Instructions
Some of the TLA715, TLA721, and TLA7UP Option 16 and 17 controllers
require new drivers to work with the TLA700 CD for TLA version 4.1.
While booting the logic analyzer after rebuilding the hard disk, after replacing
the mainframe controller, or after installing TLA7UP Option 16 or 17, the logic
analyzer appears to hang on the Windows 2000 startup screen. To address this
problem, you need to load the drivers from the floppy disks that accompany
these instructions.
Symptoms Addressed by these Instructions
A change in the stepping of the Intel 815 chip set resulted in a change to the
hardware version ID internal to the ICs. The new hardware revision ID causes
the Windows 2000 operating system not to boot properly. The video output
switches from the Primary Video connector to the Secondary Video connector
giving the appearance of a hung system.
Equipment Required
Driver Installation
You will need the following items to install the drivers:
HExternal display monitor
HTLA7UP Options 16 and 17 Driver Installation floppy disks (the disks

NOTE. You can download these instructions and the drivers from the Tektronix
website at www.tektronix.com/LA.
Complete the following steps to load the drivers:
1. If you have not already done so, power down the logic analyzer.
2. Connect an external display monitor to the Secondary Video output on the
The external monitor will not show anything for a few moments (at least 30
seconds) until video output switches to the external monitor. Depending on
whether the mainframe contains any modules, different messages will

4. Click OK for any messages that may display.
An Insert Disk dialog box appears prompting you to insert a new disk for the
PCI-VXI Bridge.
5. Insert the floppy disk labeled TLA7UP Option 16 & 17 Driver Upgrade,
Silicon Motion & PCI--VXI Drivers and then click OK.
6. Click Browse in the Files Needed dialog box and locate the PCI-VXI Bridge
folder on the floppy disk.
7. Open the folder and click Open to open the vbd.sys file; this file should
already be selected in the dialog box.
8. Click OK to copy the files from A:\PCI-VXI Bridge.
A new Found New Hardware Wizard appears that looks for the Silicon
Motion Lynx3DM driver (this is the primary display system in the logic
analyzer).
9. Click Next >.
10. Select “Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can
choose a specific driver” and then click Next >.
11. Click Browse and open the Lynx3DM Video folder on the floppy disk.
