Opera tion an d displ ay General function
This energy-saving controller for radi ators can be used to co nt r ol ro om te mp er a tu re on th e b as i s o f ti m e. Th e a ct ua to r m o ve s a valve, thereby allowing the amount of heat flowing to the heating applianc e to be contro lled. The co ntroller is c ompatible with all st an dar d h ea tin g a ppl ia nc e va lve s. A wi re le ss r ec ei ver al low s t he device to receive commands from taught-in system components.
Insta llati on can be ac hieved in 3 easy st eps.
Step 1: Ins erti ng (repl acing) the bat teries
Remove the battery compartment • cover. Insert 2 new LR 6 batteries (Mignon/AA) • into the batter y compartment, ensuring they are the ri ght way round. Reattach the battery compartment • cover and cli ck into place.
New alkal ine batte ries have a life of app roximatel y two years. A battery symbol (
) will indicate when the batteries need to be re placed. After removi ng the old batter ies, please wait ap­proximatel y 1 minute before insertin g the new ones. This device does not sup port ope ration with recharg eable bat teries.
Never recha rge standard batte ries. Doing so will p resent a risk of explosi on.
Do not throw the b atterie s into a fire. Do not shor t-circuit b atteries.
Us ed bat te ri es s ho uld no t be di spo se d of wi th regular domestic waste. Instead, they should be taken to your l ocal batte ry disposal point .
Step 2: S etting the da te and time of day
The firmwar e version nu mber will be d isplayed br iefly once yo u have inser ted/replaced the b atteries and then you will be auto ­maticall y prompted to se t the date and tim e of day.
Use the arrow b uttons (B/D) to set • the year (A). Confirm wit h OK (C).• Use the arrow b uttons (B/D) to set • the month (A ). The motor wil l start mov ing back the control pi n while the entr ies are still being mad e.
If “ INS” is d isplayed with a rotating “•
” sy mbol, this indi­cates th at the motor i s still moving back. Once th e devic e is ready fo r the ac tuator to be inst alled on the va lve, just “INS” will appea r on the displa y.
The we ekly progr am and oth er settin gs ca n be custom -• ised prior to installation. To do this, press th e menu but ton
when “INS” is shown on the display. For further details, please see “4. Configura tion menu”. Once prog ramming is c omplete, “IN S” will reapp ear on the • display and i nstallat ion (Step 3) can c ommence.
When “IN S” is visi ble on the display, you ca n activate the teach-in function p rior to installation by pressing the button br iefly.
Step 3: I nstal ling th e energy -savin g contro ller
The actuator can be insta lled on all s tandard heating valves. There i s no ne ed to drain away water or fiddle around with t he heating syst em before doin g this. First, yo u need to remove the old thermo stat dial:
Turn the thermostat dia l anti- • clockwi se a s far a s it will go (A). Release the the rmal ring of the • thermos tat (B). Remove the thermos tat from the • valve (C).
An a dapter will need to be us ed in the case of certai n valves. Adapters for Danfoss valves (R A, RAV, RAVL) are included in the scope of deliver y. For det ails, please refer to the adapter ove rview (see 21).
The adapte r must be plac ed on • the valve and tu rned until i t is se­curely sea ted. In the case of th e RAV adapter, • the extensi on supplied must be attache d to the valve tappet. The RA and R AV adapters must, • in addition , be secure d by means of the bolt an d nut supplie d.
The energy-saving controller can only be insta lled if “INS” is s howing on the display. Fo llow­ing ins tallation, the actuator will per form an adju stment run so that it can adapt to the valve. During this process , “ADA” will be displaye d.
Place the act uator on the val ve.• Tighten the u nion nut.• “INS” will ap pear on the di splay, press the O K button.•
The actuator will perform an adjustment run (“ADA” w ill appear • on the displa y, operation not p ossible). After that , the actuator w ill be ready fo r operation ( Auto • mode).
If the adjustment ru n was initiated prior to insta llation, or if an erro r messag e will be displayed (F1, F2, F3); press OK to move the motor ba ck to the “INS” po sition.
1. Setti ng the weekly pr ogram
The wee kly pro gram allows t wo separ ate heating ph ases (fo ur switching times) to be set for each day of the week. T he pr o­grammed settings only apply to the selected days. Outside these ti mes t he a ctu ator red uce s th e tem per atu re to the s pe cifie d se t­back tempe rature (see 10).
Press and hol d down the M enu bu tton fo r long er than • 3 seconds . “PRO” appea rs on the display.• Confirm by pre ssing the OK button.• “DAY” appe ars on t he dis play. You can use t he ar row • buttons to select a single day of the week, all weekdays, the weekend, or the entire week (weekdays has been se­lected in th e example). Confirm you r selectio n by pressin g the OK button .• The first heati ng phase switching • time is displayed (6:00); you can change this time wit h the arrow buttons. He ating interva ls are also shown by mean s of bars. Confirm by pre ssing the OK button.• You the n need to set the te mpe-• rature that the r oom s hould be at from 6:00 onward s (21.0°C in the example). Confirm you r selectio n by pressin g the OK button .•
The end time for the first heat ing • interval is displaye d (9:0 0 in the example); you can change this time with the arr ow buttons. Confirm by pre ssing the OK button.•
Repeat thi s procedu re for the seco nd heating interval.• In auto mode (weekly program), the temperature ca n be changed at any time using the arrow bu ttons. T he modi­fied temp erature w ill then re main the same unt il the nex t point at whi ch the progr am changes .
2. Week ly progr am: Examples
The energy- saving contro ller allows you to store up to 2 heating periods (4 swi tching times) wi th individua l temperatu re setting s for each day of th e week. The factor y setting consists of two heating p hases (f rom 6:00 u ntil 9:00 a nd from 17:00 until 23:00 respect ively) for ever y single day of the week: From 00:00 to 06:00 17.0°C From 06:00 to 09:00 21.0°C From 09:00 to 17:00 17.0°C From 17:00 to 23:00 21.0°C From 23:00 to 23:59 17.0°C
The di splay s hows ba rs for every heati ng inter val. In this example, no bars ar e shown for the in terval from 0:00 to 6:00. Bar s are only shown on the display f or the in tervals from 6:00 to 9:0 0 and from 17:00 to 23:00.

3. Oper ating modes
To switch between the 3 operating modes described below, press the m enu button briefly (t hese oper ating mode s can only be selecte d following installati on/Step 3):

The configuration menu can be used to modify settings. To ac­cess this menu, press and hold down the menu button (for more than 3 seconds).

UNL: For teac hing out all ta ught-in wirel ess components • Use the arrow buttons to select menu items and the OK button to confirm your choice. Press the menu button again to return to the previous level. After 65 seconds without anything happening, the menu will close automatically.
5. Disp lay content dur ing normal ope ratio n
During normal operation, the following are displayed: heating periods, oper­ating m ode, tem perature setting and day of the week . The bars in dicating the we ekly pro ­gram’s heating pe riods for th e c urrent day. For an exa mple, please ref er to “2. Weekly p rogram: Ex amples”.
6. Teachin g in wirel ess componen ts
The actu ator supp ort s the t each ing i n of up to 4 sy stem comp o­nents (e.g. wind ow contact), plus 1 wall ther mostat.
Press the OK b utton for mo re than 3 seco nds.•
The remai ning teach- in time will be di splayed (30 se conds).•
The device being taught-in now needs to send a wireless •
signal.
After s uccessf ul teach- in, the te ach-in m ode ends automati-•
cal ly. Once this has been done, the actuator will respond to wireless command s from taugh t-in devices.
7. Teaching out wi reless compo nents
Compone nts th at have been ta ught in on the actua tor ca n be taught out again usi ng the “UNL” (Unlear n) function. All wirele ss compone nts are taug ht out at once wi th this function.
Press and ho ld down the menu button for more th an 3 sec-•
onds.
Use the arrow b uttons to select the “U NL” menu item.•
Confirm wit h OK.• “CFM” will app ear on the display; pres s OK to confirm.•
8. Oper ation with a wal l therm ostat
If the actuator is goi ng to be operated in con junction wit h a wall thermos tat, this thermostat will need to be taught in (see 6). Once it has be en tau gh t in , “ ECF ” wi ll app ea r on th e di sp lay . No fu rth er setting s can then be made on the ac tuator. Only teach- in mode can s till be a ctivate d by pre ssing an d holdi ng down t he OK but­ton for more th an 3 seconds . If no wireless si gnal i s rec eived f rom the wall thermostat for a period of 60 minutes, the actuator will exit ECF mode. It will then as su me c on tr ol o f th e t emp er at ure , w hic h i t wi ll con ti nu e to re gu­late in acco rdance wit h the weekly p rogram until the next w ire­less sign al is receive d. To “teach out” a wall thermostat, you must reinser t the batteries in the actuator (and wait for approx. 1 mi nute). On ce you have entered th e date and tim e of day, you can use t he menu but ton (b ef ore th e ad ju st men t r un i s i nit ia te d) t o pe r for m t he “ te ac h- out ” process a s described in sect ion 7.
9. Sett ing the holida y funct ion
If you want a fixed temperature to be maintained for a set period of time while you are on holiday or duri ng a party, you can make use of the Holi day functio n.
Press a nd release th e menu button repeate dly unti l the s uit-• case symbo l (
) appears on the disp lay. Use the arrow buttons to set the end of the time period dur ing • which the tem perature i s to be maintai ned. Press the OK b utton to confi rm.• Then use th e arrow butto ns to set the date.• Press the OK b utton to confi rm.• Us e t he a rr o w b u t to n s t o se t th e te m p er a t ur e ; p r e ss O K t o co n -• firm. The dis play will flas h to confirm your s ettings.
The set temper ature will remai n in force until the spec ified time. Af te r th at , t he a ct ua tor wi ll a do pt Aut o m od e. W ir el es s co mm an ds from the wind ow contact will continu e to be executed.
10. Comfor t and set-back te mperature s
The comfort/set-back temperature button (
) pr ov id es a n e asy and con venient way of sw itching b etween these two tempera­tures. The fac tory setting s are 21.0°C and 17.0°C resp ectively. To adapt them, proc eed as follows:
Press and hold down the comfort/set-back temperature but-• ton (
) for more than 3 second s.
The sun symbol ( •
) will appear on the disp lay along with the current c omfort tem perature. Use th e arrow buttons to modify the temperature; p ress OK • to confirm. The moon symbol ( •
) will appear to gether wi th the se t-back temperature. Use th e arrow buttons to modify the temperature; p ress OK • to confirm.
The temperatu re can even be modified in Auto mode at any time by usin g this button. The new setting will be re tained until the program’s nex t switching tim e.
11. Child-proof lock/Operating inhibit
Operati on can be inhib ited.
To activate/deactivate the operating inhibit, briefly press the • Menu and
buttons at t he same time. Once the fu nction is active, “LOC ” will appe ar on the disp lay.• To deactivate the fu nction, pre ss both but tons again.•
12. Set ting th e heati ng break
If the heating is being switched off for the summer, you can save ba tt er y po we r. T his inv ol ves op en ing th e va lve up ful ly. Li mes ca le protectio n measures rem ain in place. Wirele ss commands fr om the window co ntact will no l onger be exec uted. To activate this, pro ceed as fol lows:
In manual mode (Manu), press and hold the right arrow but ton • (increa se tempera ture) until “ON ” appears o n the display. To end, exit manu al mode (M anu) or pres s the left arrow bu t-• ton (decrea se tempera ture).
13. Sett ing frost prot ectio n mode
If you do not want the room to be heated, the valve can be closed. It wil l o nl y be op ene d a ga in i f t he re i s a r is k o f fr ee zi ng d ue to f ro st. Limesc ale protection m easures remai n in place. Wirele ss com­mands from t he window con tact will no lo nger be execu ted. To activate this, pro ceed as fol lows:
In manual mode (Manu), press and hold the left arrow button • (decreas e temperatu re) until “OFF” a ppears on t he display. To en d, exi t man ual m ode ( Man u) or p ress the r ight arro w but-• ton (increa se temperature).
14. “Wind ow open” functi on
If t he ro om is b ein g vent ilat ed, t he ac tuat or co ntro ls th e temp er­ature to save on he ating cost s. While this fu nction is ac tive, the “window ope n” symbol (
) appears on the disp lay. Without window contact: The ac tua to r wi ll a ut om ati ca ll y de te ct a significan t drop in tempera ture due to ventilati on. You can set your own “wind ow open” tempe rature and time. With ta ught-in window contac t: The temperatur e will only be reduced during the time th at the window is lef t open. You ca n set your own “wi ndow open” tem perature.
Press and ho ld down the menu button for more th an 3 sec-• onds. Use the arrow b uttons to select the “AER” me nu item.• Confirm wit h OK.• Use the arrow buttons to set the temperature /time. Then press • OK to confirm. Without a ta ught-in wind ow contact , this functi on can be de -• activated by s electing a ti me of “0”.
15. Sett ing the offse t tempe ratur e
The temperatur e is measured at the heating applian ce itself, with the result tha t other par ts of the room may be wa rmer or cold er than thi s. To allow for this, you can set a temperature of fset of ±3.5°C. If, for example, a temperature of 18°C is measured some­where with in the room ins tead of the 20°C s et, it means t hat an offset of -2.0 °C needs to be c onfigured.
Press the me nu button fo r more than 3 se conds.• Use the arrow b uttons to select the “TO F” menu item.• Confirm wit h OK.• Use the arrow b uttons to modify the te mperature .• Press the OK b utton to confi rm.•
16. Resto ring th e factor y settings
You can res et the a ctuator to its initial st ate manually. This will clear all th e settings t hat have been m ade manual ly.

17. Intended us e
The energy-saving controller has been de signed for the purpose of controlli ng a standard heating appliance valve. The device may only b e operated indoo rs and m ust be pr otected f rom the effects of damp and dust, as well as solar radiation and sourc­es of radian t heat. Using the dev ice fo r a purpose or in a manne r other tha n that describ ed in t his oper ating ma nual co nstitutes a breach of th e “intended use” and shall i nvalidate t he warra nty and any liabil­ity cla ims. The same sha ll apply in the eve nt of any c onversion or mod ification work. The devices are intended exclusively for domestic use.
