Installation (continued)
This shoulder is necessary to mount these heads securely and in the proper position. The diameter of many mounting shoulders is 1” (25.4mm) and heads require this size. For mounting shoulder diameters that are .79” (20mm), a special shim is included in the package contents to provide the necessary spacing.
A variety of adapters are provided to accommodate mounting to Tanaka as well as other units (see sizes listed below). To mount the “Fixed Line” head, (Ref. 1), place the recessed side on to the mounting shoulder of the gear case. When using the 8mm nut, always use the 10mm washer.
The “Manual Feed” head is mounted in the same

manner , except that the “Cutter Holder” (Ref. 2-4 show below) must always be used as shown in Ref. 2A & 2B.

1.) This head is designed to accommodate nylon
line with a diameter of .095” - .105” and can hold up 15’ (total length). The cutting swath (determined by the length of the line exiting the head from each side) is variable depending on the following:
A. The diameter of line being used B. The unit’s power C. The desired cutting speed
2.) Fold a pre-cut length of line with one side slightly longer than the other (as shown below).
3.) On the ground facing side of the head, insert the two ends of the folded line in to the two holes and pull them completely through (as shown below).
4.) Wind
both lengths of line together in either direction until 8-10” remain. Insert the shortest line into the nearest exit hole slot then wind the remaining line to the slot on the opposite side. More
4.) From the opposite side of the head, feed the lines through the holes located on the side of the head and pull until they are totally extended
line can be extended (in increments of 3”) by unwinding both lines to next exit hole. The total line length (to extend from each side) will be subject to the factors listed above, however a good starting length could be 6”.
