Technomad: Not Just Another Plastic Loudspeaker
Technomad loudspeakers are often compared to the many other lines of plastic loudspeakers. Several important factors in the Technomad design and manufacturing process greatly distinguish Technomad from the growing field of plastic loudspeakers.
Design
Technomad loudspeakers are designed for higher performance and output applications than all other plastic loudspeakers available. Technomad also offers a wider range of features making Technomad loudspeakers the only choice for year-round, indoor, outdoor, permanent, semi-permanent or mobile applications. No other plastic loudspeaker can match Technomad in application, flexibility, fidelity durability, options, price and performance.
Manufacturing
Technomad enclosures are manufactured of military grade polyethylene and cast as an extremely rugged one piece unit. Our cabinet manufacturing process produces an incredibly uniform linear wall thickness of .5” with .75” thick corner areas. Technomad’s loudspeaker construction process sets our loudspeakers apart from all other plastic loudspeakers in two ways: The cabinet walls of most plastic loudspeakers are 25% to as much as 65% thinner than the cabinet walls of a Technomad loudspeaker. A Technomad loudspeaker cabinet is able to endure greater abuse than any other commercially available loudspeaker - regardless of construction materials and manufacturing methods. Also, a thicker cabinet wall has better acoustic properties than a thinner loudspeaker cabinet wall. The thicker cabinet wall prevents distortion and/or inefficiency problems due to wall flex. Technomad loudspeakers produce a full, articulate sound, comparable to the performance of a multi-ply Baltic birch cabinet.
Compliances/Specifications Met
Technomad self-casing loudspeakers are designed to meet and exceed ATA-III, and fully comply with United States Military Specification 810E. No other commercially available plastic or wood loudspeaker can make that claim.
Technomad polyethylene cabinets have many advantages over traditional wooden cabinets. Unlike wood, high quality recycled polyethylene is a renewable resource. Polyethylene is impervious to moisture, virtually all solvents, mold, mildew, and UV radiation. There is no waste in the Technomad cabinet manufacturing process. Because they are cast as one solid piece through a low stress manufacturing process, Technomad cabinets are extremely strong and do not splinter or crack when subjected to abuse.
Polyethylene Cabinets
Technomad carries a full line of high quality Mil-Spec trunk, briefcase and rack mount cases. Made to the same high standards as Technomad loudspeakers, these cases offer unmatched protection. Unlike injection molded cases, Technomad cases will hold up to years of abuse. Thirty percent lighter than traditional wood laminate and metal road cases, Technomad cases are also stronger and more resilient. There are three categories of Technomad cases.
Trunk Cases
Technomad offers a wide and diverse line of trunk style cases. Gray is the standard case color for trunk cases, but all other Technomad colors are available as special order items.
Call your local Technomad representative for a complete listing of sizes. There are three configurations of foam lining: bare with no foam, lined with 2” or 1” foam, or lined with 2” or 1” foam and filled with 1” or 2” layers of foam.
ProRack Cases
These rugged 19” rack cases are the best plastic rack case available. Unlike injection or vacuum molded plastic cases, Technomad ProRacks will stand up to almost any abuse. Available in 4U, 6U, and 8U sizes, ProRacks have the options of mounting brackets for removable legs and casters, rear rack rails, and catches and strikes to lock stacks of ProRacks together as one unit. Black is the standard case color for ProRacks, but all other Technomad colors are available as special order items.
Tote Briefcases
Technomad Tote briefcases provide quality protection for small items at an modest price. Available in 4 sizes, these lockable cases are waterproof to 100 feet. All sizes come filled with Hex-a-pluck foam which allow each case to be customized by the user. Black is the standard case color for Tote cases and no other colors are available.

Maintenance of Speaker Body
The Technomad polyethylene loudspeaker cabinet is a manufacturing breakthrough. The one-piece Technomad speaker cabinet provides a very rugged, watertight and scratch-resistant enclosure for transporting the high-quality sound reproduction electronics. Your Technomad speaker will need very little maintenance. If, after some time, you want to eliminate scratches that develop, follow these simple instructions:
Technomad Cabinet Refurbishment:
1. Thoroughly clean the surface of the speaker using warm water, a soft brush, and mild non-detergent soap.
2. Dry the loudspeaker.
3. Using a propane blowtorch, slowly fan the flame over the scratches you
need to repair. In a few seconds you will see the scratches disappear and the surface will become shiny as a thin film of plastic liquifies. Deep scratches may take longer to erase. IT IS POSSIBLE TO CHAR THE SPEAKER if the flame is kept on one area for too long. Constantly keep the flame in motion. Keep the flame away from the loudspeaker cones, compression drivers, foam grill covering, Neutrik jacks and other hardware. SPECIAL CARE IS NEEDED WHEN FLAME TREATING PARIS, and VIENNA LOUDSPEAKERS.
4. Allow the surface to completely cool for 15 or more minutes or until the treated area is cool and hard to the touch.
5. Buff the surface with a 3M™ Scotch-Brite pad, fine steel wool or other mild abrasive. This will bring the treated surface area back to the original factory finish.

Two lengths of 1.5” tubing are inserted into these sockets to angle the loudspeaker to the appropriate angle. The angle of the tilt can be adjusted through the use of different length tubing.
Flying
WARNING: Suspending any object is a potentially dangerous and should only be attempted by qualified individuals.
AS Series Technomad loudspeakers are equipped with flying points. The Noho C and Soho 12 loudspeakers are equipped with 4x 1/4-20 threaded inserts on the top and side. The Berlin 15/H, Cairo 15/C and Chicago 15/12 loudspeakers all feature 4x 3/8-16 threaded inserts on all sides. All flypoints are rated at 10:1. All flypoints allow the loudspeaker to be used in either the horizontal or vertical orientation. DO NOT SUSPEND THE LOUDSPEAKER FROM FEWER THAN TWO SUSPENSION POINTS!!! DO NOT HANG THE LOUDSPEAKER FROM THE HANDLE!!!
Bracket Mounting
Noho C and Soho 12 loudspeakers have 4 x 1/4-20 T-nut inserts molded into the back of the cabinet for use with a multi-position bracket. Berlin 15/H, Cairo 15/C, Chicago 15/12 loudspeakers all feature 4x 3/8-16 threaded inserts on the back of the cabinet for use with multi-position brackets.
Deployment- AS Series
1. No sound from speaker:
A) Make sure that the cabling you are using is wired correctly. The signal for the full range units must be wired to the “1” pair of contacts on the cable-mounted Neutrik Speak-On™. For the low frequency units, the Chicago 15/12 and the 15” LF driver of the Cairo 15/C, the signal must be connected to the “2” pair of contacts on the Speak-On. See page 7 for details.
B) Technomad loudspeakers are equipped with fuses for component protection. Check the fuses to ensure that they are still intact. The fuse holders are located on the bottom of the loudspeaker in the handle well on AS Series loudspeakers and on the back of the loudspeakers near the connectors on MP Series loudspeakers. See the separate fuse sheet included with this manual for proper fuse values.
2. Excessive Rattling:
If, at high volumes, pronounced rattling occurs double check that the latches holding the lid onto the rear of the cabinet are fully closed and locked. If they are not, the lid can vibrate against the back of the cabinet.

General Info
Technomad loudspeakers are highly modular and can be quickly and easily assembled into large arrays. Two different methods can be used.
Tour Model Loudspeakers
All AS Series loudspeakers feature 1.5” diameter sockets in the center of each side. These allow Tour Model loudspeakers to be easily stacked using the Stacking Tube Set. First, attach the lid to the back of the cabinet using the four backlatches. The lid increases the footprint of the stack, giving it greater stability. Once the lid has been attached, the speaker can now be stacked with any other Tour Model Technomad using one of the two lengths of tubing in the Stacking Tube Set. For vertically oriented loudspeakers, insert the longer tube in the top socket of the bottom speaker. Lift the second speaker to be stacked and place it on top of the bottom unit so that the tube goes into the corresponding socket. Horizontally oriented speakers can be stacked in the same way, using the shorter tube. Do not
stack more than two units high using this method!
Plug & Play Stacking System
Berlin 15/H, Cairo 15/C and Chicago 15/12 loudspeakers can be stacked into bigger arrays suitable for large venue sound reinforcement through the use of the Plug & Play Stacking System. These three models all have four 1.5” sockets molded into the back of the cabinet, one per corner. There are three basic elements to the Plug & Play system- the TwoPlug, the FourPlug, and the Base. All have ‘plugs’ which fit into these rear sockets, making assembly quick, easy and secure. In all Plug & Play stacked
arrays, the Base is needed at the bottom of the stack for added stability. If
you are deploying a stack more than two units high, the Base must be bolted to the floor. The TwoPlug con-
nects two loudspeakers together by plugging into one socket on each cabinet. A pair of TwoPlugs can used to make a simple stack of two units. For larger systems, the TwoPlug and the Base can be combined with the FourPlug to form arrays of speakers up to three units high and as many units wide as is necessary. As shown in the diagram, the FourPlug is used at the junction of four units to lock the entire stack together. The TwoPlug is used at the ends and the top of the stacks and the Base is used at the bottom of each stack. Detailed instructions are included with each set of Plug & Play Stacking Accessories.

MP Series
Technomad MP Series are designed to be installed in a wide variety of applications and environments. The MP Series includes the Vernal 15, Vienna 16 and the Paris 616 loudspeakers.
Stand Mounting
Paris and Vienna loudspeakers feature T-nuts on the bottom of the cabinet for attaching 3rd-party bolt-on standmount adapters.
Flying & Bracket Mounting
WARNING: Suspending any object is a potentially dangerous and should only be attempted by qualified individuals.
Paris and Vienna loudspeakers feature 5/16-18 T-nut inserts, one per side for use with U brackets for flying or wall mounting.
Multi-position wall mounts
Paris and Vienna loudspeakers feature 4 x 1/4-20 T-nut inserts on the center of the back of the cabinet for use with the Paris/Vienna bracket. This hole pattern is also compatible with APC and Omnimount products.
Transformers
MP Series loudspeakers are available with an optional transformer for use in 70 volt distributed systems. The multi-tap transformer is controlled with a 5 position switch. Starting from the position the farthest counter-clockwise the Vernal T settings are as follows: a bypass setting allowing the loudspeaker to operate in normal 8 ohm mode, then taps of 8w, 16w, 32w, and 64w at 70v. Starting from the position the farthest counter-clockwise the Vienna T and Paris T settings are as follows: a bypass setting allowing the loudspeaker to operate in normal 8 ohm mode, then taps of 16w, 32w, 64w, and 128w at 70v.
Deployment- MP Series
Each Technomad loudspeaker cabinet features locking, weather-resistant Neutrik Speak-On™ connectors. Neutrik jacks work with 2 conductor and 4 conductor wire. The Neutrik jacks have four internal connection points. One pair is marked 1 and the second pair is marked 2. When buying or making Neutrik-terminated cables to interface with Technomad speakers, it is important to observe the following:
1+/1- These are the in/out connections for full range units (Berlin 15/H, Noho C, HF/MF of the Cairo 15/C, Paris 616 and Vienna 16.) & the Soho 12 subwoofer. In other subwoofer units, this pair simply passes full range signal through the loudspeaker from one Speak-On™ to the other.
2+/2- These are the in/out connections for large subwoofer units (Chicago 15/12, LF driver of the Cairo 15/C) In full range units, this pair simply passes subwoofer signal from one Speak-On™ to the other.
The Soho 12 is a subwoofer, but it is wired to the “1” pair for ease of use. Featuring an internal passive crossover, the Soho can be run from the same signal as the Noho, reducing the number of cables & amp channels needed.
The signal pass-through feature allows multiple speakers to be driven by one amplifier. Each speaker can be daisy-chained from the previous unit. This simplifies the cabling required for any multiple unit system. Through use of a 4 conductor cable, two separate signals can be sent to the sys- tem from two separate amplifier channels. This feature allows the opera- tor to use a single cable to power both the full range and subwoofer speakers in an array. Because both signals are passed to each connector, subwoofer units and full range units can be run from the same cabling. As long as the proper connections are made to the appropriate amplifier channels (+1/-1 to the full range amplifier, +2/-2 to the subwoofer amplifi- er), cabling is quick and easy to set up.
Caution should be used when daisy-chaining multiple loudspeakers from a single amplifier. If the minimum load impedance for the amp is 4 ohms, a maximum of 1 subwoofer or 2 full-range loudspeakers should be connected in series. Remember, using four conductor wiring to connect two separate amplifiers to a full-range and subwoofer combination does not drop the load on the amplifiers - each amp is still seeing 8 or 4 ohms respectively. Only if speakers of the same type (full-range or subwoofer) are daisy- chained from the same amp is the load on the amp reduced. If a cable is over 20’ long, 12 gauge wire is highly recommend to prevent signal degra- dation.
