Hints
Make sure you lay the cable in a way that the danger of stumbling is
avoided. Never hold or carry the device by the power cable. Do not
clamp or damage the power cable. Ensure that the power adapter do not
come into contact with water, steam or other liquids. You have to check
the complete construction at regular intervals for functionality, tightness
and damage to prevent the defect of the device. Only use the product for
purposes due to its intended function & only for household use. Do not
damage the product. Following cases may damage the product: Incorrect
voltage, accidents (including liquid or moisture), misuse or abuse of the
product, faulty or improper installation, mains supply problems including
power spikes or lightning damage, infestation by insects, tampering or
modification of the product by persons other than authorized service
personnel, exposure to abnormally corrosive materials, insertion of foreign
objects into the unit, used with accessories not preapproved. Refer to
and heed all warnings and precautions in the user manual.
Safety instructions
Never touch the device with wet or damp hands.
The device can only be operated with the voltage described on the rear
panel and on the power supply unit.
Do not position this device near moisture or water.
Do not place the device on an unstable surface. The unit could be
damaged or persons could be injured. Any attachments should be made
only in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions or obtained from
the manufacturer.
The cable is sheathed and insulates the current. Do not place any objects
on the cable, as this could cause the protective function to be lost. Avoid
placing excessive stress on the cable, especially at sockets and plugs.
If you want to pull the plug out of the socket, always pull on the plug and
not on the cable. The cable could otherwise break.
To protect the unit during a lightning storm or when it is left unattended
for long periods of time: unplug it from the wall outlet. This will prevent
damage due to lightning strikes.
Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or other wiring as this may
result in fire or electric shock.
Do not insert any objects into the openings of the unit, as current flows
in some places and contact may cause fire or electric shock.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet for cleaning.
Do not use liquid cleaners or cleaning sprays. The device may only be
cleaned with a damp cloth.

Do not connect any additional devices that are not recommended by the
manufacturer.
The openings of the housing are used for ventilation so that the device
does not overheat. These must always be kept free.
Warnings
Do not disassemble the TX-178, it may result in short-circuit or damage.
Battery warning: Improper use of the battery may cause fire or chemical
burns. The battery may explode in case of damage. When the device
works under AUX–IN mode, do not (!) increase the volume of your mobile
phone, PC, MP3/MP4 Player, CD, DVD etc. to a large extend; a sonic boom
or sound distortion may occur. In that case, decrease volume either of
mobile phone, PC, MP3/MP4 Player, CD, DVD or device. The sound gets
normal soon. Do not modify, repair or remove without professional
guidance. Do not use corrosive or volatile liquid for cleaning. Do not
drop or shake the TX-178, it may break internal circuit boards or
mechanics. Keep the TX-178 in dry and ventilated environment. Avoid
high humidity and high temperature. This TX-178 is not water-resistant;
keep it away from moisture. Keep the device away from little children.

(15) on the remote. The searched stations will automatically be stored in
preset station list. To switch between the stored stations press the /
buttons.
Alternatively, you can set the FM radio stations manually. Press or

FM station. Each step moves 0.05MHz.
It is faster to find a FM radio station by pressing and holding or button
on the device or using the or button of remote control to auto search
the next FM station or just press SCAN (5) on the remote control. The
frequency display starts to run up as TX-178 scans the FM band. It stops
when it has received a station. You may press or on device or remote
control to tune station manually.
Press and hold the PRESET (4) button on the remote control or the
MEMORY (8) button on the device to save the station.
You can save up to 20 station. Press PRESET, then pressoron the
remote control or press MEMORY button on the device to recall the saved
station. Rotate the Knob (12) to choose the desired radio station.
In the Preset list you can change the order of the saved FM radio stations.

DAB/DAB+
Choose DAB/DAB+ mode from the main menu and confirm with Enter.
DAB/DAB+ radio mode receives digital radio from the DAB+ band.
For better reception, remove the telescopic antenna (14) from the holder
on the back of the device and pull it out completely.
The display will show DAB in the top left corner. First time entering the
mode the device will automatically scan for DAB+ radio stations. After the
scan has finished the radio stations are saved.
NOTE: The order of the found radio stations cannot be changed. You can
only add your desired radio stations to the preset list for faster access.
To listen to the stored DAB+ radio stations, use either the Knob (12) on the
device or either orbuttons on the remote control to cycle through the
stations. When you reach the desired station press the ENTER button on
the remote control or the Knob (12) on the device to begin playback of that
station.
DAB quick scan:
Press the Scan button (5) on the remote control to start the scan. You are
asked “Delete station list?” Answer with yes if you want the current list to
be replaced, answer with No if you want to just want to scan for additional
or new radio stations and answer with ESC if you want to cancel the quick
scan. Choosing Yes or No causes the scan to start.
NOTE: If you are playing a radio station from the preset list you are not
able to use the scan function by pressing the Scan button (5) on the remote.
You need to use the button until in the left bottom corner you see Scan.
Preset Recall:
Press and hold the PRESET button on the remote control or the MEMORY
button on the device to save the station. The symbol appears in the top
line of the display while the device is saving. Confirm the save with the
Enter button. You can save up to 20 stations. Press PRESET, then press
oron the remote control or press MEMORY button on the device and
use the Knob (12) to recall a saved station.

CD
Remove the paper protection Disk from the CD compartment before

Open the CD door by pressing on the corner which is marked with “OPEN”.
Insert a CD disc into the CD compartment. Slightly press the CD down in
the middle to fix it. Close the CD door.
Choose CD mode from the main menu and confirm with Enter. The TX-178
automatically starts reading the inserted CD. IF the CD has the correct
format the TX-178 starts the playback of the CD.
CD operation:
Press button on device or the remote control to start play.
Press button on device or on the remote control to pause.
Press button on the device (12) or on the remote control to stop play.
Press or/orbutton on the remote to skip backward or forward to the
desired track.
Rotate the Knob (12) on the device or press V- or V+ button on the remote
control to turn the volume down or up.
AUX
Choose AUX mode from the main menu and confirm with Enter. To adjust
the volume, rotate the Knob (12) and volume buttons on the external device
and on the TX-178.
You can play music directly from a device connected via an AUX cable.
Plug one end of 3.5mm AUX–IN cable into AUX–IN connector (15) and the
other end into AUX-OUT (Headphone jack) connector of MP3 Player,
Smartphone, PC or CD player to listen to music.
NOTE: Under AUX mode, only vol–/vol+work. By pressing Mute button (2)
on the remote you can mute the TX-178 but the song plays along, because
it is coming from an external device. Switch songs on the external device
in AUX-mode.

Bluetooth
Choose Bluetooth mode from the Main menu and confirm with Enter.
Make sure that no other Bluetooth device is connected to the radio.
“Bluetooth Disconnected" will appear on the display.
Activate Bluetooth mode on the device that you want to connect. Look for
The radio on the list of detected devices on the Bluetooth device (refer to
the instruction manual of the device). Once the devices have found each
other, the radio will appear as “Technaxx TX-178“ on the Bluetooth device.
Select Technaxx TX-178 from the list. If you are required to enter a PIN
code, enter 0000 (four zeros). Certain devices may also require you to
approve the connection.
Once the connection has been successful, “Bluetooth Connected” will
appear on the display of the radio. Start playback on your Bluetooth device.
Control the playback from the Bluetooth device or from the TX-178 using
the Vol+/Vol- on the TX-178 and remote control. Adjust the volume both on
the Bluetooth device and the TX-178.
NOTE: Activate the Bluetooth feature on the phone and set the phone to
search for Bluetooth devices. Check the user guide of your phone for
instructions.
Auto reconnection:
When the TX-178 is in off state, switch it on and it will reconnect
automatically to the last connected device if it is reachable.
Further modes that could be enabled
You can enable the following modes to be seen in the Main menu by going
to Configuration Menu. Here you find the below disabled modes.
Local Radio
There is a shortcut Local Radio so that you can easily go to the station list
of your location.
The device can use the IP address to detect its current location and can
then automatically generate a list of local radio stations. However, you can
also enter a different country.

Sleep Radio
If you have set up shared media, you should see
the shared media form
If you have more than one computer sharing
media, the alternatives are listed. SELECT the
shared media you want to play. After that chose
the desired folder with the music files and start
playback.
NOTE: Videos or pictures cannot be shown on
the TX-178.

Under Podcast you can check for podcasts you like and play them back

My Favorite: Here you can save your favorite episodes of the podcast.
NOTE: It is not possible to save your podcast artist as favorite!
Country/Location: Podcasts are sorted by Country.
Genre: Podcasts are sorted by Genre.
History: Find the last heard podcasts.
Search: Here you can download the free App AirMusic, by scanning the
QR-code from the display. With that App you can use your Smartphone as
remote for the TX-178 when TX-178 and Smartphone with installed App
are in the same network.

UPnP mode, check whether media streaming is enabled under Windows.

rename the file.
However, if the track is still unable to play, you can try converting the file to
MP3 or WMA format.
Media Center
The Media Center mode combines the Podcast, USB and UPnP modes to
have less shortcuts in the Main menu. To get information for each mode go
through the manual and check each point.
Timer
Set a timer by using the arrow buttons on the device or the remote. Start
the set timer by pressing Enter button. Stop the timer by pressing Enter.
Stop the alarm by pressing any key on remote or device.
Maximal timer setting is 99:59min, minimal timer is 00:01min
Alarm
Alarm1: Set the Alarm on/off. After that set Repeat (Everyday, Once, Mon,
Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun), Time (HH:MM) and Sound (Beep, Melody,
Internet Radio, FM, DAB/DAB+, USB, CD).
Alarm2: Set the Alarm on/off. After that set Repeat (Everyday, Once, Mon,
Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun), Time (HH:MM) and Sound (Beep, Melody,
Internet Radio, FM, DAB/DAB+, USB, CD).
NAP Alarm: Set a time between 5-120min to automatically set the TX-178
into standby mode. To stop the alarm press Enter to Snooze it for further
5minutes or press the button to turn the alarm off.
Alarm Volume: Set the volume of the used alarm sound between 5 and 30.

Set the wireless configuration manually. You can choose DHPC (IP
assigned automatically) or manually input IP address for wireless network
connection.
After that set the SSID choose the encryption code to connect the WIFI.
If the wireless network connection is not existed or failed, the icon at the
top left corner will have a cross on it.

Setup PIN for APP:
Enable the PIN for App to secure the access to the TX-178. The App asks
you to enter the shown PIN shown on the TX-178. When the function is
disabled everyone with the App in the same WiFi network can control the
TX-178.
Date & Time
The date and time settings can only be made if the Internet radio is
connected to a wireless network.

NOTE: The alarm source is from the favorite internet radio stations if Alarm
Sound is set to be Internet Radio/FM/DAB. It Can only set one same
IR/DAB/FM station for Alarm 1 and Alarm 2. When it reaches the alarm
time, if set the alarm source is internet Radio, the unit connects to the
internet if the set network is available. Therefore, there may be some delay
from the alarm to the radio play. If no network is connection in one minute,
the alarm will change to melody automatically.
NAP Alarm: Set a time between 5-120min to automatically set the TX-178
into standby mode. To stop the alarm press Enter to Snooze it for further
5minutes or press the button to turn the alarm off.
Alarm Volume: Set the volume of the used alarm sound between 5 and 30.
NOTE: When the alarm(s) is /are set, there will be a clock icon at the bottom
of the display. The clock icon with alarm time will also clearly display on the
standby mode screen.
Timer
Set a timer by using the arrow buttons on the device or the remote. Start
the set timer by pressing Enter button. Stop the timer by pressing Enter.
Stop the alarm by pressing any key on remote or device.
Maximal timer setting is 99:59min, minimal timer is 00:01min
- Sound: Choose the mode Internet Radio, FM or DAB/DAB+. Then choose
a radio station from your favorites/presets that will be played.

or tablet. As soon as the devices are connected with the WiFi, the same
menu structure shown on the internet radio will appear on the smart

selected functions / menu items shown on the radio will change according
to the actions taken on your mobile device.
If you are controlling the internet radio via App, a UPnP connection to
Windows Media Player may not be possible.
