unit volume control to a low
setting.
• When the volume is set high, always keep a certain
distance from the unit and never place your ear directly
on the speaker.
• To avoid damage to health, avoid extended listening at
high volume.

Danger of chemical burns!
Leaking battery acid may lead to chemical
burns.
• Do not allow battery acid to come into contact with
skin, eyes or mucus membranes. In case of contact
with acid rinse the affected location immediately with
plenty of plain water and if necessary see a doctor.

Danger of explosion!
Lithium batteries can explode if handled im-
properly.
• Never attempt to recharge lithium batteries.
• Only use batteries of the same or equivalent type.
• Do not heat or short circuit batteries or rechargeable
batteries and do not dispose them of by burning.
Do not leave batteries or rechargeable batteries in
direct sunlight.

Danger of injury/damage!
Incorrect location may result in damage.
• Never use the unit unmounted in vehicles, in instable
locations, on wobbly stands or furniture, with attachment fixtures that are too small etc. The unit could
topple over or fall, injuring persons or causing damage
to the unit itself.
• Set the unit up in such a way that it cannot be knocked
over accidentally, and ensure that no-one can trip over
the cables.
• Do not place the unit near sources of heat (e. g. heaters, ovens, other heat generating equipment such as
amplifiers etc.)
Attention
Fire hazard!
Improper use may lead to damage or fire.
• Never place sources of open flames such as burning
candles on the unit.
• Ensure sufficient ventilation.
• Do not place the unit in direct sunlight.
• Do not cover the ventilation slots with curtains, cloths,
newspapers or similar. Heat build-up inside the unit
can shorten the lifetime of the unit.
Attention
Danger of damage to the unit!
Power overload due to lightning strike may
damage or destroy the unit.
• If the unit is to be left unsupervised for a long period
(e. g. during a holiday), or if a thunderstorm is forecast, disconnect it from the mains power supply.
• Leaked batteries may damage the remote control.
• In case of prolonged absence remove the batteries
from the remote control.

Setup location
• Choose a stable, even surface.
• Ensure that the environment is dry and free of dust.
• Avoid placing the unit close to sources of heat or in
direct sunlight.
• Route connecting cables in such a way that no-one can
trip over them.
• Do not place any heavy objects on top of the cables
or units.
Connecting loudspeakers
Use the cables supplied or equivalent, two-core speaker
cable with a cross-section of at least 0.5 mm2 to connect
the loudspeakers. You can order suitable cables and banana plugs as a set in our online shop (www.teufelaudio.
com) in the area "Accessories".
On the back of the CD receiver, you will find the connector terminals 22 "SPEAKER OUT" for the right ("Right")
and left ("Left") loudspeakers.
The terminals are marked in red (+) and black (-) respectively.
Ensure that the correct poles are connected!
Connect the like-coloured terminals with each
other. Otherwise, the sound quality will suffer. The
cores of the speaker cable are marked with different
colours or shapes.
Split the loudspeaker cable on
both ends over a length of about
30 mm and remove approx. 10
mm of the insulation sheathing
in each case. Twist the cable to
ensure that no wires protrude.
The correct procedure for connecting the cables to the
loudspeakers should be described in the loudspeaker
instruction manual.
If you are using banana plugs, screw the cable to the
plug (see instructions for the banana plug) and push the
plug into the socket of the connector terminal 22 on the
CD receiver.
If you don’t use any banana plugs, turn the connector
terminal 6 counter clockwise. Insert the stripped cable
end into the hole that is now visible. Turn the terminal
clockwise. This will clamp the cable in place.
Subwoofer
You can connect an active subwoofer to RCA jack 21
"Out • Sub". Only the low frequency audio signals are
output at this jack.
Audio output
The audio signal is output at RCA jacks 20 "Out • Rec"
without sound control. You can connect a recording
device (e.g. cassette recorder) here.
Audio inputs
You can connect almost any audio source, such as a computer, MP3 player (with/without dock), game console, TV
etc. to the RCA jacks 19 "IN Tape/AUX 1/DVD" on the
back of the unit, as long as the source unit has an output
with a line level. Such outputs are either stereo RCA jacks
or 3.5 mm jack plugs. Using a corresponding connecting
cable, connect these units to jacks 21 "IN Tape/AUX 1/
DVD". Suitable cables are available in our online shop
(www.teufelaudio.com) in the area "Accessories".
On the front of the unit, there are two further audio inputs: 3 "AUX 2" with RCA jacks and 4 "Line In" as a 3.5
mm jack plug. These can be used for quick and easy connection of an audio source (e.g. MP3 player or mobile
phone) without having to turn the CD receiver around.

Antennas
Danger
Danger of lightning striking!
If you use outside or roof antennae, it is vital
that you ensure the antenna unit is protected
adequately against lightning.
FM/VHF antenna
The antenna for receiving FM/VHF stations is connected
to jack 17 "FM". This antenna can be a roof/outdoor antenna or a cable TV connection. To connect the antenna,
you will need a coaxial cable.
If there is no antenna connection provided at the setup location, you can
use the wire antenna
d supplied with
the unit. Unwind the wire antenna,
push the plug onto the pin in jack
17 "FM" and move the wire antenna
around to find the position where
reception is best. Then fix the antenna
in this position with adhesive tape.
To operate the remote control, you need two 1.5 volt
batteries of type Micro or AAA (included in the scope of
delivery).
Inserting batteries
• Slide the lid of the battery
compartment on the back of
the remote control open by
pushing it in the direction of
the arrow, and remove the lid.
• Where applicable, remove the
old batteries (please follow the
instructions on page 12).
• Insert the batteries in the battery compartment as shown in
the figure.
• Replace the lid on the compartment and slide it shut.
AM/MW antenna
Antenna
c supplied with the unit is for the reception of
medium wave stations (AM/MW). You can set up this
antenna free-standing or screw it to a cupboard or wall
shelving.
Connect the connecting cable of the antenna to jacks 18
"AM" on the back of the CD receiver. Press the lever of
each connector terminal and insert the end of the cable
into the adjacent opening. When you release the lever,
the cable is clamped in position.
Mains connection
• Check that the mains switch 24 "Power" on the back of
the unit is turned off (position "OFF").
• Plug mains cable 23 into a mains socket.
Remote control
Mode of operation
The remote control transmits the control signals by means
of infrared light. To allow this, you need to point the
remote control towards the unit. Ensure that the infrared
light beam is not obstructed by objects between the
remote control and the unit.
Fluorescent lamps and energy-saving lamps installed in
the vicinity can impair the function of the remote control
or even prevent it functioning.

Basic functions
Switching on and off
• The mains switch 24 "Power" on the back of the unit is
used to switch the CD receiver on and off.
When it is switched on, the unit is in standby mode
and the "Power" button 16 lights up red. The volume is
set to medium level (-50 db).
• You can switch your CD receiver to operating or
standby mode using button 16 "Power" or 48 "
".
• If there's no audio signal for longer time, the unit
switches to standby mode.
Selecting a source
When the unit is switched on, the last selected audio
source is activated.
• You can use button 11 "Source" or 45 "Source ▲"
and 31 "Source ▼" to switch sources in the following
sequence: FM (radio VHF), AM (radio MW), Aux 1,
Tape, DVD, Line In, Aux 2, CD, USB.
The source selected is displayed on the display panel 5.
Adjusting the volume
• To turn the volume up: Turn dial 1 "Volume" clockwise
or press button 30 "Vol +".
• To turn the volume down: Turn dial 1 "Volume" anticlockwise or press button 44 "Vol –".
The selected volume is displayed on display panel 5
within a range of –94 db (quiet) to 0 db (loud).
Muting
• You can turn the sound off using button 26 "
".
The display panel 5 now reads "MUTE ON".
• To switch the sound back on: Press button 26 " "
again or alter the volume setting.
Setting the sound
1. Press button 46 "Tone".
The letters "BA" appear on the display panel 5, together with the preset value for the bass within a range
of –14 db to +14 db.
2. Change the bass level to suit your own taste using dial
1 "Volume" or buttons 44 "Vol –" and 30 "Vol +".
3. Press button 46 "Tone" .
The letters "TR" appear on the display panel 5, together with the preset value for the high tones within a
range of –14 db to +14 db.
4. Change the level to suit your own taste using dial 1
"Volume" or buttons 44 "Vol –" and 30 "Vol +".
5. If three seconds pass without buttons being pressed,
the unit switches back to standard mode.

Adjusting the balance
Balance means the balance of volume between the right
and left loudspeakers.
1. Press button 47 "Balance".
The letter "L" appears on the display panel 5, together
with the preset value for the left channel within a range
of –10 db to +10 db.
2. Change the volume level for the left channel to suit
your own taste, using dial 1 "Volume" or the buttons
44 "Vol –" and 30 "Vol +".
3. Press button 47 "Balance".
The letter "R" appears on the display panel 5, together
with the preset value for the right channel within a
range of –10 db to +10 db.
4. Change the volume level for the right channel to suit
your own taste, using dial 1 "Volume" or the buttons
44 "Vol –" and 30 "Vol +".
5. If three seconds pass without buttons being pressed,
the unit switches back to standard mode.
Radio mode
Select one of the two radio reception ranges as your
source (see previous page):
FM – to receive mono and stereo stations from 87.5 to
108 MHz, RDS mode possible
AM – to receive mono stations from 522 to 1,629 kHz
20 stations can be stored in each range (see below).
Selecting radio stations
Button 39 "Auto" is used to switch between manual and
automatic search mode. When you press the button,
the text "AUTO" or "MANUAL" appears briefly on the
display panel 5.
You can set the reception frequency using buttons 15 and
42 "Tuning +/–":
• Automatic: When the button is pressed, the unit
searches the waveband in the desired direction until it
finds a station with a sufficiently strong signal.
• Manual: Each time the button is pressed, the frequency
is increased or decreased by one step (FM: 0.05 MHz,
AM: 9 kHz).

Station memory
Your radio can store 20 stations for each of the two
frequency ranges. You can then quickly select one of the
stored stations by pressing a button.
Presetting stations manually
• Tune to the desired station as described above.
• Tap button 38 "MEM".
The display panel shows the flashing text "TUNED".
• Use buttons 15 and 42 "Tuning" to select the desired
storage location number or enter the number directly
using the numerical keys 27.
• Tap button 38 "MEM" again.
The station has now been stored. If three seconds pass
without a button being pressed, the unit switches back to
standard mode.
Saving stations automatically
Hold down the button 37 “APS“ for a few seconds to
activate the automatic station scan. The device will save
the first 20 stations within the reception range. The radio
will then switch to the station in memory spot 1.
Selecting a preset station
You can select a preset station directly using the numerical keys 27. Use button 28 "10+" to select the stations
stored under two-digit numbers.
Or call up the storage locations successively using the
buttons 12 "Station" or 33 "Station +/–".
Stereo/Mono
FM stations usually broadcast in stereo, and the letters
"ST" appear on the display panel.
Where the signal quality is poor, there may be some
disturbance. If this happens, switch to MONO by tapping
the button 35 "FM ST/M" - the letters "ST" disappear from
the display panel.
Radio Data System (RDS)
With the Radio Data System (RDS), the radio stations on
the FM/VHF band transmit information in addition to the
music. This information, for example the name of the station, is processed by the radio and shown on the display
panel.
By pressing the button 43 "Display," you can display
the following sequence of RDS information texts on the
display panel:
Station name – Programme Type – Clock Time – Radio

If the station to which you are tuned transmits RDS signals, the name of the station will appear on the display
panel after a short time.

Programme Type (PTY)
This displays the type of programme broadcast (see adjacent table). Unfortunately, however, not all radio stations
use this service.
Clock Time (CT)
The exact time is transmitted once a minute. This means
that the text on the display panel will read "WAITING
CT" until the receiver has received the signal.
Radio Text (RT)
With Radio Text, additional information on the program
is transmitted. Such information can be the title and artist
for a piece of music or short messages.
Searching for PTY
Your CD receiver can also search for stations broadcasting a particular RDS programme type.
• Press the button 36 "Search". The text "PTY SEARCH"
flashes on the display panel.
• You can now use buttons 42 "Tuning +/–" to select one
of the programme types shown opposite
• Press button 36 "Search" again.
If the station to which you are tuned is not broadcasting
the desired programme type, the scanning function is
activated. It stops automatically when it locates the first
station with adequate reception and broadcasting a
programme of the set type.
If the radio cannot locate such a station, it switches back
to the previous station setting and the message "NO
FOUND" appears briefly.

Suitable CDs
• Use only commercially available CDs bearing one of
the symbols shown opposite.
• The unit can also read CDs containing MP3 files.
• Normal CDs of 80 and 120 mm diameter can be
played.
• Self-burned CDs (CDR, CDRW) can normally be read,
though there may be problems if the burning speed is
too high or "bad" blanks are used. Trial and error is
the only way to find out which CDs can be read.
• CDs produced for commercial use cannot always be
read.
Handling CDs
Every CD has a durable plastic coating which protects it
against external influences. However, it is still necessary
to protect the CD against soiling and scratching at all
times.
CD players can compensate for minor damage to the CD.
Deep scratches or other damage may cause the CD to
"stick" or jump or cause other problems.
See the information on the CD case for correct handling
of CDs!
Inserting a CD
Attention
Danger of damage to the unit!
Never insert several CDs one on top of the other.
Never insert any other objects in the CD tray.
• Use button 11 "Source" or 45 "Source ▲" and 31
"Source ▼" to select the source "CD".
• Press button 6 "
" or 25 " ". The CD compartment
on the front of the unit opens.
• Insert the CD carefully into the recess in the CD tray
with the labelled side upwards.
• Press button 6 "
" or 25 " ". The CD compartment
closes and the CD is read. "LOADING" appears on
the display panel, and after a few seconds, the CD is
played automatically.
The Play functions for CD and USB are identical and are
described in the section "Play functions" on page 16.
Ejecting a CD
• Stop the Play function by pressing button 6 " " or
41 " ".
• Press button 6 "
" or 25 " ". The CD compartment
on the front of the unit opens.

Your new CD receiver can read USB sticks of types USB
1.0 and 2.0 and can play music files in MP3 format
stored on them.
USB stands for "Universal Serial Bus". All modern computers have a USB port for connecting a keyboard and
mouse. USB sticks were originally developed to replace
computer disks and provide an easy method of transporting data. These practical sticks are now also used in
digital cameras and music players.
Handling mobile storage media
USB sticks are sensitive electronic devices and must
be handled with proper care. When you are not using
your stick, you should always put on the cap or cover to
protect it.
Important
Never use a stick which has suffered mechani-
cal damage or which has fallen into liquid.
Never expose sticks to direct strong sunlight.
Careless handling can lead to data loss! Wherever
possible, make backup copies of your music on your
PC.
Inserting and playing from a USB stick
• Insert the USB stick into port 2 "USB". The plug on the
stick will only fit into the port in one position.
• Use button 11 "Source" or 45 "Source ▲" and 31
"Source ▼" to select source "USB".
• The CD receiver reads the card and begins to play the
files.
• If no playable files are found on the USB stick, "NO
USB" appears on the display panel.
The Play functions for CD and USB are identical and are
described in the section "Play functions" on page 16.
Removing a USB stick
Attention
Danger of damage!
Never remove the USB stick while the CD
receiver is set to source "USB"! First switch to
another source, e.g. radio reception, using button 11
"Source".

Basic functions
• To stop playback:
Push the button 7 or 32 “ ”.
• To continue playback:
Push the button 7 or 32 “ ” again.
• To play the next track:
Tip the button 8 or 40 “ ”.
• To play the previous track:
Tip the button9 or 40 “ ”.
• To play the track in fast forward or rewind:
Tip the button 34 “ ”/“ ” or
hold down the button 8 “ ”/9 “ ”.
The track will be played back with sound; you will see
the elapsed time of the track in the display field (only
if the display field has been set properly, see next
chapter).
To continue normal playback, push the button 7 or
32 “ ”.
• To stop playback:
Push 6 “ ” or 41 “ ”.
Display readouts
The CD receiver numbers all tracks on a CD or a USB
stick in consecutive order – even if they are stored in different folders.
If playback is stopped, the total number of saved tracks
appears on the display. The current track number and the
elapsed playback time are shown during playback.
Additional readouts for MP3 playback (ID3 tags)
When MP3 files are played back, different information
on the current track is available, providing it is saved as
metadata in addition to the music.
You can display this data by repeatedly pushing the button 43 “Display”. The following information will appear
on the display each time you push the button:
• Track number and elapsed playback time ➨ Name of
the song ➨ Name of the artist ➨ Name of the album
➨ Ticker: e.g. artist, album, track number, file type ➨
track number and elapsed playback time.
Repeat function
With the button 10 or 29 “Repeat” you switch the repeat
function; the selected function will appear in the display
field:
• REP OFF – Repeat function off, normal playback.
• REP I – Repeat the current track.
• REP ALL – Play all tracks and start again from the
beginning.
• REP DIR – Repeat all tracks in the current folder on a
MP3 CD or a USB stick.

Directly selecting track numbers
In addition to the possibility of browsing tracks with the
buttons 40 “ ” or “ ”, you can also select a track
directly with the number keys 27.
• Enter the desired number with the number keys “1...9”
for single-digit track numbers.
• In the event of two- and/or three-digit track numbers,
you must first select the tens or hundreds respectively
with the button 28 “10+”.
Example: To select the track number 53, you must push
the button 28 “10+” five times and the number key “3”
once.
Playback will begin automatically.

Care and cleaning
Clean your CD receiver regularly with a soft, slightly
moist microfibre cloth. The following points must be
observed:

Risk of electric shock!
In contact with live parts water can lead to
electric shock or short circuit.
• Ensure that no water gets into the unit.
• Disconnect the device from the mains power supply
before cleaning.
Attention
Danger of damage to the unit!
Using the wrong cleaning materials may damage the delicate surface of the enclosure.
• If possible use only plain water with no cleaning products. In case of stubborn marks a mild soap solution
may be used.
• In no circumstances should caustic cleaning products,
white spirit, thinners, petrol or similar be used for
cleaning.
Troubleshooting
The following instructions should help you to solve problems. If this doesn't work, please contact our hotline (see page 3).
Mind the warranty instructions.

Unit not working, the dis-

No power supply. Check that the mains plug is inserted cor-
rectly.
Use another device to check that the socket is
working.
The loudspeakers remain
silent.
Wrong source selected. Select the correct source (see page 10).
Volume is set to »0«. Increase the volume.
Headphones connected. Unplug the headphones. If headphones are
plugged in, the loudspeakers are switched
off.
Loudspeaker cable is loose. Check the loudspeaker connections.
Playback is noisy. Generally, the CD receiver is a very low-
noise system. Usually, the very high resolution of the loudspeaker system in the high
tone range will "unmask" the poor quality
of a signal source (e.g. of MP3 files) in the
high tone range.
Ensure that the source transmits a good signal
to the CD receiver.
Poor reception Transmitter too far away or very low-power Try to improve the reception by changing the
direction of the antenna.
Optimise the tuning with buttons 15 and 42
"TUNING +/–".
If necessary, switch to mono (press button 35
"FM ST/M").
"NO DISC" CD inserted upside down Insert the CD with the printed side facing
upwards.
How to clean your CDs
To clean your CDs, use only cleaning agents approved
for cleaning CDs.
If necessary, carefully wipe the CD
with a soft, lint-free cloth, working
from the centre to the edge. To do this,
hold the CD between index finger and
thumb of your other hand.
Touching the recording side of the CD
with your hand may cause problems
when playing the CD.

Batteries and rechargeable batteries
Batteries and rechargeable batteries must
not be disposed of with household waste!
Every consumer is required by law to bring all
batteries and rechargeable batteries, whether
they contain harmful substances*) or not, to a collection
point run by the communal authority or borough or run
commercially, so that they can be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
Please only hand in fully discharged batteries!

Disposing of the unit
Used units must not be disposed of with household waste
If the unit is no longer operational, every
consumer is required by law to dispose of
used devices separate from household waste,
e. g. at a collection point run by the communal authority borough. In this way, used devices can be recycled
and waste materials disposed of in an environmentally
friendly manner.
