Step 1
With your mid-span stripping tool, remove approximately 2” of the cable jacket at the location you want the grounding cable assembly to connect. If you go over 2”, you can cover this during the weatherproofing stage later.
Step 2
Take the grounding cable assembly and attach it to the stripped area of the cable by using the end with the flexible aluminum lead. Fold the lead over until the threaded screws go through the holes. Tighten the screws by hand and then use the Phillips head screwdriver to tighten thoroughly.
Step 3
Start the weatherproofing by first using the provided Mastic Tape. Cut two strips of Mastic Tape (1.5”-2”), fold each strip over into two thick pieces and then place on either side of the attached grounding cable assembly lead. Press along the edges to create a smooth surface. Cut one more small piece of Mastic Tape and fold over into another thick piece. Tuck this piece of mastic in between the two pieces of cable (the grounding cable assembly and the bulk coaxial cable you are trying to ground) which are lying side by side. Press the grounding assembly cable down into this new piece of Mastic Tape to form a seal to prevent water from getting into the area where the lead is attached. Press all three pieces of the mastic tape together by wrapping your hands around the taped area to start forming a smooth seal.
Step 4
Take the rest of the Mastic Tape and wrap all around the remaining portion of exposed stripped cable and the grounding cable assembly lead starting from the bottom (where the grounding cable assembly cable meets the coaxial cable). Have the Mastic Tape end about 1”-2” above where the stripped coaxial cable portion is located. Press tape together with your hands to make sure there are no gaps between the Mastic Tape layers & pieces and that no sharp edges from the grounding cable assembly lead poke through. Gently meld the Mastic Tape together with your hands to form a small diamond shape.

Step 5
Take the roll of electrical tape and start wrapping around the Mastic Tape about a 1” – 2” beyond where the Mastic Tape ends. Start from the bottom (where the grounding cable assembly cable meets the coaxial cable). Make the first layer of electrical tape snug, but not tight, to prevent the Mastic Tape from coming through the cracks. For the second and third layers of electrical tape, wrap those very tight to take out any wrinkles or air bubbles to create a smooth, uniform-looking surface.
Step 6
Each grounding cable assembly includes three feet of cable to allow you to connect it to your grounding bus bar (not provided) at the bottom. Each Grounding Kit comes with bolts, grounding lug, locks, washers and a heat shrink tube to use for this purpose. Cut the grounding cable assembly cable to the appropriate length. Strip this end of the cable so the center conductor is exposed by using a blade or a stripping tool. Put the heat shrink tube over the end of the exposed cable. Put the ground lug on the end of the cable and crimp firmly. Perform a pull test to ensure the lug is crimped tightly onto the cable. Pull the heat shrink over the lug. The heat shrink should cover both the lug and a portion of the cable. Using a heat gun, lightly wave the gun over the heat shrink to provide a good seal. Ensure you do not overheat the cable jacket. Use the remaining provided hardware to firmly attach the lug to your ground bus bar.
