3 • Before first use
4 • Preparation
Please read these instructions carefully and keep them for future reference. Remove and throw away the plastic part that protects the cord (A). Remove any labels from the soleplate before heating up the iron (depending on model).
• Before using your iron with the steam function for the first time, we recommend that you operate it in a horizontal position for a few moments, away from your linen, i.e. press the boost of steam button a few times (depending on model).
• During the first few uses, a harmless odour and smoke may be given off. This is normal with no effect on the use of the iron and will disappear quickly.
What water to use ?
• Your appliance has been designed to function with untreated tap water. However, Self-cleaning of the appliance should be carried out once a month in order to eliminate hard water deposits from the steam chamber.
If you have very hard water, mix untreated tap water with commercially available demineralised or distilled water in the following ratio: 50% untreated tap water / 50% demineralised or distilled water.
Types of water not to use : Heat concentrates the elements contained in water during evaporation. The types of water listed below may contain organic waste, mineral or chemical elements that can cause spitting, brown staining or premature wear of the appliance: water from clothes dryers, scented or softened water, water from refrigerators, batteries, air conditioners, rain water, boiled, filtered or bottled water. These types of water should not be used in your TEFAL iron. Also only use distilled or demineralised water as advised above.
• The integrated anti-calc system (according to model) gives better quality ironing: a constant flow of steam throughout the ironing session and longer lasting performance of your appliance.
Filling the water tank
• Unplug your iron before filling it and set the steam control to (fig.1).
• Open the water tank filling inlet cover (fig.2), place the iron flat and fill it (fig.3).
Fill the tank up to the “MAX” mark.
Using the Easycord system
• Your iron is equipped with the Easycord system to prevent the cord trailing across the laundry and creasing it during ironing.
• Press the button located on the base (fig.4) and the Easycord system is automatically in use. You can now plug in your appliance and begin ironing.
Always use the Easycord system for enhanced comfort of use.

• Your iron heats up quickly : so begin by ironing fabrics that are ironed at low temperatures first, then go on to those requiring a higher temperature.
It is normal for the indicator light to switch on and off during ironing In order to avoid water dripping from the iron onto the linen:
- turn off the steam when ironing silk or synthetic fabrics.
- set it at the minimum position for wool.
If you turn down the thermostat, wait until the thermostat light comes back on before beginning to iron again or it will be too hot. When ironing fabrics with mixed fibres, set the ironing temperature for the most delicate fibre. For delicate fabrics we recommend testing the fabric first on an inconspicuous place eg (inside the hem). If you want to dry iron, set the Steam control to .
Obtain more steam (according to model)
• Press the boost of steam button now and again to remove stubborn creases (fig.8).
Wait a few seconds between each shot before pressing the button again.
Spray Function
• Whether steam or dry ironing, you are able to use the Spray button (fig.9) to dampen laundry to remove stubborn creases.
Vertical steam ironing (according to model)
Ideal for removing creases in suits, jackets, skirts, curtains, etc.:
• Hang the garment on a hanger and hold the fabric slightly taut with one hand.
• Set the thermostat control to MAX (fig.5).
• Press the boost of steam button button repeatedly (fig.8) moving the iron from top to bottom (fig.10).
• Hold the iron a few centimetres from the fabric to avoid burning delicate fabrics.
Every fifth time you press the button, return the iron to the horizontal position. The steam is very hot, so you should always do this with the garment on a hanger – never while someone is wearing it.
Storing your iron
• Set the steam control to and unplug the iron.
• Wait until the soleplate cools down and empty the water tank. A little water may remain in the water tank.
• To wind the cord around the heel of the iron, slot the Easycord system into the notch (
fig.11). Take the end of the Easycord system and press to make the flexible
part go back into the base (fig.12). Wind the cord.
• Store the cold iron on its heel (fig.13).
Cleaning the anti-calc valve (once a month or more
frequently in a hard water area)
• Unplug your iron and empty the water tank.
• Press the self-clean ejection button (fig.14a) and remove the anti-calc valve (fig.14b).
• Soak the valve in a cup of white spirit vinegar or plain lemon juice for 4 hours.
• Rinse the valve under running water and place it back in the iron.
Unplug your iron and let it cool down before cleaning it. The iron will not function without the anti-calc valve. Never touch the end of the valve !
Carry out the self-cleaning operation (once a month or more
frequently in a hard water area)
• Unplug your iron, set the steam control to and fill the water tank to MAX.
• Place your iron on its heel, set the thermostat dial to MAX, plug in your iron and wait for the indicator light to go out.
• Unplug the iron and place it horizontally over a sink.
• Press the self-clean ejection button (fig.14a) and remove the anti-calc valve (fig.14b).
• Gently shake the iron over the sink until some of the water (along with impurities) runs out through the soleplate.
• At the end of the operation, put the anti-calc valve back in place and then plug in
6 • Maintenance and cleaning
your iron for 2 minutes on its heel to dry the soleplate.
To slow down scaling and prolong the life of your iron, carry out the self-cleaning operation once a month or more frequently in a hard water area.
Cleaning the soleplate
• Unplug the iron, and when the soleplate is just warm, wipe it with a soft cloth.
Never use abrasive or aggressive products.

You are using chemical descaling agents. You are not using the right type of water.
Fabric fibres have accumulated in the holes of the soleplate and are burning.
Your linen has not been rinsed sufficiently or you have ironed a new garment before washing it.
Do not add any descaling agents to the water in the water tank. Perform a self-cleaning operation and consult the section "What water to use?"
