General Safety Summary
Review the following safety precautions to avoid injury and prevent damage to
this product or any products connected to it.
To avoid potential hazards, use this product only as specified.

Personal Injury
Use Proper Power Cord. Use only the power cord specified for this product and
certified for the country of use.
Ground the Product. This product is grounded through the grounding conductor
of the power cord. To avoid electric shock, the grounding conductor must be
connected to earth ground. Before making connections to the input or output
terminals of the product, ensure that the product is properly grounded.
Ground Equipment Connected to the Product. Ensure that any equipment
connected to this product is grounded and at the same potential.
Observe All Terminal Ratings. To avoid fire or shock hazard, observe all ratings
and markings on the product. Consult the product manual for further ratings
information before making connections to the product.
Do Not Operate Without Covers. Do not operate this product with covers or panels
removed.
Use Proper Fuse. Use only the fuse type and rating specified for this product.
Avoid Exposed Circuitry. Do not touch exposed connections and components
when power is present.
Do Not Operate With Suspected Failures. If you suspect there is damage to this
product, have it inspected by qualified service personnel.
Do Not Operate in Wet/Damp Conditions.
Do Not Operate in an Explosive Atmosphere.
Keep Product Surfaces Clean and Dry.
Provide Proper Ventilation. Refer to the manual’s installation instructions for
details on installing the product so it has proper ventilation.

Service Safety Summary
Only qualified personnel should perform service procedures. Read this Service
Safety Summary and the General Safety Summary before performing any service
procedures.
Do Not Service Alone. Do not perform internal service or adjustments of this
product unless another person capable of rendering first aid and resuscitation is
present.
Disconnect Power. To avoid electric shock, switch off the instrument power, then
disconnect the power cord from the mains power.
Use Care When Servicing With Power On. Dangerous voltages or currents may
exist in this product. Disconnect power, remove battery (if applicable), and
disconnect test leads before removing protective panels, soldering, or replacing
components.
To avoid electric shock, do not touch exposed connections.
Use only Tektronix approved components when servicing the unit.

Kit Description
This document provides instructions for installing interface hardware upgrades
into an existing Tektronix MTM400 MPEG Transport Stream Monitor. Removal
of any currently installed interface hardware is also described.
The following MTM400 interface hardware upgrades are covered by this kit:
HMTM4FQA. Adds a QAM (Annex A) interface board.
HMTM4FQB2. Adds a QAM (Annex B, Level 1 and 2) interface board.
HMTM4FQC. Adds a QAM (Annex C) interface board.
HMTM4FQP. Adds a QPSK (L-Band) interface board.
HMTM4FEP. Adds a 8PSK interface board.
HMTM4FVS. Adds a 8VSB interface board.
HMTM4FCF. Adds a COFDM interface board.
HMTM4FGE. Adds a GbE interface board.
NOTE. With the release of MTM400 firmware version 2.1.0, the MTM4FQB
interface option was supply depleted and is no longer available. That option has
been replaced by the MTM4FQB2 interface option.
The discontinued MTM4FQB interface option will still operate properly with
MTM400 firmware versions 2.1.0 through 2.3.8.

Kit Description
Products
The following products are supported by this kit (except as noted under MTM400
Serial Number Variants below):

WebMSM Web Monitoring System Manager
WebMSM Configuration Editor
MTM400 Serial Number
Variants
Two variants in the construction of the MTM400 have been available. They are
differentiated by the format of the Serial Number as shown below. The serial
number of each unit is printed on a label attached to the rear panel of the unit.
Serial number formats
GB400-xxxx (Example: GB400-1234)
Bxxxxxx (Example: B010100)
NOTE. These instructions do not apply to units carrying the GB* serial number.
If your unit carries this form of serial number, you will be advised on the correct
procedure when you order your upgrade.

Installation Instructions
These instructions are for personnel who are familiar with servicing the product.
If you need further details for disassembling or reassembling the product, refer to
the appropriate product manual. Contact your nearest Tektronix, Inc., Service
Center or Tektronix Factory Service for installation assistance.
CAUTION. To prevent static discharge damage, service the product only in a
static-free environment. Observe standard handling precautions for static-sensitive devices while installing this kit. Always wear a grounded wrist strap,
grounded foot strap, and static resistant apparel while installing this kit.
The following software activities require access to the MTM400, using either the
Remote User Interface or a W ebMSM interface. (Refer to the MTM400 UserManual supplied in this kit, Tektronix part number: 071-1224-xx.)
The activities for adding any of the hardware options to the MTM400 are
essentially the same. The steps required are listed below and are detailed on the
following pages:
HIf necessary, upgrade the BIOS version
HUpgrade the Processor board software version
HEnter and upload the new license key
HInstall the new interface board and, if required, install the RF cable
HConfigure the MTM400 for the new interface type
HIf necessary, configure the new interface board
HReinstall the WebMSM software
