Important Safety Instructions
(1) Be sure to use DC12V power supply.
(2) This equipment is designed and guaranteed to work from 0°C to 40°C. Do not use
this equipment beyond that limit.
(3) Do not expose image pickup surface to sunlight or other intense light directly.(The
heat of these light may do damages to CCDs[charge-coupled device])
(4) Even when the equipment is not in use, make sure to put lens or lens-cap onto the
camera head, so that sensitive image pickup surface is protected from fine dusts,
surface flaws, stains.
(5) Take care not to drop the equipment, nor give strong impact, as this may cause
breakdown.
(6) In case any abnormal conditions or breakdown should occur, turn the power switch
off immediately, and request our distributor for after-sales service. The continual
use of the equipment despite any abnormal conditions or breakdown may worsen
the conditions, or may cause unexpected accident.
(7) To clean the body of this equipment, make sure to turn the power switch off first. To
remove stubborn stains, use soft cloth with diluted acid-free detergent. After that,
clean with dry cloth.
(8) In case image pickup surface should be settled with fine dust, dirt, or scratched, ask
our distributor for technical advice.

1. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
CS8531 series are separate type B/W CCD cameras employing CCDs, which read out all
pixels data in just one field.
2. FEATURES
(1) Compact and light weight
The shape of camera head is constructed a cube of 20mm on a side and the weight is
approximately 19g. And it allows superior performance to highly resistant for shock
and vibration.
(2) Camera cable pull-out direction
The camera cable pullout direction on the camera head provides five (5) ways, which can
be selected any direction of either the rear or side panels (4 directions).
(3) All pixel’s data Read Out
Unlike other CCDs, which read out all pixel’s data in 2 fields (1/30 sec.), the CCDs of
CS8531 read out all pixel’s data in just 1 fields (1/60 sec.). (60Hz interlace, 2 lines
output)
(4) High vertical resolution
As all pixel’s data are read out even in random trigger shutter mode, images with no
deterioration in vertical resolution are gained.
(5) Square grid pattern CCD
Pixels in CCD are aligned in square grid pattern. This makes it easier to perform
computation correctly for image processing use.
(6) External Sync. system
In addition to the conventional VS (SYNC) Sync. system, HD/VD (VD direct reset
method) Sync. System is adopted. Easy Sync. For system which does not synchronize
with CCIR, is achieved.
(7) Random trigger shutter function
Random trigger shutter, which starts light-exposure synchronizing with external trigger
signal, is building in. This function enables to capture the images at any given timing.

(1) Camera cable (CPRC3700)
(2) Lens (12mm)
Focal length: f=30mm,17mm,12mm,6mm
5. THE FUNCTION OF EACH SWITCH
(1) GAIN control selection (CCU rear SW) MANU : Manual GAIN volume (Adjustable with a CCU rear SW) FIX : Initial factory-set level AGC : Automatic GAIN control
(2) Video output mode selection (CCU rear SW) 1/60 : 1/60s interlace mode 1/30 : 1/30s Non-interlace mode (Only 1 output through VIDEO1)
(3) Shutter mode selection (Selectable with an inner SW) NOR mode: Normal electronic shutter
-1. High-speed shutter (Initial factory-setting)(1/8,000s~1/60s)
-2. Flicker-less: (1/100s) MIX mode : For outputting image with high sensitivity (Only output Through VIDEO1) R.R mode : Restart & Reset For outputting image with at the timing given by external VD signals, Long-time exposure. ④RDM mode: Random trigger shutter For controlling exposure time with the pulse-width of external trigger signal.
(4) Shutter speed selection (Exposure time) ①Under NOR mode : The shutter speed of normal electronic shutter is selectable among the ranges shown below.
5
Selection with a inner SW
Shutter speed (s) SW1
4 5 6
Normal OFF OFF OFF
1/100 ON OFF OFF 1/250 OFF ON OFF
1/500 ON ON OFF 1/1000 OFF OFF ON 1/2000 ON OFF ON 1/4000 OFF ON ON 1/8000 ON ON ON
Under MIX mode: The same as under NOR mode. Under R.R mode: The shutter speed is controlled via external VD signals.
(Selection available with an inner SW) (Make sure to set this SW OFF to operate the camera in other modes) The shutter speed (exposure time) is determined by the interval of VD signals. Lower shutter speed with freer timing than that under NOR mode is obtained easily. Under RDM mode: The shutter speed is controlled via external trigger signals. (Polarity: Negative) This mode may be used when wider range of shutter speed with freer timing than that under NOR mode is necessary.
6
CAUTION
•Do NOT set SW1-2 and SW1-3 ON concurrently.
•Do NOT set SW1-1 ON concurrently with selecting 1/30 (1/30s Non-interlace
Mode) video output mode.
6. CONNECTION
(1) CS8531 connector pin configuration
Connector (CS8531 CCU side)
DC/SYNC connector; HR10A-10R-12PB, Hirose Elec. Co.
Connector (Cable side)
DC/SYNC connector; HR10A-10R-12S, Hirose Elec. Co.
Pin number Signal name Pin number Signal name
1 GND 7 VD/VS SYNCH IN/OUT
2 +12V 8 GND
3 VIDEO.GND 9 VIDEO.2 OUT
4 VIDEO.1 OUT 10 GND
5 HD/VD.GND 11 TRIG IN
6 HD IN/OUT 12 GND
Caution: When DC IN/SYNC (12-pin connector) is in use for video output, NEVER use
either of BNC connectors for the same use.(These are in two places.) If both
type of connectors are used at the same time, that will cause double termination,
Thus proper video output will not be gained.
External Sync. Signal is IN/OUT selectable by inner switch inside the camera control
unit.
(2) HD, VD
Input / Output: IN/OUT selectable (With an inner SW, Initial factory-setting: IN)
IN: For inputting HD, VD into CS8531. (Initial factory shipped setting)
OUT: For outputting HD, VD from CS8531.
