Congratulations! Your TEK PA RTNER™ Universal Remote Control is a state -of-the-art device whic
integrates many different infra-red remote controls. The TEK PARTNER™ is pre -programmed at the
factory, but you will need to enter a Device Code for e ach device to complete the program. Simply
enter correct device codes for your equipment an d y our T EK PARTNER™ is read y to use! A Device
Code List is included in this User ’s M anual. The TEK PARTNER™ replac es up to 4 separate remote
controls to operate your inf ra-red controlled televi sions (TVs), video cassette recorders (VCRs), an d
cable boxes ( CBLs).
HOW TO INSTALL THE BATTERIES
Your TEK PARTNER™ r equires 4 fresh AA-size batteries (al kaline batteries recomm ended).
1. Re move the battery cover on the back of your TEK PARTNER™.
2. O bserve the polarity of the batteries and the "+/-" marks inside the battery compartment.
3. Inse rt the batteries.
4. Push the battery cover back in place.NOTE:
When all batteries are disconnected, the TEK PARTNER™ retains its setting only for 15 minutes.
Should yo u fail to replace new batteries in time, use a stylus or the tip of a pen to reset the unit. Th
reset butto n is located inside the b attery comp artment.
You may now have to re-progra m yo ur TEK PARTNER ™. See SETTING UP YOUR TEK PARTN ER™
section.

SETTING UP Y OUR TEK PART NER™
There are 4 Device Mod es (TV, VCR, CBL, & AUX ) in your TE K PARTNER™ . You may se tup the TEK
PARTNER™ by the following code entering or searching instructions.
SetupbyenteringDEVICE CODE
Referring to the DEVICE CODE LIST, look up the 3-digit DEVICE C ODE w hich corresponds to the
brands and models of your video equipment. If there is more than one DEV ICE CODE listed under
your brand, try the first code with the following instructions:
Forexample,enteringyourTV’scode:
1. Hold down "PREV CH" and "ENTER" together for approximately 4 seconds until the status indicat
(located to the left of the "1" button) lights up.
2. Press a desired Device Mode Button (e.g. "TV").
3. U se the number buttons to enter y our 3-digit Device Code (f rom the Device Code List) for your
TV. The indicator should go out immediately. NOTE: The status indic ator will not bl ink w h ile enterin
Device Codes in step 3 above.
4. Turn on your d evice (e.g. TV), try the functions on the TEK PARTNER™. If your device (e.g. TV)
responds to your requested function correctly, you have entered the correct Device Code. Otherwis
repeat the above setup instructions with the remaining Device Codes until your device (e.g. TV)
responds to your requested function.
5. S imply repeat the above procedures to enter t he D evice Codes for your VCR & CBL - (Reme mber
to press a co rrect Devic e Mode Butt on in step 2 ab ove).NOT ES:

Any Device Codes can be e ntered into "CBL" & "AUX" mod es. (i.e. The "CBL" & "AUX" m odes
can b e used to control TVs and/or VCRs). Simply press the "CBL" or "AUX" Device Mode
Button in step 2 above and enter your 3 -digit Device Code for CBL or other d evices.

If the ind icator fla shes twice during t he above p rocedure , a wrong D evice Cod e has been
entered. You are required to repeat steps 2 and 3 again.

If you cannot find a correct De vice Code for your equipmen t, see Setup by SEARCH THR O UG
THE LIBRARY section.

It is highly recomm ended, for future reference, to write down your Device Codes on the
bottom label of your TEK PARTNER™.
SEARCH THR OUGH THE LIBRA RY
If you cannot identify a correct Device Code for your equipment from the Device Code List, you ma
try the code search m ethod.
For example: Turn on your device (e.g . TV) .
1. Hold d own "PREV CH" and "ENTER" together for approximately 4 seconds until the status indicat
lights up .
2. Press a desired Device Mode Button (e.g. "TV").
3. E nter a following corresponding Magic Search Code, and your TEK PARTNER™ is now rea dy to
start searching.
Magic Search Codes: TV: 990 VCR: 992 CBL: 994
For example, press... ("PREV CH" & "ENTER" ... "TV" ... 990)
To search: Aim your TEK PARTNE R™ at the device (e.g. TV), pre ss th e "P WR" and
4. "VOL+" button al ternately, repeatedly, slowly and patiently until the device turns o ff. (NOTE:
There are approximately 70 TV codes, 55 VCR codes, and 55 Cablebox
5. codes.) Once your device has been turned off, im mediately press the sam e De vice Mode Button
(e.g. TV) again to lock in the code and the indicator should go out. If the indicator flashes twice aft
pressing the "VOL+" B utton, you are already at the last code of the library. You may press "VOL-" t
search backward and repeat carefully the above procedures to search again. Simply repeat the
above procedures to se arc h the Device Codes for your VCR and CBL keys. (Remem ber to press a
correct Device Mode Butt on i n step 2 above).

TV, VCR, and CBL Device Cod es can be searched and lock ed into "CBL" & "AUX" modes.
Simply press "CBL" or "AUX" Device Mode Button in step 2 and enter an appropriate Magic
Search Code to start searching.
z
Each time you press the "VOL+" button, the TEK PARTNER™ will skip to the next code. Then
press the " PWR" button to send ou t a POWER signa l trying to turn off your device.
z
Ifyoufailedtostoppressing"VOL+"intimewhenyour devicehasbeenturnedoff,turnon
your device again immedia tely. Before the indicator g oes out, press "VOL-" on th e TE K
PARTNER™ to skip backward. Rep eat step 4 above and lock in the c ode.
z
If the power on/off function of your device is not infra-red controlled, you need to follow step
1 thru 3 above and start searching: Press "VOL+" and another important function button
alternately until your device responds to the expected function, press the same device mode
button again to lo ck in the code. e.g . Pres s "VOL+" & "1 " al ternately, or; Pres s "VOL+" &
"PLAY" a lternately until the device responds.
OPERATING THE TEK PARTNER™
NORMAL O PERATIO N
Once you have set up the TEK PARTNER ™ f or your equipment, it works like your original remo te
controls. To operate, jus t ai m i t at your equipment, press a n appropriate Device Mod e B utton and
then c omm and the desired function by pressing a corresponding button on the TEK PARTNER™. Th
indicator flashes during signal transmission and as confirmation of button touch. At your button
touch, your TEK PARTNER ™ illuminates the keypad fo r 4 seconds. You may see th e k eypad clearly
even when you are opera ting y our equipment in a dimly lit are a.
PUNCH THROU GH
Punch through allows you to operate your TV’s volume and mute functions and your VCR’s 6 tape
management functions with out having to switch the devic e m odes repeatedly even when your TEK
PARTNER™ is in other operating modes.
MAINTENA NCE
1. Do not expose your TEK PARTNER™ to direct sunlight, high temperature, mechanical shock, or
liquids.
2. Do n ot use old and new batteries together as old batteries tend to leak.
3. Do n ot use corrosive or abrasive cleansers on your TEK PARTNER™.
4.Keeptheunitdustfreebywipingitwitha soft,drycloth.
5. D o not disassemble your TEK PARTNER ™, it co ntains no user-serviceable parts.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
Q. My TEK PARTN E R™ does not work at all!
A. If yo ur device’s main switch is turned off, the TEK PARTNER™ can not operate the device.
A. Check whether batteries are in good condition, insert ed properly, and are in corr ect + /- polarity.

A. MakesureyouhavepressedtheDeviceModeButtonbeforeusinganyfunctions.
Q. If several Device Codes are listed for m y device, how can I select the correct Device Code?
A. To seek th e Device Code for your device, test the codes one by one until the buttons work
properly.
Q. My equipment responds only to some of the commands.
A. You h ave set a code for which only some commands work properly but some do not. Try other
codes u ntil the buttons w ork proper ly.
Q. May I setup the TEK PARTNER™ to control more than one TV, VCR, and CBL at a time?
A. The T EK PARTN ER™ can con trol more than one device of the same type by pr ogrammi ng the
device code in the CBL & AUX devi c e mo des (i.e. up to 3 TVs). See SE TTING UP YOUR TEK
