CONNECTING AND USING THE STEAM GENERATOR
Filling the Iron with Water
The reservoir of water used for the water spray is contained within the iron. To fill the water spray reservoir:
Ensure the appliance is unplugged from the mains and that the iron soleplate is not hot.
Unclip the spray assembly from the front of the iron.
Remove the water reservoir from the iron and fill with water. Do NOT exceed the MAX mark on the side of the reservoir.
Replace the reservoir inside the iron. Replace the spray assembly. The arrows on the water reservoir and the spray assembly must line up.
Filling the Removable Water Tank
To fill the water tank:
Ensure the appliance is unplugged from the mains.
Detach the water tank from the base unit.
Fill the water tank with cool water through the filling inlet. Do NOT exceed the MAX marks on the sides of the tank.
Although the base unit is fitted with an anti-cal system, if the water is very hard it is advisable to fill the iron with distilled water, or a 50:50 mix of distilled water and tap water, in order to extend the lifetime of the anti-cal cartridge.
Note: If hard water us used, the steam generator should be cleaned more often (see MAINTENANCE and Cleaning).
Refit the water tank in the base unit.

Ironing
Ensure that the power is switched off at the wall.
Fill the base unit with water as described previously.
Place the base unit on a firm, flat surface.
Place the iron, either on the heat-proof iron rest on the base unit or on the ironing rest of the ironing board. If you stand the iron on the ironing board, it must be stood on its heel in an upright position.
On the iron, use the temperature control dial to select the appropriate temperature for the fabric.
Switch on the power at the wall socket. The indicator light on the iron will light up, the power and status light on the base unit will flash red and you will hear a beep.
The indicator light on the iron will turn off when the iron reaches the selected temperature.
Note: During use, the indicator light will turn on and off as the thermostat maintains the iron at the selected temperature.
The power and status light on the base unit will display a green light and stop flashing once the base unit is ready to generate steam.
The appliance is now ready for use.
Note: Some parts of the iron have been slightly greased and, as a result, might smoke slightly when the iron is switched on for the first time. This will cease after a short while.
Using Steam
If steam is required, press the steam control button on the base unit control panel until the appropriate level of steam for the fabric is selected.
The selected steam level is indicated by a blue light on the base unit control panel steam level indicator as follows:
Low
Medium
Maximum
If the button is pressed when the steam level is at the maximum setting, the steam level will be reset to zero.
Wait a few moments until the base unit has generated enough steam for the level you have selected.

Spraying Steam
Select the required steam level as described above. Press the steam trigger on the underside of the handle. Steam will then be sprayed from the soleplate of the iron.
Steam may be used when the iron is in a vertical position, to remove wrinkles/creases from hanging garments, curtains etc.
CAUTION:
1. Do not apply steam to any clothes or fabrics that are being worn by any person or pet. The steam temperature is very high and injury may result.
2. Maintain a distance of a few centimetres from delicate fabrics (synthetics, silk, velvet etc.), otherwise the fabric could be damaged.
Note: If sufficient steam has not yet been generated, you will hear a rattling noise caused by the action of a pump in the base unit.
Use of steam is only recommended for ironing at higher temperatures, as indicated on the temperature control dial on the iron.
The appliance is equipped with an auto shut off safety feature. If steam is not used for 15 minutes, the steam generator will switch off and enter 'sleep' mode. The power and status light on the base unit will flash red and green alternately. Press the steam control button to restart the appliance.
Spraying Water
Press the water spray button on the top of the iron to spray a thin jet of water on the fabric being ironed.

IRONING TEMPERATURES
Check the ironing instructions attached to the article to be ironed (they are usually on a label showing a symbol or an iron). Always follow these instructions. The indications on the iron’s temperature dial and the table below will help you.
If there are no ironing instructions, but you know the fabric, then use the table below. The table is only intended as a guide and is valid only for the actual materials and does not take into account of any finish which may have been applied to the fabric. Textiles to which a finish has been applied (glass, wrinkle relief, printed T-shirts etc.) should be ironed at somewhat lower temperatures.
If the fabric consists of mixed fibres, always select the lowest ironing temperature of the composition, e.g. a 60% polyester/40% cotton mix should be ironed at the temperature for polyester.
In all cases any ironing instructions on the garment override the guidance given in the table.
Garments may be damaged if ironed at too high a temperature.
Sort fabrics into groups according to temperature; wool with wool, cotton with cotton, etc. Start by ironing articles requiring low temperature settings and progress to higher ones.
Note: Do not iron garments that are dirty or stained, the irons heat may set the stain.
Pure wool fabric (100% wool) may be pressed with the iron set to a steam position and the wool surface protected by a dry cotton cloth.
Do not iron
Synthetics, Nylon, Acrylics, Polyester, Rayon
Wool, Silk
Cotton, Linen
MAINTENANCE
Unplug the iron from the wall socket and allow to cool down fully before pouring away any excess water.
Cleaning the Iron
To remove starch or other deposits from the soleplate, apply a small amount of mild cleaner to a damp cloth, forming a paste on the cloth. Gently rub the soleplate, then wipe with a damp cloth.
The body of the iron may now be cleaned with a barely damp cloth and then dried thoroughly. Do not wet the iron body, power cord or mains plug.
CAUTION: Never use scouring pads, abrasives or harsh cleaners on the iron body or the soleplate as this may scratch the surface.
Cleaning the Base Unit Water Tank
To clean the water tank:
Unplug the appliance from the wall socket.
Remove the water tank and fill with distilled water.
Hold the water tank with both hands and shake well.
Pour the water away:
Repeat this procedure three or four times.

Replacing the Anti-Cal Cartridge
The anti-cal system is designed to extend and maintain the performance of the iron. The system consists of a cartridge containing a compound through which water from the tank is passed before it reaches the steam generator chamber. This compound filters out the impurities in hard water before they can be deposited in the steam generator chamber, reducing steam output.
The anti-cal cartridge refill warning light on the control panel will light up when the anti-cal cartridge needs replacing.
To replace the cartridge:
Do NOT turn off the steam generator.
Remove the water tank by holding the underside of the tank and pulling away from the base unit:
Remove the anti-cal cartridge holder from the base unit. Remove and replace the old anti-cal cartridge with a new cartridge:
Wait 5 seconds. Replace the cartridge holder in the base unit. Make sure that the cartridge holder is replaced correctly.
Note: If the cartridge holder is removed or dislodged while the appliance is being used, the base unit will ‘beep’. Steam cannot be generated if a cartridge is not in place.
If a cartridge is replaced while the steam generator is switched off, the system will not register that a new cartridge has been inserted.
If a new cartridge is not available use distilled water, instead of tap water, and continue operating the appliance as before.
PLEASE SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
Self Cleaning
The anti-cal cartridge will not completely stop the build-up of scale and other impurities. Therefore, the self cleaning procedure should be carried out at least once a month, or more often if hard water is used.
Fill the water tank with cool water.
Plug the iron into a mains supply and switch it on.
Set the steam level to maximum and the iron temperature to MIN.
Carefully hold the iron horizontally over a sink and press and hold the steam trigger for three minutes. Steam and boiling water will drain from the soleplate, washing away the scale and minerals that have built up inside the steam chamber.
Turn the temperature of the iron to maximum. Ironing a damped cloth will then remove any deposits on the soleplate.
Storage
Unplug the steam generator from the mains and allow it to fully cool before pouring away any excess water and putting it away. Store the iron on the base unit, with the power cord very loosely coiled up. Do NOT tightly wrap the power cord around the iron or base unit, as it can become damaged and expose the live conductors.
