The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol, within an
equilateral triangle, is intended to alert the user to the
presence of uninsulated “dangerous voltage” within the
product’s enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude
to constitute a risk of electric shock to persons.

The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is
intended to alert the user to the presence of important
operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the
literature accompanying the appliance.

o Do not expose this apparatus to drips or splashes.
o Do not place any objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the

apparatus.

o The apparatus draws nominal non-operating power from the

AC outlet with its POWER or STANDBY/ON switch not in the ON
position.

device shall remain readily operable.

Read this before attempting any operations.

Placement of the unit

This unit is heavy. Take care to prevent injuries when lifting and

installing it.

o High-quality tool steel is used for the spike feet, securely attached

to the bottom of the unit. Although the outer feet may appear
loose, the weight of the unit causes them to become firm and
secure. The design effectively damps and reduces vibration.

To protect the supporting furniture surface, you may stick the
supplied felt pads to the bottom of the protection feet.

o Place the unit in a stable location near the audio system that you

will use.

Power plug support bracket

The power plug support bracket is supplied for ensuring the
connection of a heavy power cord such as ESOTERIC Power Cable
7N-PC7300 MEXCEL and 6N-PC5300 by supporting their plug.

Attach the bracket and adjust its position according to the size of
the plug of the power cable, and then fix it firmly with the supplied
screws.

CAUTION

o Do not place any objects on this unit.

o Do not cover this unit with a cloth.

o Choose the installation location of your unit carefully. Avoid placing

it in direct sunlight or close to a source of heat. Also avoid locations
subject to vibrations and excessive dust, heat, cold or moisture.

o As the unit may become warm during operation, always leave

sufficient space around the unit for ventilation.

Make sure there is at least 8” (20 cm) of space above and at least 2”

(5 cm) of space on each side of the unit.

When you install the unit in a rack, use one which has ventlations

and take care of temperature of the unit.

o Do not place this unit on a thick carpet.

o Do not place this unit on its side or upside down.

o When the unit is turned on, switching on the TV may cause lines

to appear on the TV screen, depending on the condition of the
electric waves of the TV broadcast. This is not malfunction in the
unit or the TV. If you see such lines, keep this unit well away from
the TV set.

o The voltage supplied to the unit should match the voltage as

printed on the rear panel. If you are in any doubt regarding this
matter, consult an electrician.

o Do not open the cabinet as this might result in damage to the

circuitry or cause electric shock. If a foreign object should get into
the unit, contact your dealer or service company.

o When removing the power plug from the wall outlet, always pull

directly on the plug, never yank on the cord.

Maintenance

If the surface of the unit gets dirty, wipe it with a soft cloth or
use diluted mild liquid soap. Allow the surface of the unit to dry
completely before using.

For your safety, disconnect the power cord from the wall socket

before cleaning.

o Never spray liquid directly on this unit.

o Do not use thinner or alcohol as they could damage the surface of

the unit.

o Avoid allowing rubber or plastic materials to touch this product for

long periods of time. It could damage the cabinet.

POWER button

A

Press this button to turn the unit on and off.
See steps on page 11 for turning on and off the audio system
including this unit.

SPEAKER terminals

WARNING:
Be careful when connecting to these terminals which may have
hazardous voltages on them during operation.

When you turn the unit on, the blue indicator around the button
blinks and no sound comes out for a few seconds. Wait until the
indicator stops blinking.

o When the protection circuit is activated, the indicator around the

POWER button will continue to blink and no sound will come out.
If this occurs, check the items on page 12 “Protection Circuit”.

o Because this unit is equipped with a high capacity transformer

and capacitor, sound may occur from the power transformer
when you turn it on. This is not malfunction in the unit.

o After turning the unit off, wait at least 2 seconds before turning it

on again in order to prevent malfunction.

o Turn off the power when not using this unit.

Power cord receptacle

Connect the power cord to the power cord receptacle.
After all other connections are complete, connect the power
cord’s plug to the AC wall socket.

Do not use any power cords other than the one included

with this unit or a power cord specified by ESOTERIC. Use of
other power cords may result in fire or cause electric shock.

Connect these terminals to the speaker's terminals using
commercially available speaker cables.
See “Speaker Connections” on the next page, and “Connection
examples” on pages 9 and 10.

XLR input terminals

Connect these ter minals to the o utput terminals of the
preamplifier using commercially available XLR balanced audio
cables.
See “Connection examples” on pages 9 and 10.

o Slide the INPUT SELECTOR switch to “XLR” when you use these

terminals.

o When connecting the XLR plug to the terminal connector, push it

in until the lever of the connector clicks. When disconnecting the
XLR plug, pull it out while pushing the lever.

o The pin assignment of the XLR input terminals is #2 HOT. Use the

corresponding cables for correct polarity.

RCA input terminals

Connect these ter minals to the o utput terminals of the
preamplifier using commercially available RCA audio cables.
See “Connection examples” on pages 9 and 10.

INPUT SELECTOR switch

Use this switch to change the input between RCA and XLR.

Do not change the input while the unit is on. Doing so may

cause sudden loud noise and damage to speakers as well as
harm hearing.

OUTPUT MODE switch

D

Select “STEREO” when you use this unit as a stereo power
amplifier.
Select “BTL (Bridged Transformer Less)” when you use this unit as
a monaural power amplifier.

o You cannot connect the speakers for the both “STEREO” and “BTL”

modes at the same time. When you want to change the mode,
follow the steps below.

1 Turn the unit off, and then disconnect the speakers from the

unit.

2 Change the mode by sliding the OUTPUT MODE switch.
3 Connect the unit to the speakers, and then turn the unit on.

Do not change the output mode while the unit is on. Doing

so may cause serious damage to the unit and the speakers.

Make sure to connect:

White plug e White jack (L: left channel)

Red plug e Red jack (R: right channel)

o Slide the INPUT SELECTOR switch to “RCA” when you use these

terminals.

GND terminal [SIGNAL GND]

Connection of this terminal with the ground terminal of another
chassis may improve sound quality.

o Note that this is NOT an electrical safety ground (earth).

ESOTERIC uses ESOTERIC MEXCEL stress-free cable as a
reference. The following items are available in the ESOTERIC
MEXCEL cable series.

Speaker Connections

13.5mm (1/2˝) or less

6mm (1/4˝) or more

Connect the speakers to the SPEAKER terminals using commercially
available speaker cables.

Before making or changing connections, disconnect the power

cord plug from the wall socket.

o Connect 4Ω or higher impedance speakers when you set the

OUTPUT MODE switch to “STEREO”.

Connect 8Ω or higher impedance speakers when you set the

OUTPUT MODE switch to “BTL”.

o Do not connect two or more amplifiers to one speaker.

o The metal portions of the two separate wires should not touch or

an electrical short can occur. Shorted wires can create a fire hazard
or induce a failure in the unit.

o To prevent hum and noise, do not bundle the speaker cables

together with the power cord.

Speaker cables

o Use the shortest speaker cables possible. As cables become longer,

electrical resistance increases and damping characteristics are
reduced. Moreover, inductance and capacitance also increase,
degrading the quality of high frequency sounds.

How to connect

Be sure to connect each plug securely.

Using speaker cables with bare wire

Turn the terminal cap counterclockwise to loosen it. Insert the bare
wire end properly into the terminal hole, and then tighten the
terminal cap.

o Do not insert the insulation coating into the terminal hole. Insert

only bare wire.

o The thickness of wires should be 4 mm (1/8˝) or less.
o Make sure it is fastened securely by pulling the cable lightly.

Using speaker cables with spades

Turn the terminal cap counterclockwise to loosen it. Insert the
spade into the terminal, and then tighten the terminal cap.

o The left and right speaker cables should be the same length.

o Generally, the ¥ side of the speaker cable is marked to make it

distinguishable from the ^ side of the cable.

Connections when using the unit as a stereo
power amplifier (page 9)

Connect the left channel of the SPEAKER terminals to the left speaker,
and the right channel of the SPEAKER terminals to the right speaker.

Make sure to connect:

Using ¥ side of the speaker cable

^ SPEAKER terminal e ^ terminal of the speaker

Using ^ side of the speaker cable

o Also make sure to slide the OUTPUT MODE switch to “STEREO”.

Connections when using the unit as a
monaural power amplifier (page 10)

Connect the BTL ( + and – ) terminals to the speaker.

o The inside diameter of spades should be 6 mm (1/4˝) or more

and outside diameter of spades should be 13.5 mm (1/2˝) or less.

o Make sure it is fastened securely by pulling the cable lightly.

Using speaker cables with banana plugs

With the terminal cap tightened, insert the plug into the jack on
the end of the cap.

Make sure to connect:

o Slide the OUTPUT MODE switch to “BTL”.

o Connect the BTL (XLR L or RCA L) terminal to the preamplifer’s

output terminal (left or right).

o Read the instructions supplied with the banana plug.

For European customers

In accordance with European safety regulations, it is not possible
to connect banana plugs into the speaker terminals on European
models. The holes into which banana plugs are inserted have
been covered with black caps. Connect the speakers using spades
or bare wires. If the black caps become separated from the
terminals, return them to their original position.

This is an example of using this unit
as a monaural power amplier of the

Connect the BTL (XLR L or RCA L)
terminal to the preamplifer’s terminal
that outputs the channel you want.

securely (see page 8).

A loose cable connection may cause the bare wires or
the spade terminal to come in contact with other
metallic parts or the unit's enclosure.
This may cause an electrical spark, and result in a failures
of the unit, electric shock or burn injuries.

Be aware that every SPEAKER terminals carry electric
voltage even when you set the OUTPUT MODE switch to
“BTL” .

Turning On and Off the Audio System

Follow these steps when you turns on and off the audio system
including this unit.

Failure to follow these steps may cause sudden loud noise and

damage to speakers as well as harm hearing.

Turning on the audio system

Turn the volume of the preamplifier to the minimum.

Turn on the power of the connected input source devices.

Turn on the preamplifier.

Press the POWER button to turn on the A-02.

Turning off the audio system

Stop the playback of the connected component.

Turn the volume of the preamplifier to the minimum.

Press the POWER button to turn off the A-02.

Turn off the preamplifier.

The blue indicator around the button blinks and no sound
comes out for a few seconds. Wait until the indicator stops
blinking, and then adjust the volume of the preamplifier.

Turn off the power of the connected input source devices.

Troubleshooting

If you experience any problems with the unit, please take a moment
to look through this chart and see if you can solve the problem
yourself before you call your dealer or ESOTERIC customer service/
technical support.
Moreover, the problem might be caused by something other than this
unit. Confirm that connected devices are also being used properly.

No power.

e Check the connection to the AC power source. Check and

make sure the AC source is not a switched outlet and if it is, the
switch is turned on. Make sure there is power to the AC outlet by
plugging another item such as a lamp or a fan.

There is no sound or only a very low-level sound is heard.

e Press the POWER button to turn the unit on.
e Check the operation of the preamplifier. When turning on the

preamplifier, turn off the A-02 first.

e Check that the speakers, preamplifier and components are

connected properly.

e Set the input and output setting of the preamplifier properly.
e Check the connections of the preamplifier. Make sure that the

audio signal is output correctly.

e Check if the INPUT SELECTOR switch is set properly.
e Adjust the preamplifier volume.

Protection Circuit

This unit has a built-in protection circuit. This protection circuit
consists of a thermal overload protection circuit, an overcurrent
protection circuit and a DC output protection circuit.

When the indicator around the POWER button continues to
blink blue, there may be a ¥/^ short in a speaker cable. Turn
the unit off, and then check the cables.

When the indicator around the POWER button continues to
blink blue and purple, the temperature inside the unit may be
too hot. Turn the unit off, and wait to let it cool down.

If the protection circuit continues to be activated, please
contact your dealer or an authorized ESOTERIC service center.

Indicator around the POWER button continues to blink blue.

e The protection circuit is activated. There may be a ¥/^ short in

a speaker cable. Turn the unit off, and then check the cables.

Indicator around the POWER button continues to blink blue
and purple.

e The protection circuit is activated. The temperature inside the

unit may be too hot. Turn the unit off, and wait to let it cool
down.

Sound is unstable.

e Check the polarity (¥/^) of the speaker cable. It may be

reversed.

Since this device uses a microcontroller, external noise and
other interference can cause the unit to malfunction. If this
occurs, turn the power off and restart operations after waiting
for about one minute.

Lisez ce qui suit avant d’utiliser l’appareil.

Emplacement de l'appareil

Cette unité est lourde. Veillez à ne pas vous blesser en la soulevant

et en l'installant.

o De l'acier d'outillage de grande qualité est utilisé pour les pieds

à pointeau, attachés solidement sur le dessous de l'unité. Bien
que les pieds extérieurs puissent sembler desserrés, le poids de
l'unité les rend fermes et sûrs. Cette conception amortit et réduit
efficacement la vibration.

Pour protéger la surface du meuble support, vous pouvez coller les
patins en feutre sous les pieds de protection.

o Placez l'unité sur une surface stable près du système audio que

vous allez utiliser.

Plateau de soutien de fiche d'alimentation

Le plateau de soutien de fiche d'alimentation est fourni pour assurer
la connexion d'un cordon d'alimentation lourd comme les câbles
d'alimentation ESOTERIC 7N-PC7300 MEXCEL et 6N-PC5300 en
soutenant leur fiche.

Montez le plateau et réglez sa position en fonction de la taille de la
fiche du câble d'alimentation, puis fixez-le fermement à l'aide des
vis fournies.

ATTENTION

o Ne placez aucun objet sur cette unité.

o Ne recouvrez pas cette unité d'un tissu.

FRANÇAIS

o Choisissez soigneusement l'emplacement de votre unité Évitez

de l’exposer directement aux rayons solaires ou à une source
de chaleur. Évitez aussi les endroits sujets aux vibrations, à une
poussière excessive, à la chaleur, au froid et à l’humidité.

o Il est possible que l’unité chauffe durant l’utilisation, laissez donc

toujours un espace suffisant autour d'elle pour la ventilation.

Assurez-vous qu’il y ait un espace d’au moins 20 cm au dessus de

l’unité et d’au moins 5 cm de chaque côté.

Si vous installez l'unité dans un rack, utilisez un modèle avec

ventilations et surveillez la température de l'unité.

o Ne placez pas cette unité sur une moquette épaisse.

o Ne posez pas cette unité sur son côté ou à l'envers.

o Quand l’unité est allumée, mettre en service un téléviseur peut

entraîner l’apparition de lignes sur l’écran de celui-ci, en fonction
des ondes électriques de la diffusion TV. Ce n’est pas un mauvais
fonctionnement de l’unité ni du téléviseur. Si vous voyez de telles
lignes, éloignez l'unité du téléviseur.

o La tension d’alimentation fournie à l'unité doit correspondre à la

tension imprimée sur sa face arrière. Si vous avez des doutes à ce
sujet, consultez un électricien.

o N’ouvrez pas le boîtier car cela peut endommager le circuit ou

causer un choc électrique. Si un objet étranger pénètre dans
l’unité, consultez votre revendeur ou le service après-vente.

o Quand vous débranchez le cordon d'alimentation de la prise

secteur, tirez toujours sur la prise, jamais sur le cordon.

Entretien

Si la surface de l'unité est sale, essuyez-la avec un chiffon doux ou
utilisez un détergent liquide léger dilué. Laissez la surface de l'unité
sécher complètement avant utilisation.

Pour votre sécurité, débranchez le cordon d'alimentation de la

prise secteur avant tout nettoyage.

o Ne vaporisez jamais du liquide directement sur cette unité.

o N’utilisez pas de diluant ni d'alcool car ils peuvent endommager la

surface de l’unité.

o Évitez un contact prolongé de l'unité ave c des matériaux

caoutchouteux ou plastiques car ceux-ci peuvent endommager le
boîtier. Cela pourrait endommager le boîtier.

Touche POWER

Appuyez sur cette touche pour allumer et éteindre l’unité.
Voir page 21 les étapes à suivre pour allumer et éteindre le
système audio incluant cette unité.

Quand vous allumez l'unité, le voyant bleu entourant la touche
clignote et aucun son ne sor t durant quelques secondes.
Attendez que le voyant cesse de clignoter.

o Quand le circuit de protection est activé, le voyant entourant la

touche POWER continue de clignoter et aucun son ne sort. Si
cela se produit, vérifiez les points de “Circuit de protection” en
page 22.

o Comme cette unité est équipée d'un transformateur et d'un

condensateur à haute capacité, du son peut être produit par le
transformateur de puissance à la mise sous tension. Ce n’est pas
un mauvais fonctionnement de l’unité.

o Après extinction de l'unité, attendez au moins 2 secondes avant

de la rallumer afin d'éviter tout mauvais fonctionnement.

o Coupez l'alimentation quand vous n'utilisez pas cette unité.

Faites attention quand vous raccordez ces prises qui, en
fo nctionnement, peuvent être por teu s e s d e tensions
dangereuses.

Raccordez ces borniers à ceux des enceintes à l'aide de câbles
d'enceinte du commerce.
Voir “Raccordement des enceintes” en page suivante, et
“Exemples de connexion” en pages 19 et 20.

Prises d'entrée XLR

Reliez ces prises aux prises de sortie du préamplificateur à l'aide
de câbles audio XLR symétriques du commerce.
Voir “Exemples de connexion” en pages 19 et 20.

o Quand vous utilisez ces prises, faites glisser le commutateur

INPUT SELECTOR sur “XLR”.

o Quand vous branchez la fiche XLR à la prise, enfoncez-la jusqu'à

ce que le loquet de la prise clique. Pour débrancher la fiche XLR,
tirez-la en appuyant sur le loquet.

Branchez le cordon d'alimentation à son embase.
Une fois tous les autres branchements terminés, branchez la fiche
du cordon d'alimentation dans une prise secteur.

N'employez aucun autre cordon d'alimentation que celui

fourni avec cette unité ou un cordon d'alimentation spécifié
par ESOTERIC. L’utilisation d’autres cordons d’alimentation
peut entraîner un incendie ou un choc électrique.

Utilisez ce sélecteur pour choisir l'entrée entre RCA et XLR.

Ne changez pas d'entrée si l'unité est sous tension.

Cela pourrait causer un bruit for t et soudain risquant

Sélectionnez “STEREO” si vous utilisez cette unité comme un
amplificateur de puissance stéréo.

Utilisez des câbles correspondant pour une polarité correcte.

Borne de masse [SIGNAL GND]

Le raccordement de cette borne à la borne de masse d'un autre
châssis peut améliorer la qualité sonore.

o Notez que ce n'est PAS une terre de sécurité électrique.

o Vous ne pouvez pas brancher les enceintes à la fois pour le mode

“STEREO” et pour le mode “BTL”. Si vous voulez changer de mode,
suivez les étapes ci-dessous.

1 Éteignez l'unité et débranchez les enceintes de l'unité.
2 Changez de mode en faisant glisser le commutateur OUTPUT

MODE.

3 Branchez les enceintes à l'unité et allumez cette dernière.

Ne changez pas le mode de sortie si l'unité est sous tension.

Cela pourrait causer de sérieux dommages à l'unité et aux
enceintes.

Raccordement des enceintes

13,5mm ou moins

6mm ou plus

Raccordez les enceintes aux borniers SPEAKER à l'aide de câbles
d'enceinte du commerce.

Avant de faire ou de changer des branchements, débranchez la

fiche d'alimentation de la prise secteur.

o Branchez des enceintes de 4 Ω ou plus d'impédance si vous avez

réglé le commutateur OUTPUT MODE sur “STEREO”.

Branchez des enceintes de 8 Ω ou plus d'impédance si vous avez

réglé le commutateur OUTPUT MODE sur “BTL”.

o Ne branchez pas plusieurs amplificateurs à une même enceinte.

o Les parties métalliques de deux fils différents ne doivent jamais

se toucher pour éviter tout risque de court-circuit. Des fils court­circuités peuvent créer un risque d’incendie ou entraîner une
panne de l'unité.

o Pour éviter tout ronflement ou bruit parasite, ne regroupez pas les

câbles d'enceinte avec le cordon d’alimentation.

Câbles d'enceinte

o

Utilisez les câbles d'enceinte les plus courts possibles. Avec
la longueur des câbles, la résistance électrique s'accroît et
l'amortissement diminue. Qui plus est, inductance et capacitance
augmentent aussi, dégradant la qualité des sons de haute fréquence.

Comment brancher

Assurez-vous que chaque fiche est bien enfoncée.

Emploi de câbles d'enceinte dénudés

Dévissez le capuchon du bornier en le tournant dans le sens anti­horaire. Insérez correctement l'extrémité nue du fil dans le trou du
bornier, puis revissez le capuchon du bornier.

o N'insérez pas la gaine isolante dans le trou du bornier. N'insérez

qu'un fil nu.

o L'épaisseur des fils doit être d'au moins 4 mm.
o Assurez-vous que le câble est fixé solidement en tirant

légèrement dessus.

Emploi de câbles d'enceinte avec cosses à fourche

Dévissez le capuchon du bornier en le tournant dans le sens
anti-horaire. Insérez la cosse à fourche dans le bornier et vissez le
capuchon du bornier.

o Les câbles des enceintes gauche et droite doivent avoir la même

longueur.

o Généralement, le côté ¥ du câble de l’enceinte est marqué pour

le distinguer du côté ^ du câble.

Connexions quand l'unité sert d'amplificateur
de puissance stéréo (page 19)

Reliez le canal gauche (L) des borniers SPEAKER à l'enceinte gauche et
le canal droit (R) à l'enceinte droite.

Veillez à bien connecter :

Bornier SPEAKER ¥ e bornier ¥ de l'enceinte
en utilisant le côté ¥ du câble d'enceinte

Bornier SPEAKER ^ e bornier ^ de l'enceinte
en utilisant le côté ^ du câble d'enceinte

o Assurez-vous aussi que le commutateur OUTPUT MODE est sur

“S TE REO ”.

Connexions quand l'unité sert d'amplificateur
de puissance mono (page 20)

Reliez les borniers BTL ( + et – ) à l'enceinte.

o Le diamètre interne de la fourche doit être d'au moins 6 mm et

le diamètre externe doit être au plus de 13,5 mm.

o Assurez-vous que le câble est fixé solidement en tirant

légèrement dessus.

Emploi de câbles d'enceinte avec fiches banane

Le capuchon du bornier étant vissé, insérez la fiche dans la prise en
bout de capuchon.

Veillez à bien connecter :

en utilisant le côté ¥ du câble d'enceinte

Bornier e bornier ^ de l'enceinte
en utilisant le côté ^ du câble d'enceinte

o Faites glisser le commutateur OUTPUT MODE sur “BTL”.

o Reliez la prise BTL (XLR L ou RCA L) à la prise de sortie du

préamplificateur (gauche ou droite).

o Lisez les instructions fournies avec la fiche banane.

Pour les consommateurs européens

Conformément aux réglementations de sécurité européennes, il
n'est pas possible de brancher des fiches banane dans les borniers
d'enceinte des modèles européens. Les orifices dans lesquels
s'insèrent les fiches banane ont été occultés par des capuchons
noirs. Branchez les enceintes à l'aide de cosses à fourche ou de
câbles nus. Si les capuchons noirs sortent des borniers, remettez­les en place.

Suivez ces étapes pour allumer et éteindre le système audio incluant
cette unité.

Baissez le volume du préamplificateur au minimum.

Guide de dépannage

En cas d’anomalie de fonctionnement, consultez le tableau qui suit
et tentez de résoudre le problème qui se pose à vous avant de faire
appel au revendeur ou au service après-vente ESOTERIC.
Par ailleurs, cet appareil n'est peut-être pas la cause du problème.
Vérifiez que les appareils qui lui sont connectés sont aussi employés
correctement.

Pas d’alimentation.

e Vérifiez que l’appareil est bien branché à la source d’alimentation

secteur. Vérifiez et assurez-vous que la source d’alimentation n’est
pas une prise commutée, et si c’est le cas, qu'elle est en service.
Vérifiez que la prise délivre bien du courant en y branchant un
autre appareil tel qu'une lampe ou un ventilateur, par exemple.

Il n'y a pas de son ou seul un son de très faible niveau se fait
entendre.

e Appuyez sur la touche POWER pour allumer l’unité.
e Vérifiez le fonctionnement du préamplificateur. Quand vous

allumez le préamplificateur, éteignez d'abord le A-02.

e Vérifiez que les enceintes, le préamplificateur et les autres

éléments sont bien raccordés.

e Réglez correctement l'entrée et la sortie du préamplificateur.
e Vérifiez les branchements du préamplificateur. Vérifiez que le

signal audio est produit correctement.

e Vérifiez que le commutateur INPUT SELECTOR est bien réglé.
e Réglez le volume du préamplificateur.

Circuit de protection

Cet appareil a un circuit de protection intégré. Ce circuit de
protection se compose d’un circuit de protection contre la
surchauffe, d’un circuit de protection contre la surcharge électrique
et d’un circuit de protection contre la sortie de composante
continue du courant.

Si le voyant autour de la touche POWER continue de clignoter
en bleu, il y a peut-être un court-circuit ¥/^ dans un câble
d'enceinte. Éteignez l'unité et vérifiez les câbles.

Si le voyant autour de la touche POWER continue de clignoter
en bleu et violet, la température interne de l'unité est peut-être
trop élevée. Éteignez l'unité et attendez qu'elle refroidisse.

Si le circuit de protection reste activé, veuillez contacter votre
revendeur ou un service après-vente agréé ESOTERIC.

Le voyant autour de la touche POWER continue de clignoter
en bleu.

e Le circuit de protection est activé. Il peut y avoir un court-circuit

¥/^ dans un câble d'enceinte. Éteignez l'unité et vérifiez les

câbles.

Le voyant autour de la touche POWER continue de clignoter
en bleu et violet.

e Le circuit de protection est activé. La température interne de

l'unité est peut-être trop élevée. Éteignez l'unité et attendez
qu'elle refroidisse.

Le son n'est pas stable.

e Vérifiez la polarité (¥/^) du câble d'enceinte. Elle peut être

inversée.

Comme cet appareil utilise un microcontrôleur, du bruit
ou d'autres interférences externes peuvent entraîner son
ma uvais f onc tion nem ent . Si c ela se p rodu it, éteigne z
l'appa reil e t refaites -le foncti onner après une attente
d'environ une minute.

o Die Filzpolster dienen zur Vermeidung etwaiger Beschädigungen

der Aufstellfläche und können zu diesem Zweck unter den
Stand füßen angebracht werden.

o Vermeiden Sie Aufstellungsorte, an denen die Endstufe Tropf-

oder Spritzwasser ausgesetzt ist.

o Stellen Sie keine mit Flüssigkeiten gefüllten Objekte, wie etwa

Vasen, auf die A-02.

o Installieren Sie die Endstufe nicht in geschlossenen Möbeln, wie

Bücherschränken oder Regalsystemen.

o Die A-02 bezieht auch im Bereitschaftsmodus, wenn sich der

POWER- oder STANDBY/ON-Schalter nicht in der ON-Position
befindet, einen geringen Ruhestrom aus dem Stromnetz.

o Platzieren Sie die Endstufe so, dass die verwendete Wandsteck-

dose und das Netzkabel jederzeit leicht zugänglich sind.

o Achten Sie darauf, dass Netzstecker- und -kabel stets in ein-

wandfreiem Zustand sind.

o Der Netzstecker von „Class “-Produkten besitzt einen Schutz-

kontakt. Achten Sie daher darauf, dass die Wandsteckdose, an
der Sie die A-02 anschließen, geerdet ist (Schutzkontaktsteck
d o s e ) .

o

Falls in diesem Produkt Batterien (ein Akku-Pack oder austausch­bare Trockenbatterien) zum Einsatz kommen, dürfen diese nicht
direkter Sonne, Feuer oder großer Hitze ausgesetzt werden.

Lesen Sie vor Inbetriebnahme Ihrer A-02 bitte die folgenden Hinweise.

Wahl des Aufstellungsorts

Die Endstufe ist schwer. Seien Sie beim Anheben und Installieren

vorsichtig, um Verletzungen zu vermeiden.

o Die aus gehärtetem Werkzeugstahl gefertigten, spitz zulaufenden

Stand-Pins sind fest mit dem Gehäuseboden verbunden. Obwohl
es den Anschein haben könnte, dass die Standfuß-Unterteile locker
seien, werden diese durch das Gewicht der Endstufe fest und
sicher fixiert. Dieser Aufbau trägt in hohem Maße zu einer effekti­ven Erschütterungs- und Vibrationsdämpfung bei.

Um mögliche Beschädigungen der Aufstellfläche zu vermeiden,
können die mitgelieferten Filzpolster unter den Standfüßen ange­bracht werden.

o Wählen Sie einen stabilen Aufstellungsort in der Nähe der anderen

Komponenten, an denen Sie die Endstufe betreiben möchten.

o Wählen Sie einen Aufstellungsort, der nicht direkter Sonne oder

anderen Wärmequellen ausgesetzt ist. Vermeiden Sie auch
Betriebs orte mit erhöhtem Staubaufkommen oder solche, die
Erschütterungen, Hitze, Kälte sowie Feuchtigkeit ausgesetzt sind.

o Da sich die Endstufe während des Betriebs erwärmen kann, ist stets

auf ausreichend Abstand zur Belüftung zu achten.

Stellen Sie sicher, dass mindestens 20 cm Abstand oberhalb und

5 cm Abstand an den Seiten der A-02 vorhanden sind.

Sofern Sie die A-02 in einem Schrank- oder Rack-System installieren,

verwenden Sie eines mit Ventilationsöffnungen und achten Sie auf
die Temperaturentwicklung der Endstufe.

Netzsteckerbügel

Der mitgelieferte Netzsteckerbügel dient als Zugentlastung und sorgt
bei Verwendung schwerer Netzkabel, wie dem ESOTERIC Netzkabel
7N-PC7300 MEXCEL und dem 6N-PC5300, für dauerhaf t sicheren
Kontakt, indem er ein Herausrutschen des Steckers verhindert.

Befestigen Sie den Bügel an der Endstufe und justieren Sie ihn so,
dass der Stecker des Netzkabels vollflächig aufliegt. Fixieren Sie
den Bügel anschließend mit den mitgelieferten Schrauben.

ACHTUNG

o Stellen Sie keine Gegenstände auf die Endstufe.

o Decken Sie die A-02 nicht mit einem Tuch oder Ähnlichem ab.

o Die Spannung, an der die A-02 betrieben wird, sollte den Angaben

auf der Geräterückseite entsprechen. Falls Sie diesbezüglich Zweifel
haben, kontaktieren Sie einen Elektrofachmann.

o Öffnen Sie nicht das Gehäuse, da dies Schäden an der Elektronik

oder einen Stromschlag verursachen kann. Falls ein Fremdkörper
ins Geräteinnere eingedrungen ist, kontaktieren Sie Ihren Fach­händler oder ein autorisiertes Service-Unternehmen.

o Achten Sie beim Ziehen des Netzsteckers darauf, dass Sie stets am

Stecker ziehen und niemals am Kabel.

o Stellen Sie die A-02 nicht auf einen hochflorigen Teppich.

o Stellen Sie die A-02 nicht auf eines der Seitenteile oder mit der

Boden platte nach oben hin.

o Bei eingeschalteter A-02 können, nach Einschalten eines Fernseh-

geräts, Linien im Fernsehbild erscheinen. Hierbei handelt es sich
nicht um Fehlfunktionen des TV-Geräts oder der Endstufe, sondern
um Interferenzen, die unter bestimmten Umständen auftreten
können. Vergrößern Sie den Abstand zwischen A-02 und TV-Gerät,
falls dieser Effekt auftritt.

Pflegehinweis

Falls die Gehäuseoberfläche des Verstärkers verschmutzt ist, verwen­den Sie zum Reinigen ein weiches Tuch oder milde Seifenlösung.
Warten Sie vor der erneuten Inbetriebnahme bis die Gehäuseober­fläche komplett trocken ist.

Aus Sicherheitsgründen sollte vor dem Reinigen der Netzstecker

gezogen werden.

o Sprühen Sie niemals Flüssigkeiten direkt auf die Endstufe.

o Verwenden Sie niemals Verdünner oder Alkohol, da dies die Ge -

häuseoberfläche beschädigen könnte.

o Vermeiden Sie länger anhaltenden Kontakt von Gummi- oder

Kunststoffmaterialien mit dem Gehäuse der Endstufe, da dies die
Gehäuseoberfläche beschädigen könnte.

POWER (Netzschalter)

A

Mittels dieser Taste schalten Sie die A-02 ein oder aus.
Beachten Sie zum Ein- und Ausschalten Ihres Audiosystems bitte
die Hinweise auf Seite 31.

Wenn Sie die A-02 einschalten, blinkt der blaue Leuchtring der
Taste. Während des Blinkens erfolgt noch keine Wiedergabe.
Warten Sie, bis die Tastenumrandung nicht mehr blinkt.

o Bei aktivier ter Schutzschaltung blinkt die Umrandung der

POWER-Taste. Während des Blinkens erfolgt keine Wiedergabe.
Überprüfen Sie in diesem Fall, ob eine der auf Seite 32 „Überlast­schutzschaltung“ beschriebenen Ursachen vorliegt.

o Da Netztransformator und -Kondensator dieser Endstufe sehr

hohe Kapazitäten besitzen, kommt es zu einem hörbaren Ein­schaltgeräusch. Dies ist keine Fehlfunktion.

o Warten Sie zur Vermeidung von Fehlfunktionen nach dem Aus-

schalten der A-02 mindestens zwei Sekunden, bevor Sie die
Endstufe erneut einschalten.

o Schalten Sie die Endstufe aus, wenn sie nicht in Verwendung ist.

Netzkabelanschluss

Verbinden Sie das Netzkabel mit dem Netzkabelanschluss.
Verbinden Sie den Netzstecker erst dann mit der Wand steckdose,
nachdem Sie alle anderen Anschlüsse vorgenommen haben.

Verwenden Sie ausschließlich das mitgelieferte Netzkabel

oder ein von ESOTERIC zugelassenes Netzkabel. Die Verwen­dung anderer Netzkabel kann Brände oder einen Stromschlag
verursachen.

INPUT SELECTOR (Eingangswahlschalter)

Mittels INPUT SELECTOR wählen Sie zwischen RCA (Cinch) und
XLR-Anschlussvariante.

SPEAKER (Lautsprecheranschlüsse)

ACHTUNG:
eien Sie bei Verwendung dieser Anschlüsse vorsichtig, da an
ihnen während des Betriebs gefährlich hohe Spanungen anliegen
können.

Schließen Sie die Lautsprechersysteme mittels handelsüblicher
Laut sprecherkabel an den SPEAKER-Anschlüssen der A-02 an.
Beachten Sie hierzu die Hinweise auf der folgenden Seite sowie
die Anschlussbeispiele auf den Seiten 29 und 30.

XLR-Eingänge

Verbinden Sie die Ausgänge des verwendeten Vorverstärkers
mittels handelsüblicher, symmetrischer XLR-Audiokabel mit die­sen Eingängen.
Beachten Sie hierzu die Anschlussbeispiele auf den Seiten 29 und

30.

o Bei Ver wendung dieser Eingänge stellen Sie den INPU T

SELECTOR-Schalter auf die Position „XLR“.

o Achten Sie beim Anschließen der XLR-Stecker darauf, dass der

Arretierhebel hörbar einrastet. Drücken Sie zum Abstecken auf
die Arretierung und ziehen Sie den Stecker aus der Buchse.

o Die Pin-Belegung der XLR-Eingänge ist: #2 PLUS (+) (HOT).

Verwenden Sie entsprechende Kabel mit korrekter Polarität.

RCA-Eingänge

Verbinden Sie die Ausgänge des verwendeten Vorverstärkers
mit tels handelsüblicher RCA (Cinch) Audiokabel mit diesen
Eingängen.
Beachten Sie hierzu die Anschlussbeispiele auf den Seiten 29 und

30.

Wechseln Sie die Anschlussvariante nicht, während die End-

stufe eingeschaltet ist, da dies laute Kontaktgeräusche verur­sacht, die Schäden der angeschlossenen Lautsprechersystem
sowie Ihres Gehörs verursachen können.

OUTPUT MODE-Schalter

Wählen Sie „STEREO“, wenn Sie die A-02 als Stereo-Endstufe
einsetzen.
Wählen Sie „BTL (Bridged Transformer Less)“, wenn die A-02 als
„übertragerfrei gebrückte“ Mono-Endstufe eingesetzt wird.

o Lautsprechersysteme können nicht gleichzeitig für „STEREO“- und

„BTL“-Betrieb angeschlossen werden. Gehen Sie zum Wechseln
der Betriebsart, wie folgt, vor:

1 Schalten Sie die A-02 aus und trennen Sie die Lautsprecher-

systeme von der Endstufe.

2 Wechseln Sie mittels OUTPUT MODE-Schalter die Betriebsart.
3 Schließen Sie das (die) Lautsprechersystem(e) an und schal-

ten Sie die A-02 anschließend ein.

Wechseln Sie nie die Betriebsart, während die Endstufe ein-

geschaltet ist, da die A-02 sowie die Lautsprechersysteme
ernsthaften Schaden nehmen können.

Schließen Sie die Kabel, wie folgt, an:

weißer Stecker e weiße Buchse (L: linker Kanal)

roter Stecker e rote Buchse (R: rechter Kanal)

o Bei Ver wendung dieser Eingänge stellen Sie den INPU T

SELECTOR-Schalter auf die Position „RCA“.

GND-Anschluss [SIGNAL GND]

Eine Verbindung dieses Anschlusses mit dem Masseanschluss
einer anderen Komponente Ihres Audiosystems kann möglicher­weise zur Verbesserung der Klang qualität beitragen.

o Beachten Sie bitte, dass es sich bei dieser Masseverbindung

NICHT um eine elektrisch sichere Erde (Hauserde) handelt.

ESOTERIC verwendet ESOTERIC MEXCEL stress-free Kabel als
Referenz. Folgende Artikel der ESOTERIC MEXCEL Kabelserie sind

Anschließen der Lautsprechersysteme

13,5mm oder weniger

Schließen Sie die Lautsprechersysteme mittels handelsüblicher Laut­sprecherkabel an den SPEAKER-Anschlüssen der A-02 an.

Ziehen Sie den Netzstecker aus der Wandsteckdose, bevor Sie

Lautsprechersysteme anschließen oder den Anschluss wechseln.

o

Verwenden Sie Lautsprechersysteme mit 4Ω oder höherer Impedanz,
wenn Sie mittels OUTPUT MODE-Schalter „STEREO“-Betrieb gewählt
haben.

Verwenden Sie Lautsprechersysteme mit 8Ω oder höherer Impedanz,

wenn Sie mittels OUTPUT MODE-Schalter „BTL“-Betrieb gewählt
haben.

o Schließen Sie Lautsprechersysteme niemals gleichzeitig an mehre-

ren Verstärkern/Endstufen an.

o Achten Sie darauf, dass sich einzelne Adern an den Kabelenden der

beiden Leiter nicht berühren, da dies einen elek trischen Kurzschluss
verursachen kann, der wiederum zu Brand oder schwerwiegenden
Fehlern in Ihrem Audiosystem führen kann.

o Vermeiden Sie Brummen und Rauschen, indem Sie Kabel nicht mit

dem Netzkabel bündeln oder parallel verlegen.

Lautsprecherkabel

o Lautsprecherkabel sollten stets so kurz wie möglich sein. Mit der

Ka bellänge nimmt auch der elektrische Widerstand zu und die
Däm pfungscharak teristik verschlechtert sich. Induktivität und
Kapazität nehmen ebenfalls zu, wodurch die Übertragungsqualität
von Klängen im oberen Frequenzbereich merklich verschlechtert
wird.

o Idealerweise sollten linke und rechte Lautsprecherkabel gleich lang

sein.

o Zur besseren Unterscheidung vom ^-Leiter ist üblicherweise der

¥-Leiter von Lautsprecherkabeln markiert.

Anschlussvariante bei Verwendung als
Stereo-Endstufe (siehe Seite 29)

Schließen Sie das linke Lautsprechersystem an den linken („L“) und das
rechte an den mit „R“ gekennzeichneten SPEAKER-Anschlüssen an.

Vorgehensweise beim Anschließen

Achten Sie auf sicheren, festen Sitz der angeschlossenen Kabel.

Verwendung von Kabeln mit abisolierten Enden

Drehen Sie die Kappe der jeweiligen Schraubklemme gegen den
Uhrzeigersinn los. Führen Sie das abisolierte Kabelende in die Öff­nung der Schraubklemme und schrauben Sie die Kappe wieder fest

Klemmen Sie nur das abisolierte Kabelende fest; nicht die Isolierung.

o Der Kabelquerschnitt sollte maximal 4 mm betragen.
o Vergewissern Sie sich durch leichtes, vorsichtiges Ziehen, dass

die Kabel richtig festgeklemmt sind.

Verwendung von Kabeln mit Kabelschuhen

Drehen Sie die Kappe der jeweiligen Schraubklemme gegen den
Uhrzeigersinn los

Schließen Sie ein einzelnes Lautsprechersystem an den BTL-Anschlüs­sen ( + und – ) an.

Schließen Sie die Kabel, wie folgt, an:

o Wählen Sie mittels OUTPUT MODE-Schalter „BTL”-Betrieb.
o Verbinden Sie den linken oder rechten Ausgang des verwendeten

Vorverstärkers mit dem BTL-Eingang (XLR L oder RCA (Cinch) L).

o Vergewissern Sie sich durch leichtes, vorsichtiges Ziehen, dass

die Kabel richtig festgeklemmt sind.

Verwendung von Kabeln mit Bananensteckern

Stecken Sie den Bananenstecker in die Buchse in der Oberseite der
Schraubklemme, ohne deren Kappe zuvor zu lösen.

o Beachten Sie die den Bananensteckern beiliegenden Hinweise.

Für Kunden in Europa

Aufgrund europäischer Sicherheitsbestimmungen dürfen Bananen­stecker nicht zum Anschließen von Lautsprecher systemen verwen­det werden. Daher sind die entsprechenden Öffnungen beim Euro­pamodell der A-02 mittels schwarzer Schutzkappen verschlossen.
Verwenden Sie zum Anschließen Kabel mit abisolierten Kabelenden
oder mit Kabelschuhen. Bringen Sie die schwarzen Schutz kappen
wieder an, falls diese sich aus den Schraubklemmen lösen.

Verwenden Sie eine dieser Anschluss­varianten.
Wählen Sie mittels INPUT SELECTOR
(Eingangswahlschalter) die entspre­chende Anschlussvariante.

In diesem Beispiel wird die A-02 als
Mono-Endstufe für den linken Kanal
eingesetzt.
Verbinden Sie den BTL-Eingang (XLR L
oder RCA L) mit dem gewünschten
Vorverstärkerausgang (L oder R).

B Achten Sie auf sicheren Anschluss der

Lautsprecherkabel (siehe Seite 28).

Bei losen Kabeln können einzelne Adern oder ein Kabel­schuh in Kontakt mit anderen Metallteilen oder dem
Endstufengehäuse kommen. Hierdurch kann ein elektri­scher Funkenüberschlag entstehen, der Funktionsstörun­gen, Stromschlag oder Verbrennungen verursachen kann.

Beachten Sie, dass selbst dann an allen Lautsprecheran­schlüssen elektrische Spannungen anliegen, wenn sich der
OUTPUT MODE-Schalter in der Stellung „BTL“ bendet.

Ein- und Ausschalten des Audiosystems

Beachten Sie bei jedem Ein- und Ausschalten Ihres Audiosystems die
folgenden Hinweise.

Beherzigen Sie die Hinweise, da andernfalls unerwartet hohe Ein-

oder Ausschaltpegel die angeschlossenen Lautsprechersysteme
sowie Ihr Gehör schädigen können.

Einschalten des Audiosystems

Reduzieren Sie den Ausgangspegel des Vorverstärkers
auf den Minimalwert.

Schalten Sie die angeschlossenen Signalquellen ein.

Schalten Sie den Vorverstärker ein.

Betätigen Sie zum Einschalten der A-02 die POWER-Taste.

Ausschalten des Audiosystems

Stoppen Sie die Wiedergabe der Signalquelle.

Reduzieren Sie den Ausgangspegel des Vorverstärkers

auf den Minimalwert.

Betätigen Sie zum Ausschalten der A-02 die POWER-Taste.

Wenn Sie die A-02 einschalten, blinkt der blaue Leuchtring
der POWER-Taste. Während des Blinkens erfolgt keine Wieder­gabe. Warten Sie, bis die Tastenumrandung nicht mehr blinkt
und erhöhen Sie dann erst die Wiedergabelautstärke am
Vorverstärker.

Schalten Sie den Vorverstärker aus.

Schalten Sie die angeschlossenen Signalquellen aus.

Hilfe bei Funktionsstörungen

Falls bei der A-02 Funktionsstörungen auftreten sollten, versuchen
Sie, anhand der folgenden Hinweise, selbst Abhilfe zu schaffen, bevor
Sie Ihren Fachhändler, den ESOTERIC Kundenservice, den technischen
Support oder einen autorisierten Reparaturservice kontaktieren.
Die Störungsursache kann auch außerhalb der A-02 liegen. Überprüfen
Sie daher bitte auch alle an der Endstufe angeschlossenen Geräte.

Kein Strom

e Überprüfen Sie die Verbindung zur verwendeten Steckdose und,

ob sie schaltbar ist. Schalten Sie sie gegebenenfalls ein. Überprü­fen Sie die einwandfreie Funktion der Wand steck dose, indem Sie
ein anderes elektrisches Gerät, wie beispielsweise einen Ventilator
oder eine Lampe, daran anschließen.

Keine Wiedergabe oder nur sehr leise Wiedergabe

e Schalten Sie die A-02 mittels POWER-Taste ein.
e Überprüfen Sie den Vorverstärker. Schalten Sie hierbei die A-02

aus, bevor Sie den Vorverstärker einschalten.

e Überprüfen Sie sämtliche Verbindungen und Anschlüsse der

Lautsprecher, des Vorverstärkers sowie der daran betriebenen
Signalquellen.

e Überprüfen Sie die am Vorverstärker eingestellten Ein- und

Ausgangspegel sowie die jeweiligen Einstellungen.

e Überprüfen Sie die Anschlüsse des Vorverstärkers. Vergewissern

Sie sich, dass das Audiosignal über den richtigen Ausgang ausge­geben wird.

e Überprüfen Sie die Schalterstellung des INPUT SELECTOR.
e Korrigieren Sie den Ausgangspegel des Vorverstärkers.

Überlastschutzschaltung

Die A-02 besitzt einen internen Überlastungsschutz, der die End­stufe vor Überhitzung, Überspannung und Gleich strom schützt.

Wenn die POWER-Tastenumrandung kontinuierlich blau
blinkt, liegt möglicherweise ein ¥/^ Kurzschluss in den
Lautsprecherkabeln vor. Schalten Sie die Endstufe aus und
überprüfen Sie anschließend die Kabel.

Wenn die POWER-Tastenumrandung kontinuierlich blau und
purpur blinkt, ist möglicherweise die Temperatur im Innern der
Endstufe zu hoch. Schalten Sie die A-02 aus und warten Sie, bis
die Endstufe abgekühlt ist.

Sollte die Schutzschaltung auch nach Beheben der Ursache
weiterhin aktiviert werden, kontaktieren Sie bitte Ihren Fach­händler oder ein autorisiertes ESOTERIC-Servicecenter.

Der Leuchtring der POWER-Taste blinkt kontinuierlich blau.

e Die Schutzschaltung wurde aktiviert. Möglicherweise besteht ein

¥/^ Kurzschluss in einem Lautsprecherkabel. Schalten Sie die

Endstufe aus und überprüfen Sie anschließend die Kabel.

Der Leuchtring der POWER-Taste blinkt kontinuierlich blau
und purpur.

e Der Überlastungsschutz wurde aktiviert. Möglicherweise ist die

Temperatur im Innern der Endstufe zu hoch. Schalten Sie die
A-02 aus und warten Sie, bis die Endstufe abgekühlt ist.

Die Wiedergabe ist nicht druck voll, Klänge lassen sich im
Stereobild nicht eindeutig orten.

e Überprüfen Sie die Lautsprecherkabel auf korrekte Polarität

(¥/^). Möglicherweise wurden die Leiter eines Lautsprecher-
systems vertauscht.

Da die A-02 eine Mikroprozessorsteuerung besitzt, kön nen
Überspannungen und andere Interferenzen Fehl funk tio nen
verursachen. Ein Reset kann das Problem oftmals beheben.
Schalten Sie die Endstufe aus und warten Sie ungefähr eine
Minute, bevor Sie ihn erneut in Betrieb nehmen.
