Instruction Sheet
Description
The Model 5808 Single-Pin Kelvin Probes are two single fixed-pin probes. Each probe has source and se ns e
leads and color-coded safety banana plugs. They are designed for applications that require Kelvin resistance
measurements with the convenience of a single point of circuit contact.
The Kelvin Probes are intended for use in low-voltage 4-wire resistance applications, usually in low-level
resistance applications (less than 100 Ω). The ohms current and voltage sensing leads are separately
connected to the base of the single-pin probe tips. The probes are intended for use with an instrument that can
measure 4-wire resistance, such as the Keithley Instruments Series 2000 High-Performance Digital Multimeters
or Series 2400 SourceMeter Instruments.

Connection instructions
The Model 5808 is intended for use in low-r es is tanc e app licat ions be lo w 42 volts. W hile the leads
can be used to measure voltage and current, they should not be used above maximum voltage or
current ratings. Failure to follow this precaution may result in damage to the probes.
To connect the probes:
1. Insert the red probe plugs into the Input, Force, or Sense HI connectors.
2. Insert the black probe plugs into the Input, Force, or Sense LO connectors.
3. Set the instrument to 4-wire remote sensing.
The internal wiring of each probe assembly is identical, so you do not need to color-match the banana plugs to
sense or input terminals.
The sensing point in the probe is at the base of the tip. The small resistance of the tip is not
eliminated. If you need to eliminate this resistance, Keithley Instruments Models 5805, 5806, 5807-7,
and 5809 are alternate probes that provide additional control over the sense point location.
