I. IMPORTANT INFORMATIONS REGARDING THE RECOVERY AND RECYCLING OF THIS
ELECTRONIC DEVICE
The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol below indicates that this electronic equipment is intended to be disposed in a separate collection and not in an unsorted municipal waste, in order to provide for the treatment of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) using best available recovery and recycling techniques. Specific treatment for WEEE is indispensable in order to avoid the dispersion of pollutants and other hazardous substances into the waste stream, while recycling leads to reduction of disposal of waste and the negative impacts on environment and human health. That is, priority is given to reuse of WEEE in its components, subassemblies and consumables. As the final holder, the user has an important role in contributing to reuse, recycling and other forms of recovery of WEEE and is responsible to return this waste in the collection facilities set up by EC Member States and to fulfill other duties in compliance with Directive 2002/96/EC and local laws.

6. INSTALLATION AND SERVICES
6.1. PBX connections
The installation procedure consists to connect up to four PBX’s analogs extension to T40. On the rear panel of the device, there are four RJ sockets, one for each analog telephone line. Lines from PBX could be connected to the internal contacts of the wall-mounting sockets coming with the unit, on screw marked “tip“ and “ring”. Then connect to T40 plugs by normal telephone lines cables.
On PBX, create a group of extension, corresponding to those connected to T40, then program PBX to divert all incoming calls toward this group.
It is normal practice to leave one (or more) T40 line, out of the incoming group, using it only for outgoing calls (message notification and signaling); this configuration is recommended in case the system receives many messages in mailboxes and a fast mailbox status advice and heavy message playback is required.
The picture shows the T40 installation scheme. Incoming calls are diverted on the extension group where T40 is connected.
The operator is supported by T40, not substituted by it. The device automatically connects callers to extensions they can directly select or, for no selection, connect them to operator that will manage only no automatically processed calls.

6.2. Start Up
Once the lines are connected and configured as above, is possible to check the system, easily with a call to T40 group extension number. If everything is ok, a standard message is played and an extension number selection is requested. Then hang up and start with services configuration.
Due the system doesn’t has neither video nor keyboard, for the programming is request to plug the com port to a ANSI terminal emulator using a null-modem cable, and setup the communication baud rate at 115.200 bps. There are much software suited to do this operation; following is descript how to use HyperTerminal™ software, a default windows component from Windows95™ version.
Open HyperTerminal™ from “Accessory”, “Communications” from the tool bar.
In the following window, the program asks to create a new connection:

In the name field insert connection ID, for example T40, then press enter to confirm. It may be asked to configure a modem, chose No.
At the end the window, the program asks to configure the connection. In the “Connect” field chose COM1 (or the port you select to use).
Confirming with OK, now port configuration is requested: Chose 115.200 in “Bit per second” field and None in “Flush control” field.
Confirming with OK, if everything is ok, pressing <Enter> more than ones, T40 main window is showed.

In case characters of the window results confused, select “Character” in “Show” menu.
From font selection field, chose “Terminal” then type and 9 or 12 dimension (a small font will generate a small windows, a big font will be better visible but, on low resolution, no whole windows could be showed).
Now the software for system configuration is ready to use.
When you close the HyperTerminal™, saving your settings is requested. Saving connection, when you will need to connect to T40 the next time, simply select the saved connection (in the example named T40), all parameters will automatically be applied and the T40 main window will be displayed.

To choose a function, press the corresponding capital letter showed on the left of the functions list (for example “P” for general parameters, “L” for lines configuration, and so on..).
To exit from a function windows press ESC to return to previous menu, if different methods are not showed. If changes was made, software will ask you to save them.
At this point, you must configure system working mode and the extensions accessing modes:
Which incoming message must be played to callers (if different to the standard message), which extensions callers could be reached by T40 and eventually if they also have a voicemail box.
The welcome message is to be used to presents the company name and it is better to make a short and direct message without annoy callers but only suggest quick selections or connect them to the operator after the firm presentation.
