Instrument
Serial
Numbers
Each instrument manufactured by Tektronix has a serial number on a panel insert or tag, or stamped on the chassis. The first letter in the serial number designates the country of manufacture. The last five digits of the serial number are assigned sequentially and are unique to each instrument. Those manufactured in the United States have six unique digits. The country of manufacture is identified as follows:
BOl 0000
Tektronix, Inc., Beaverton, Oregon, USA
E200000
Tektronix United Kingdom,
Ltd.,
London J300000 Sonyflektronix, Japan H700000
Tektronix Holland,
NV,
Heerenveen, The Netherlands
Instruments manufactured for Tektronix by external vendors outside the United States are assigned a two digit
alpha code to identify the country of manufacture
(e.g., JP for Japan, HK for Hong Kong, IL for Israel, etc.).

Preface
This manual is divided into the following sections.
Section 1, Introduction, includes a description of the
2707
External
Tracking Generator and lists the accessories and options available for it. Section
2,
Getting Started, includes information about mechanically and electrically attaching the External Tracking Generator to its controlling spectrum analyzer. This section also describes a functional check that you can perform to verify that the External Tracking Generator is operating.
Section
3,
Operation, describes the operation of controls, functions of
front and rear panel connectors, and power requirements for the Exter-
nal Tracking Generator. Using the controlling spectrum analyzer menus
to operate the External Tracking Generator is also discussed. Finally, this
section provides the information required to operate the External Tracking Generator.
Section
4,
Specification, lists
in
table format the specifications for the
External Tracking Generator.
The
tables are grouped into three catego-
ries: nominal traits, warranted characteristics, and typical characteristics.
m
Section
5,
Performance Verification, provides tests that verify most of the warranted characteristics listed in the Specification section. This section lists the required test equipment.
m
Section
6,
Adjustment Procedure, and the following sections are intended for use by qualified service personnel only. This section provides
adjustment procedures to return the External Tracking Generator to conformance with its warranted characteristics.
Section
7,
Senlice Information, contains general maintenance inforrna-
tion, inspection
and
cleaning procedures, removal and installation
procedures, and troubleshooting information. Section
8,
Theory of Operation, describes the circuit operation of the
External Tracking Generator, referencing block diagrams and the de-
tailed schematic diagrams in section
10.
m
Section
9,
Replaceable Electrical Parts, lists all the replaceable electrical
parts in the
2707
External Tracking Generator by circuit designation and
part number. Section
1
0,
Schematic Diagrams and Circuit Board Illustrations, contains
schematic diagrams, circuit board illustrations, and component look-up
tables.
m
Section 11, Replaceable Mechanical Parts, lists all the replaceable
mechanical parts and their part numbers. Exploded views aid in identifying the mechanical parts.
