Introduction
TerraWave's 20” x 20” x 8” 802.11n multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) hard cap ceiling enclosure contains
and protects an 802.11n MIMO access point (AP) in an aesthetically pleasing and stealthy solution within a hard
cap ceiling, such as metal, sheet rock, stucco or wood. Once installed, the enclosure is conveniently secured
and flush with the hard cap ceiling.
This enclosure is specifically designed to support any TerraWave or Cisco 802.11n MIMO omnidire ctional
antenna. The enclosure may also be deployed with any TerraWave or Cisco 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz single band or
2.4/5 GHz dual band rubber duck antennas (quantity three for 2.4 GHz and quantity three for 5 GHz)*. For

6. Once the enclosure and AP are installed, the AP is protected and hidden from view, in a solution that is
flush with the hard cap ceiling.
7. Installation Considerations
A. Stage the Unit
•Determine which antennas will be used and what punch-out holes in the door should be knocked
out. (Please see list of antennas supported in the previous section.)
•Determine which AP will be installed inside the enclosure. (Note that this particular enclosure is
specifically designed for the Cisco 1252 AP or Motorola 7131 AP.)
•Consider cable management. Cable may be neatly positioned in the enclosure using customer
provided zip ties and zip tie mounting pads (reference Figure 4).

B. Install the cable conduit glands on the enclosure to secure cable to the inside and outsi de of the
Tip: This enclosure is designed to be installed in a hard cap ceiling by two separate methods.
Also, consider the positioning of the enclosure in relationship to the door swing for easy and
convenient access to the contents inside the enclosure once installed and when opened.
1. Corners of Face Plate with Supplied 3/8” Toggle Bolts
a. Installation requires cutting a 14.5” x 14.5” square hole in hard cap ceiling.
b. Knock out the laser perforated, circular punch-out holes in corners of face plate
(reference Figure 6).
TIP: The underside of the lip of the face plate should be supported to prevent

bending the door wall when knocking out the punch-out holes for each antenna.

c. Hold enclosure up to the ceiling. Mark the location of where the holes will need to be drilled in
the ceiling to install the enclosure. Drill four 1” holes into the marked locations on the ceiling.
d. Insert toggle bolts into the newly cut holes in the face of the enclosure.
e. Screw bolt s into ceilin g. The toggle will reopen once the bolts have passed through both the
face of the enclosure and ceiling material. All of the weight of the enclosure and its contents
rest on each toggle bolt head. The top of each bolt head is powder coated to blend with the
Tips: This method can be used if the customer has a hard cap ceiling with studs 16” on
center. The inside of the enclosure body should be supported to prevent bending
the body of the enclosure when knocking out the punch-out holes for each
supporting stud bolt. Also, consider the positioning of the enclosure in
relationship to the door swing and rafter direction for easy and convenient access
to the contents inside the enclosure once installed and when opened.
a. Knock out two of the four laser perforated, circular punch-out holes in the sides of the enclosure
body – one directly across from the other (reference Figure 9).

b. Depending on the material the studs are of made of, insert two customer-provided wood or
sheet metal screws inside the newly cut holes within the body of the enclosure*.
*Please note that these screws are not included in the enclosure components. TerraWave
recommends using 3/8” wood or sheet metal screws.
c. Secure the enclosure to the studs ensuring the face of the enclosure is flush with the ceiling
surface.
8. The large perimeter opening facilitates component installation, maintenance or conversion.
9. Excellent value. Superior quality at exceptional pricing.
