Stir liquids and purees before during and after cooking to distribute the heat evenly. Mashed potato will cook more evenlyand more thoroughly iflightly covered.
Nevertightly coverfood. Always coverit loosely.
Do not allow plastic film to touch food as it may chemically break down or melt or even catch fire and contaminate the food.
Arrange food in the dish so that the thicker part is on the outside andthe thinner partinside for moreeven cooking.Fold under the thin edgesof fish fillets and tapered foods. Control the shape,e.g. bytying a meat roastinto a cylinder,to get more uniform results.
6-7 minutesper 500gr.will cookmost diced meat, poultry fruit and vegetables.Seafood takes lesstime.
Different foods require different temperatures to cook. Add moreminutes as youdrop thepower.
Up to20% ofthe cooking takesplace after theoven turnsoff so always remember that your food will continue cooking after you'veremoved it.
Food thattakes anhour into cook ina regular ovenshould take around15 minutes inthe microwave.
Foods with baking powder should standa few minutes before cooking toallow theleavening agentsto work.
If arecipe callsfor milkand water, reducethe water. Rotate large items of food occasionally during cooking to
encourage evenheat distribution. Food cooks best and reheats better in a round dish or a dish
with curvedsides. Salt attracts microwaves.Don't just sprinkle it on food before
cooking,stir itin or addit later.
Fats andsugars attract microwaves -thoroughly mixsugar with other ingredients. Care should be taken when cooking foods with high sugar or fat contents as they can reach very high temperatures.
Handle pastry-wrapped foods like mince pies carefully as the filling getshotter thanthe pastry.
Hints forreheating food
Heat leftovers and pre-cooked food to at least 70°C. Food should behot andsteaming beforeit is served.
When re-heatingliquids such as meat stewssee that the liquid boils for around 3-5minutes to ensure the pieces of meat are completely heatedthrough.
Only defrost food in the microwave if you plan to cook the food immediately after it has thawed. Some areas of the food may begin to cook duringdefrosting, which can allow bacteria can flourish.
Remove the food from the wrapping, place it on a microwave safe dish.Rotate and re-arrangefood during defrosting.Where appropriate, stir the food and if possible, separate the food items andremove thosewhich havealready defrosted.
Steam andSmoke
Steam is a natural product of microwave cooking. It escapes from thevents in thetop and rear ofthe appliance. These vents should neverbe blocked.

Howmicrowave ovens work
Radio Interference
Suitable andunsuitable containers:
Microwave ovens work by producing high frequency energy. This energy agitates the water molecules in the food which rub together causing heat. This heat cooks the food.Microwave ovens do notcook food‘inside out’.When thickfood is cooked, the outer layers arecooked mainly bymicrowaves while theinside is cooked mainly bythe slowerconduction ofheat fromthe hot outerlayers.
Microwave cookingis very quick and efficient. Microwave cooking can alsohelp preservethe minerals andvitamins inmany foods.
The microwavepower output ofyour ovenis 800watts.
Because the temperature in a microwave oven is relatively cool (unlike anormal oven) youhave to remember thatthe food can be extremelyhot. Always takeprecautions whenhandling containers.
Cooking containers made from porcelain, glass and plastic can be penetrated by microwaves.Use heat resistant containers made for microwave ovens, otherwise there is a risk ofshrinking, deforming or burning.Metal containers,or containershaving metaldecoration or trimare notsuitable for usewith yourmicrowave oven.
When you are combination cooking, the container has to be heatproof as well as suitable for microwave cooking, as the grill functions likea normalgrill and getsvery hot.
Tescostores stocka wide rangeof microwavecontainers and wraps designed formicrowave ovens.
Wax paper, oven cooking bags, parchment paper and white microwavepaper towelsare safefor microwaveuse.
Woodenobjects maycatch fire- so avoidtheir use. Do not use aluminiumfoil unless the recipe specifically requiresit.
Keep foil at least 25mm away from the oven walls. Any metal skewers, ties, etc. shouldbe removedfrom foodbefore cooking.
Avoid containers which narrow at the top as these may cause the contentsto erupt whenremoved fromthe oven.
:
Some basic guidelines are given below:
Plastic filmsshould not touchfood as
they maygas, melt or breakdown whenhot and contaminatefood.
Operation of the microwaveoven can cause interference to your radio,TV or similar equipment. When there is interference,it may be reducedor eliminatedby takingthe following measures: Clean thedoor andsealing surface ofthe oven. Reorient thereceiving antennaof radioor television. Relocate themicrowaveoven with respectto thereceiver. Movethe microwaveoven awayfrom thereceiver.
