Introduction

Digital Broadcast Monitor

The TAMUZ OSPREY G3 series monitors are our range of cost effective Digital Video Control Monitors for SD and HD Broadcast and Production Applications in various screen sizes starting from 7“wide up to to 24“ wide.

The OSPREY series monitors are designed as an universal digital control monitor, equipped with analog, DVI/HDMI and SDI inputs, to display HD studio signals directly. They are an ideal solution for viewing the output of Cameras, Switchers or other Broadcast Equipment for confidence or quality. This monitors are available as desktop or rack mountable devices.

ISO Product Quality

For the production of TAMUZ video monitors LCD panels complies with the standard ISO 13406-2, error-class 1 or 2, only. This ISO standard 13406-2 defines the scales for ergonomic and picture quality.

The LCD panel manufactures itself (like AU, CMO, LG-Philips, NEC, Samsung, Sharp or Toshiba) don't guarantees absolute any errorlessness and don't guarantees that the LCD panels are free of sticking effects.

Pixel Errors

Following limited values which may not exceed are valid.

Error-type #1 describes errors by a complete bright (white) pixel, error-type #2 describes errors by a complete dark (black) pixel, error-type #3 describes errors by defective sub-pixels of the colors red, green and blue, which are completely bright or dark.

A single LCD pixel is built by a set of three sub-pixels, one of red, green and blue.

Error class I contains highly selected panels with no pixel error anyway. Panels within this class are rare and very high priced. Panels from the error class II are the most common selection for high quality industry applications. The error class III defines the mass production selection for IT applications. TFT panels related to the error class IV are not useful for a LCD monitor at all.

Class of Usability

Next the standard ISO 13406-2 defines the classification of usability of LCD screens.

Usability Classification Description

Class 1 This permits several users to view the entire display area at the same time. This ap-

plies for intended viewing distance (between 40 to 60 cm, depending on the size and resolution of the monitor) and for a viewing angle within an 80° cone in front of the screen without any restriction of visual efficiency, in such a way that brightness, contrast and color is maintained

Class 2 Permits a single user to view the entire area of the display. This applies for inten-

ded viewing distance (between 40 to 60 cm, depending on the size and resolution of the monitor) from every position in front of the screen, in such a way that brightness, contrast and color is maintained.

Class 3 Permits a single user to view the entire area of the display. This applies for inten-

ded viewing distance (between 40 to 60 cm, depending on the size and resolution of the monitor) from one fixed position in front of the screen, in such a way that brightness, contrast and color is maintained.

Class 4 Permits a single user to view the center area of the display. This applies for inten-

Class of Reflections

The reflection characteristics of an LCD Screen are of particular importance in very bright ambient conditions or in an environment with multiple light sources. The ISO standard provides for three quality classes.

Reflection Classification Description

Class 1 General office conditions without special requirements as to workspace lighting. Class 2 Appropriate for most office conditions, with few exceptions. Class 3 Appropriate for office environments, with controlled luminance conditions.

All of the TAMUZ OSPREY series monitors comply with class 1.

General Safety Instructions

Limitation of the product

The technology itself and some parts built-in the TAMUZ OSPREY G3 series have limitations which the user have to understand and accept.

The user must accept that it is necessary

•

to avoid condensation of water within the OSPREY G3 series. It may result in improper operation or disconnection of electrodes.

•

not to exceed the absolute maximum rating value. (input voltage variation, environmental temperature and so on) Otherwise the receiver may be damaged.

•

the antenna must be grounded correctly. Please observe the relevant regulations.

Duty of care of the user

The OSPREY G3 series was designed and built under the harmonized norms to be adhered as well as further technical specifications. It corresponds to the state of the art and ensures a maximum amount of safety.

However, this safety can only be reached, if all safety measures are taken in the operational practice. It is the duty of the OSPREY G3 series user, to plan these measures and check their explanation.

The user must guarantee that

•

the OSPREY G3 series is only used as agreed (cf. chapter product specification)

•

the OSPREY G3 series is operated only in faultless, working condition and particularly the safety facilities are checked for their function efficiency regularly

•

the OSPREY G3 series operator's manual always be placed in a complete and legible condition for disposal

•

only sufficiently qualified and authorized staff operates, maintains and repairs the OSPREY G3 series

•

staff is instructed to meet work safety and environmental protection regulation and knows the operator's manual as well as there particularly contained safety instructions

•

all appropriate safety and warning notes not being removed and remaining legible at the OSPREY G3 series

Constructive changes at the OSPREY G3 series may be carried out only after written permission by the manufacturer!

Safety symbols

The following safety symbols are applied in this operator's manual. These symbols shall primarily draw the attention of the reader to the text of the accompanying safety note.

This symbol points out that there are dangers for life and health of persons.

This symbol indicates information which contributes for a better understanding of the function of the equipment.

This symbol points out that there are dangers for material and environment or the equipment himself.

Warning about dangerous electrical voltages to or within the equipment.

Basic Safety Instructions

The OSPREY G3 series only may be used by persons who are trained, authorized and has knowledge of the operator's manual.

Before every production, check the OSPREY G3 series for visible damages and make sure that it is ope- rated in faultless condition! Report noticed deficiencies to the supervisor immediately or schedule to restore by qualified persons.

Service and Maintenance

Adhere to the specified inspection and maintenance intervals in the operator's manual!

•

Before maintenance and repair work it must be guaranteed that all parts of the OSPREY G3 series have cooled down on space temperature!

•

Smear-, cool- or cleaning-fluids, endangering the environment, must be disposed duly!

•

Repair work on the electrical power supply of the OSPREY G3 series system must be done by a trained electric qualified employee!

•

Damaged lines or cables have to be immediately replaced!

Released bolted joints must be checked for solid seat before putting into operation after maintenance or repair work and it must be guaranteed, that removed system-unit cover parts or filters were re-installed!

Observe environmental protection prescriptions

The legal duties for waste avoidance and proper utilization for elimination must be adhered at all work stations, also including the OSPREY G3.

During repair, installation and maintenance work, be aware of water endangering substances such as;

•

Lubricating greases and oil

•

Hydraulics oils

•

Coolant

•

solvent containing cleaning liquids

don't load the floor or reach into the sewage system!

Note: The valid environmental protection prescriptions must be observed.

These water endangering substances must be kept, transported, caught and disposed in suitable containers!

Recycling

If OSPREY G3 series monitor no longer operates or is un-repairable, please do not dispose the receiver in the trash.

Please return the receiver to your local dealer or TAMUZ directly, we will grant the correct and suitable recycling of the old monitor.

Note: Don't waste unused, old or broken monitors. Follow your local environmental protection prescriptions.

Recognition of the copyrights

The user of the OSPREY G3 series appreciates, that in the OSPREY G3 series contains software programs as well as this documentation is subject to the copyright laws as well as copyright propriety and other protection rights and does not purchase this with the acquisition or the use of the OSPREY G3 se-

ries system by any time. The user obtains rather merely the right for the exclusive use of the OSPREY G3 series.

In the OSPREY G3 series contained software as well as the accompanying documentation may not be changed, enlarged or adapted to other systems or translated into other languages, without written permission of the author. With the installation and use of the OSPREY G3 series the user recognizes these license and use conditions.

Guarantee agreement: OSPREY G3 Series

Guarantee agreement:

In the OSPREY G3 series system contains software and the instructions are left to the user as they are. This means, the author of the software or the instructions doesn't assume any liability for the suitability of the software or the documentation to any special purpose. He particularly isn't liable for damages or sequential damages which indirectly deliberately or unintentionally arise from the use of the OSPREY G3 series or the documentation directly.

The OSPREY G3 series system and the documentation can be changed and enlarged without previous announcement at any time. Rights for updates free of charge does not apply.

Guarantee period

TAMUZ Monitors, the manufacturer of the OSPREY G3 series grants a guarantee period of 24 months on the faultless function of the system and its components.

Guarantee exceptions

Claims for defects shall not exist in cases of

•

natural wear and tear and damages, defects, reduced output, and changes of condition or operation of our product due to extraneous cause (for example impact, blows, agitation, water, fire), improper storage, treatment or erection, unusual climatic conditions, special conditions at receipt or operational conditions at the location of use, or force majeure;

•

defects due to construction and material deficiencies, as far as the customer has specified the construction or the material.

•

Image Sticking on LCD-Panel, which is caused by permanent pictures as well as Gap Mura on the LCD-Panel.

Guarantee Certification

Please, send in the full guarantee certification upon receipt of the product to the manufacturer or suppliers within 21 working days. The manufacturer or supplier only then can grant possible rights to claim under guarantee in full size and transmitting current information about software updates and indications for expansions or for the operation of the equipment to you.

Note: Only if the guarantee card of the OSPREY G3 series has been returned intime to the manufacturer or supplier, rights to claim under guarantee can be asserted against the manufacturer or supplier.

Transport of the equipment OSPREY G3 Series

Transport of the equipment

Transportation

The OSPREY G3 series is a sensitive electronic product and should be transported with all caution. Throwing the equipment or hard pushes during the transport must be avoided.

Weight

The OSPREY G3 series weights inclusive of the accessories and his packing less then 10 kg and should be carried under consideration of the accident prevention measures or transported with help of corresponding aids therefore by two persons.

Note: Observe the accident prevention prescriptions at the transport of the OSPREY G3 series to the avoidance of persons and damages to property.

Packing

The OSPREY G3 series is delivered in a special transport carton. It recommends itself to keep this carton and the accompanying packaging. So in the case of a later necessary transport and dispatch the equipment can be packed and protect against damages as delivered to you.

Return dispatch

At a return dispatch without original packing to the supplier or manufacturer the liability is excluded.

Don't forget to ask for a RMA (return material authorization) number before you send any material back to the manufacturer. Check for a RMA the web-site www.tamuz.tv, www.tamuz.de or www.tamuz.us.

Damages in transit

Check the contents of the received transport carton with the delivery note or the invoice on completeness and inform your supplier if you have missing parts upon receipt of the product. Please contact within 5 working days. If you receive a delivery on which the transport carton or the contents is damaged, proceed after the known guidelines of the cargo shipper, (which as a rule is enclosed with the delivering papers). Perhaps stricter terms must be taken into account.

Note: Check before using the OSPREY G3 series whether damages in transit have been happened and arrange a repair of these damages if necessary.

The OSPREY G3 series monitors offers following features:

High resolution LCD panel - LED backlight and high resolution; The high-brightness, high contrast, high-speed response and wide viewing angle technology help the monitor can be used under variety of lighting conditions

Durable and lightweight design; Full metal durable and lightweight design provides easy operation for post-production and OB vans applications.

•

Two Colors Tally Indicator; Two Colors Tally Indicator as red and green, to monitor each input signal and check ON-AIR mode.

•

Auto-detection of all color system (PAL, NTSC, SECAM); This unit automatically detects the color standards

•

3D video decoder; Process 3D decoding on VIDEO signals, to realize better reduce cross color

•

Motion-Adaptive De-interlacing; The de-interlace converts interlaced video to progressive video by motion detection, reduce the serrated image.

•

10BIT data Processing; Signal input, signal processing and image output are 10bit data processing, to ensure the details of the image display

•

Y/C Input; Decomposition for the luminance signal (Y) and chrominance signals (C) of the video signal can be input through this connector

Scan mode; Scan mode includes Full Scan, Over Scan and Under Scan. (KVM-2230W and KVM2430W are with Full Scan and Over Scan, without Under Scan)

Zoom In (focus assist); Zoom in any part of the picture, to watch picture details more clearly, and assist for focus.

•

Audio level meter (UV+PPM); Show the audio level meter (UV+PPM) for SDI embedded audio

•

Brightness histogram; System automatically analyzes the input signal’s brightness distribution with a diagram on the screen. X coordinate shows the brightness sampling value, the range is 0 ~ 1023, the higher value means the higher brightness. Y coordinate shows the percentage of the brightness in the entire frame picture.

•

Vector scope; Vector UV analysis for color bar signal input

•

Remote control function; Available to connect to the remote terminal to operate the equipment to directly select the input signal, longitudinal mode settings etc

Front Panel

The monitor is equipped with a operation keyboard and some indicators at the front.

Below listed the function of all keys.

OSD Menu

Menu structure

When the user opens the OSD menu by pushing the MENU key at front a graphical menu overlay appears on screen. This OSD contains several top-menus and each of them some sub-menus. To navigate use the UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT keys or the equivalent turn-pots.

With the LEFT/RIGHT keys the top-menus are selectable.

Entering a top-menu use the UP/DOWN keys and select a function in the sub-menu. To modify the value of the selected function use the LEFT/RIGHT keys again. The change appears immediately and will be stored as the new setting.

Menu Operation

Press the POWER button to switch on the monitor, then press the MENU button, the OSD menu will show on screen. Press the MENU button again to quit the OSD menu.

In OSD menu, press LEFT and RIGHT buttons or use the equivalent turn-pots to choose different menu items: Picture, Image adjustments, Setup, PIP/PBP, and system status.

Press UP and DOWN buttons or use the equivalent turn-pots to enter or exit sub-menu. If sub-menu items are marked by the drop-down sub-menu group with icon; turn it to open or close the drop-down sub-menu group.

In sub-menu, press LEFT and RIGHT buttons or use the equivalent turn-pots to select the sub-menu item operation.

Note: When the menu window is not enough to show all the sub menu items, it will show up/down arrow for the rest items.

Factory Reset

This function is to reset the monitor to factory preset settings.

Please try to reset the monitor, when the following situations happen:

•

The monitor parameters are adjusted incorrect by user.

•

The monitor picture or sound is abnormal, and not due to hardware problem.

To do factory rest, please do the following steps:

•

Press MENU button to enter main menu

•

Select the item SETUP

•

Select the item Factory Reset

•

Follow the instruction to turn the direction button, the screen will refresh.

•

Power off the monitor, and must wait for at least 5 seconds then restart the monitor. The monitor resets to factory preset.

Note: Use the FACTORY RESET in any case the monitor works not as expected.

Stand Installation Instruction

This base stand installation is for KVM-1750W, KVM-2230W and KVM-2430W only

1. Screw up the base stand with 3mm x 4mm black bolts. See Picture 1:

2. See Picture 2, Picture 3 and Picture 4:

Use the screw the bolt (Mark 2) with black thin gasket (Mark 3), screw through the side bracket, then put a black thick gasket (Mark4). Then screw this bolt to the monitor side screw hole accordingly, totally 4 bolts to screw.

Please note that in Picture 3, the L1 length is shorter than L2. L1 is for the front side and L2 for at the back side.

Safety Notice

•

The place chosen to put the unit into service should be free of danger to individuals when the unit is extending or in its extended position.

•

When utilizing a motorized version of the unit it is not allowed to interfere with the moving portion during automatic extension or retraction.

•

The user is forbidden to open up the unit; it contains no user serviceable or adjustable parts.

•

Installation, upgrading, new adjustments, changes or repairs may only be carried out by an authorized technician.

•

The electrical installation of the relevant built-in frame must meet the requirements of IEC-restrictions and national regulations.

•

Pay close attention that the electrical current required by the unit is the same as the electrical current supplied to it.

•

A power outlet and an external power cut-off switch must be in close proximity to the unit and easily accessible.

•

Use only the included power cable and a correctly grounded power outlet.

•

Avoid a power connection though a multi-outlet when other power consuming devices are connected. Do not use an extension cable.

•

Any disconnection of the grounding cable inside or outside of the unit or loosening of the grounding cable is inadmissible and can lead to a dangerous situation.

•

All plugs on the connecting cables must be screwed or bolted down to the housing.

•

Discontinuation of electrical current is accomplished by pulling the power plug or switching off the external power switch.

•

Assume that it is not possible to operate the unit in a danger free manner if visible damage is present or if the unit no longer works. In this case the unit should be turned off and disconnected from the power supply and protected against further unintentional use.

•

Use only the included cables or shielded data cables with double-sided shielding connector.

•

Do not install the unit in an area with direct sunlight or in close proximity to heat sources or damp areas. Ensure that the unit receives adequate air circulation.

•

Ensure that no cables, especially no power cables, are located in traffic areas such that persons might trip or get entangled in them.

•

Transporting of the unit should only take place in the original packaging. Only this way is the unit secure from being bumped or hit.

•

Before the unit is put into operation it must be ensured that the operational-environment requirements have been net.

•

Remove the power supply before cleaning. If heavy soiling exists, the unit can be cleaned using a damp cloth with a mild cleaning agent. Ensure that no water gets into the inside of the unit through openings. The inside of the unit may only be cleaned by an authorized technician.

De plaats voor het installeren van het apparaat dient dusdanig te worden gekozen dat bij uitgeklapte resp. het uitklappen van het display geen gevaar voor personen ontstaat.

•

Bij de gemotoriseerde versie mag bij het automatisch uitklappen resp. inklappen niet in het bewegings- resp. zwenkbereik ingegrepen worden.

•

Het apparaat mag niet door de gebruiker geopend worden, het bevat geen door de gebruiker verwisselbare of instelbare onderdelen.

•

Montage, verbeteringen, nieuwe instellingen, veranderingen of reparaties mogen slechts worden uitgevoerd door gemachtigde personen.

•

De elektrische installatie van de inbouwruimte moet voldoen aan de verorderingen van de IEC-richtlijnen, resp. de nationale voorschriften.

•

Let er op, dat de op het apparaat aangegeven bedrijfsspanning met de bij u ter beschikking staande spanning overeenstemt.

•

De contactdoos voor de stroomvoorziening, respectievelijk een externe aan/uit schakelaar, moet in de nabijheid van het apparaat zijn aangebracht en makkelijk toegankelijk zijn.

•

Gebruik alleen de meegeleverde stroomkabel en een overeenkomstig de voorschriften geaarde contactdoos.

•

Vermijd een netaansluiting met contactdozen die mede gebruikt worden voor andere stroomvoorzieningen. Gebruik geen verlengsnoer.

•

Iedere onderbreking van de aardedraad binnen of buiten het apparaat of het verbreken van de aardekabel is ongeoorloofd en kan tot gevaar leiden

•

Alle stekkers aan de verbindingskabels moeten aan de behuizing vastgeschroefd of vergrendeld zijn.

•

Het uitschakelen van de spanning geschiedt door het lostrekken van de stekker resp. uitschakelen van de externe aan/uit schakelaar

•

Het is aannemelijk, dat het apparaat niet zonder gevaar te gebruiken is, als het apparaat zichtbare beschadigingen vertoont of als het apparaat niet meer werkt. In deze gevallen is het verstandig het apparaat uit te schakelen, resp. van de stroomvoorziening los te koppelen om het tegen onopzettelijk gebruik te beschermen.

•

Gebruik alleen de meegeleverde kabel of een afgeschermde datakabel met tweezijdige schermaansluiting.

•

Monteer het apparaat niet op een plaats met direct zonlicht, in de nabijheid van warmte-bronnen of op een vochtige plek. Zorg voor voldoende ventilatie van het apparaat.

•

Let er op dat er geen kabels, met name spanningskabels, in begaanbare looppaden liggen, waar personen over de kabel heen kunnen vallen of aan de kabels kunnen blijven hangen.

•

Transport van het apparaat dient uitsluitend plaats te vinden in de originele verpakking.

•

Slechts dan is het apparaat optimaal beschermd tegen stoten en schokken.

•

Voor ingebruikname van het apparaat dient vastgesteld te worden, dat het apparaat volgens de gedefinieerde omgevingsvoorwaarden in bedrijf wordt genomen.

•

Voor het schoonmaken dient het apparaat van het net losgekoppeld te worden. Bij sterke vervuiling kan het apparaat met een vochtige doek en een milde schoonmaakmiddel gereinigd worden. Pas er op dat er geen vloeistof via openingen in de binnenzijde van het apparaat terechtkomt. De binnenzijde van het apparaat mag slechts door door geautoriseerde vakbekwaam personeel
