changed the way studio engineers and audiophiles alike chose to experience high quality audio. The Tannoy HPD Series quickly became some of
the most b eloved Hi-Fi louds peakers of all time.

More than ju st an homage its pr edecessor, the STIRL ING Dual Concentric H i-Fi Loudspeaker f urther elevat es the Tannoy HPD heritage o f
outstandingly transparent performance via the implementation of new, upscaled drivers and components – technology that was unavailable
at the time. Simply put, the STIRLING delivers legendary HPD performance to a new generation of music acionados.

Unpacking

Examin e all pieces of packi ng material and inspe ct the carto n for signs of exte rnal damage. If there i s evidence of excess ive damage to
the packaging and resulting damage to the loudspeaker, inform the carrier and supplier immediately. Always keep the packing in such
circumstances for subsequent examination.

Unfaste n the bottom of the c arton. Fold the e nd leaves out of the way and r emove the 4 corner pac king pieces to reve al the plinth and bot tom
of the loud speaker cabinet. L ocate and caref ully remove the access ories pack fro m the carton.

Turn the car ton and loudspeaker o ver so that the cabin et now stands on the  oor inside the car ton. Lift the c arton upwards to r eveal
the loudspeaker.

Positioning

Locate th e loudspeakers so t hat the favourite lis tening positio n is approximately 15° fr om the axes of the cab inets. The axes o f both cabinets
should intersect at a point slightly in front of the listening position. Remember that the proximity of the loudspeakers to walls and corners
will aect the sound. Some experimentation will probably be needed to ne-tune the stereo image depth and low frequency sound quality.
Close to wal l positions and roo m corners have the e ect of increas ing very low freq uency sound ener gy. Reective adj acent walls may upset th e
stereo image by causing unwanted reections.

In order to experience the best acoustic performance and fully realise their exceptional stereo image depth capabilities, the loudspeakers
should ide ally be used at least 1m f rom any sidewall or re ective surf ace and at least 0.5 m away f rom a rear wall.

Insert s are provided in t he base of the speaker s for down spikes tha t give maximum sta bility. The spikes pr ovided should be sc rewed into the
base of the l oudspeakers. Wh en the loudspeaker is i nstalled in its u pright position , the spikes should pa ss between the weave o f your carpet to
contac t the oor beneath.

Adjust the s pikes for maximum s tability, then ti ghten the lock nut s rmly, but without us ing undue force.

For polish ed wooden oors a nd other delicate su rfaces, metal c ups are provided t o place under the spike s.

Connection

Consult the p roduct speci cation sec tion within this ma nual as this clearly sh ows the acceptable p ower range for ampli er matching to your
speakers . As with all loudsp eaker systems, the p ower handling is a fun ction of voice coil t hermal capacit y. Care should be take n to avoid
overdriv ing any amplier, as this wi ll cause output ove rload resultin g in ‘clipp ing’ or distor tion within the ou tput signal. This ca n cause damage
to the speake rs if done for any ex tended period . Generally an ampli er of higher power tha t is running hard, but f ree of distor tion, will pose les s
risk of damage to the loudspeaker than a lower power amplier continually clipping. Remember also that a high powered amplier running at
less than 9 0% of output power g enerally sounds a gr eat deal better th an a lower powered exam ple struggling t o achieve 100%.

Always use t he best quality o f cable available wi thin your budget. H igh quality audi o signals passing fr om the amplier to th e loudspeaker are
unusual in t heir demands on the c able. Wide dynamic ra nge and wide bandwi dth informatio n has to coexist wit h the ability to tr ansmit peak
current s of at least 10 amps, wit hout incurrin g any loss or signal impai rment. We would recom mend that you always ke ep the cable runs th e
same leng th for each speaker. Reme mber that cable con struction c an aect the sou nd quality so be pre pared to experi ment to nd a cable tha t
suits you r ear and audio syst em.

First li nk the HF+ terminal to th e LF+ terminal and HF- te rminal to the LF- term inal, using the link s provided in the acce ssories pack .
The posit ive (plus) terminal on th e amplier left c hannel (marked + or colo ured red) must be co nnected to the po sitive HF terminal o n the left
speaker. The le ft speaker is the one o n the left as you lo ok at the stereo pai r from your listeni ng position. The ne gative (minus) terminal on t he
amplier l eft channel (marke d - or coloured blac k) must be connec ted to the negative HF te rminal on the lef t speaker.

Repeat thi s connection pr ocess for the righ t speaker. Remember that t he positive (+ or red) on the a mplier must be co nnected to the po sitive
(+ or red) on the spe aker and the negative (- or b lack) to negative. Sel ect a signal sourc e, such as a CD player, switch on t he amplier and slow ly
turn up the v olume control to che ck that both louds peakers are repro ducing bass and tre ble informatio n.

Earth Connection:

To optimise pe rformance fu rther, use a shielded o r screened loud speaker cable in ord er to reduce unwanted r adio frequenc y interferen ce.
The scre ening terminatio n should be connec ted to the earth or g round (white) terminal o n the loudspeaker and t o the ground or ear th
connec tion on the amplie r. Alter natively, if you are not usi ng a screened loud speaker cable but w ish to utilise the ear thing facilit y, run a single
cable between the loudspeaker and amplier earth terminals.

If your ampl ier is not equippe d with two sets o f output terminal s, twist the Lef t LF+ (positive) and th e Left HF+ (posit ive) together at the
amplier e nd of the cables. Con nect these to th e amplier Left c hannel positive te rminal marked + (plu s) or colo ured red. Twist the Le ft
LF- (negativ e) and the H F- (negative) cables tog ether and connec t them to the ampli er Left channel n egative terminal ma rked - (minus)
or coloured black.

At the loudsp eaker end, connec t the cables labell ed Left LF+ and Lef t LF- to the lef t hand loudspeaker LF t erminals, ensurin g that you note the
polarit y markings on the c able sheathing. Th en proceed to conne ct the Left HF+ a nd Left HF- to the HF te rminals on the same l oudspeaker.

Repeat thi s process to connec t the right hand lou dspeaker to the ampli er right channel o utput, once again e nsuring that polar ity is
correct throughout.

Bi-amp Mode

Bi-amping extends the principle of bi-wiring one stage further. In this connection option, separate power ampliers are used for bass and
treble sig nals in each loudspe aker. Four mono (or two ster eo) ampliers of the s ame type are requ ired for a stereo p air of loudspeaker s.

If two ste reo ampliers ar e used, it is recomme nded that one ampli er supply bass inf ormation to lef t and right loudsp eakers and the other,
the treble information. It is important not to use the link cables on the terminal panel, otherwise amplier damage may result.

Treble Adjustment

Each loud speaker is tted w ith two controls l ocated on the fro nt bae beneath the d etachable grill e. These high curre nt switch block s are
labelled R OLL OFF and ENERGY. They can be us ed to compensate f or the varied acous tic character istics of liste ning rooms. The con trols should
be adjust ed with the ampli er tone controls in th e ‘at’ or uncompe nsated position . Each loudspeaker s hould be adjusted i ndividually.
Rotating t he amplier balanc e control, to selec t rst one louds peaker and then the oth er, most easily achieve s this.

The Energ y control has ve posi tions. It allows the o utput of the high f requency comp ression drive uni t to be increased or de creased from t he
linear or ‘a t’ position over a f requency ban d from approxima tely 1 kHz to 27 kHz. The Rol l O control has ve po sitions (+2, level, -2, -4 and

-6 dB per oc tave) and provides a djustment at ex treme high freq uencies from 5 kH z to 30 kHz.

The Energ y control has a shelvi ng eect where as the roll o contro l increases or dec reases the slope o f the extreme hi gh frequency r esponse.
The atte st, most linear r esponse from the l oudspeaker will be o btained with bot h controls set at the L EVEL position, an d this position shou ld
be used fo r initial listenin g tests. If the over all quality of the hi gh frequency s ound seems too pro minent the –1.5 or –3 positions for t he Energy
control sh ould be tried. If th e sound appears su bdued in the trebl e region +1.5 or +3 set tings may be prefe rred. Once the ener gy control
setti ng has been estab lished the Roll O co ntrol can be adjus ted to reduce or sligh tly increase the e xtreme high fr equency content i f necessary.

Remember t he changes that ca n be made by moving eithe r control from on e position to anothe r are subtle. They may not e asily be heard if
the progr amme material has ver y little conten t in the frequenc y band under consid eration. Choos e a well-balanced pie ce of music with a ful l
spect rum of sound. The co rrect sett ing will be found whe n the loudspeaker s are no longer eviden t and only the musica l performance i s heard.

Cabinet Care

The cabinet is nished to exacting standards utilising carefully selected solid hardwood mouldings and matching real wood veneers. The wood
should onl y be cleaned with a dr y cloth or with a lig ht application of q uality non-sili cone furnitur e polish such as the spe cialist Tannoy wax
supplie d in the accessory p ack. Take care not to get po lish on the grille clo th or lacquered fr ont bae.

In common wi th all solid wood fu rniture, expos ure to extremes o f heat, cold and var ying humidity w ill cause the wood to ea se slightly.
Theref ore it is recommend ed that the loudspea ker is protected f rom environment al extremes to g uard against any suc h occurrence. Any woo d
will chang e colour when subjec ted to the UV conten t of ambient light and dr y out over time, hence t he need to ‘feed ’ the wood with the wa x
provided periodically.

Desabroche la parte inferior de la caja. Doble las hojas de los extremos para que no estorben y retire las 4 piezas de embalaje de las esquinas para
revelar el zócalo y la parte inferior del gabinete del altavoz. Localice y retire con cuidado el paquete de accesorios de la caja.

Dé la vuelta a la caja y el altavoz de modo que el gabinete ahora se apoye en el piso dentro de la caja. Levante la caja hacia arriba para revelar
elaltavoz.

Posicionamiento

Ubique los altavoces de modo que la posición de escucha favorita sea aproximadamente a 15° de los ejes de los gabinetes. Los ejes de ambos
gabinetes deben cruzarse en un punto ligeramente por delante de la posición de escucha. Recuerde que la proximidad de los altavoces a paredes y
esquinas afectará al sonido. Probablemente se necesite algo de experimentación para ajustar la profundidad de la imagen estéreo y la calidad del
sonido de baja frecuencia. Las posiciones cercanas a la pared y las esquinas de la habitación tienen el efecto de aumentar la energía del sonido de
muy baja frecuencia. Las paredes reectantes adyacentes pueden alterar la imagen estéreo provocando reejos no deseados.

Para experimentar el mejor rendimiento acústico y realizar plenamente sus excepcionales capacidades de profundidad de imagen estéreo,
losaltavoces deberían utilizarse idealmente al menos a 1 m de cualquier pared lateral o supercie reectante y al menos a 0,5 m de una
paredtrasera.

Se proporcionan inserciones en la base de los altavoces para puntas hacia abajo que brindan la máxima estabilidad. Los picos provistos deben
atornillarse en la base de los altavoces. Cuando el altavoz está instalado en su posición vertical, los picos deben pasar entre el tejido de su alfombra
para hacer contacto con el piso debajo.

Ajuste las clavijas para obtener la máxima estabilidad, luego apriete las contratuercas rmemente, pero sin usar fuerza excesiva.

Para pisos de madera pulida y otras supercies delicadas, se proporcionan copas de metal para colocar debajo de las púas.

Conexión

Consulte la sección de especicaciones del producto en este manual, ya que muestra claramente el rango de potencia aceptable para que el
amplicador se adapte a sus altavoces. Como ocurre con todos los sistemas de altavoces, el manejo de potencia es una función de la capacidad
térmica de la bobina móvil. Se debe tener cuidado para evitar sobrecargar cualquier amplicador, ya que esto causará una sobrecarga de salida
que resultará en un ‘recorte’ o distorsión dentro de la señal de salida. Esto puede dañar los altavoces si se hace durante un período prolongado.
Porlo general, un amplicador de mayor potencia que funciona con fuerza, pero sin distorsión, presentará menos riesgo de dañar el altavoz que un
amplicador de menor potencia que se satura continuamente. Recuerde también que un amplicador de alta potencia que funciona a menos del
90% de la potencia de salida generalmente suena mucho mejor que un ejemplo de menor potencia que lucha por alcanzar el 100%.

Utilice siempre la mejor calidad de cable disponible dentro de su presupuesto. Las señales de audio de alta calidad que pasan del amplicador
al altavoz son inusuales en sus exigencias al cable. La información de amplio rango dinámico y ancho de banda amplio tiene que coexistir con
la capacidad de transmitir corrientes pico de al menos 10 amperios, sin incurrir en ninguna pérdida o deterioro de la señal. Recomendamos que
siempre mantenga el cable con la misma longitud para cada altavoz. Recuerde que la construcción del cable puede afectar la calidad del sonido,
asíque esté preparado para experimentar y encontrar un cable que se adapte a su oído y sistema de audio.

Primero, conecte el terminal HF + al terminal LF + y el terminal HF- al terminal LF-, utilizando los enlaces provistos en el paquete de accesorios.
El terminal positivo (más) del canal izquierdo del amplicador (marcado con + o de color rojo) debe conectarse al terminal HF positivo del altavoz
izquierdo. El altavoz izquierdo es el de la izquierda mientras mira el par estéreo desde su posición de escucha. El terminal negativo (menos) del canal
izquierdo del amplicador (marcado - o de color negro) debe conectarse al terminal HF negativo del altavoz izquierdo.

Repita este proceso de conexión para el altavoz derecho. Recuerde que el positivo (+ o rojo) del amplicador debe estar conectado al positivo
(+ o rojo) del altavoz y el negativo (- o negro) al negativo. Seleccione una fuente de señal, como un reproductor de CD, encienda el amplicador
ysuba lentamente el control de volumen para comprobar que ambos altavoces reproducen información de graves y agudos.

Conexión a tierra:

Para optimizar aún más el rendimiento, utilice un cable de altavoz blindado o apantallado para reducir las interferencias de radiofrecuencia no
deseadas. La terminación de apantallamiento debe conectarse al terminal de tierra o tierra (blanco) del altavoz y a la conexión a tierra o tierra
del amplicador. Alternativamente, si no está utilizando un cable de altavoz apantallado pero desea utilizar la instalación de conexión a tierra,
coloqueun solo cable entre los terminales de tierra del altavoz y del amplicador.
