defects in materials and workmanship for a period of three (3) months from the date of shipment. If a product proves
defective during this warranty period, Tektronix, at its option, either will repair the defective product without charge for
parts and labor, or will provide a replacement in exchange for the defective product.
In order to obtain service under this warranty, Customer must notify Tektronix of the defect before the expiration of the

Product Description
The Sampling Module Extender can be used to extend the reach of any 80E00
Series Sampling Module from the instrument in which it is installed. The
extender is intended for use with the CSA8000 Communications Signal Analyzer
or the TDS8000 Digital Sampling Oscilloscope. The extender is installed
between the sampling module and the instrument, allowing the sampling module
to be operated out of the module compartment in the instrument.
The term “extender” refers to either of the following two extenders, available in
two lengths:
H1 meter012-1568-00
H2 meter012-1569-00
Why Use?
Use the extender to extend the sampling module out of its instrument compartment to reach the device under test. Using the extender avoids input-signal
degradation that can occur when using interconnect cables between the sampling
module and the device under test to extend reach.
Exclusions
Observe the following usage rules to avoid damaging your sampling modules or
instruments:
HThe extender can be used only with electrical sampling modules (80E00
series); it is not usable with optical modules (80C00 series).
HThe extender can only be used with the CSA8000 or the TDS8000 instru-
ment and its sampling modules; do NOT attempt to use this extender with an

Product Description
11800 or a CSA800 series instrument. Instead, use the extender made solely
for the 11800 and the CSA800 instrument.
HAlso, do not attempt to use the extender cable that was made solely for the
11800 and CSA800 instrument with a CSA8000 or TDS8000 instrument or
its sampling modules.
Compensation Requirement
You must run a compensation (accessed from the Utilities menu) whenever the
extender configuration is changed from that present at the last compensation. In
short, if you install or remove an 80E00 extender, run a compensation. If you
exchange a extender for one of a different length, run a compensation. For
instructions on running a compensation, see the CSA8000 and TDS8000 UserManual.
Operating Temperature Requirement
Horizontal Position
When you install one or more of the two-meter extenders, the operating
temperature range of the instrument is reduced from +10 to +40 degrees C to +10
to +35 degrees C. The one-meter extender does not reduce the operating
temperature range.
Inserting a sampling-module extender increases the minimum horizontal position
settable by the instrument as follows:
H1 meter:+5 ns
H2 meter:+10 ns
NOTE. Because horizontal position is a global setting, installing an extender
with any sampling module increases the minimum horizontal position setting for
waveforms acquired from all modules, extended or not.

Installation Instructions
CAUTION. To prevent damage to the sampling module or instrument, never install
or remove this extender from the instrument or from the sampling module when
the instrument is powered on. Observe standard handling precautions for
static-sensitive devices while installing this kit. Always wear a grounded wrist
strap, grounded foot strap, and static resistant apparel while installing this kit.
Also when installing or using this product, observe all static precautions and
warnings listed in the User manuals for the sampling module and main
instrument.
NOTE. The sampling-module extenders are keyed to prevent their connection to
any device other than 80E00 Electrical Sampling Modules and to prevent two or
more extenders from being connected in series.
Perform the following steps to install the extender between the instrument and
the electrical sampling module:
To Instrument
1. If the instrument is running, shut it down by pressing the On/Standby button
on the front panel.
2. Install the connector labeled “To Instrument” into a suitable compartment in
the instrument. See the sampling-module user manual if you require more
information.

3. Use the connector marked “To Sampling Module” to connect to the sampling
module. See the sampling-module user manual if you require information on
connecting signals to the sampling module.
