Position Gauge Ring:
The Tension Watch comes with a Position Gauge Ring which enables you to keep a fixed distance from the hoop/tension rod to allow you to tune the drum with more consistency and accuracy. *You can also use the Tension Watch without the Position Gauge Ring, if desired.
PREPARATION BEFORE USE
1. Hold the Dial Cover and rotate the Position Gauge Ring on the bottom to extend the gauge tip. Make sure the marking on the dial cover line up with the marking on the protector. (Picture A) * When not in use, rotate the protector backwards so the gauge tip is detracted.
2. Place the Tension Watch on a level surface such as glass or a mirror and set the needle to “0” on the dial by rotating the dial inside the dial cover. (Picture B)
HOW TO USE
1. Tighten tension rods to roughly tune the drum and keep the head fairly level before using the Tension Watch.
2. Place the drum on a flat surface and put the Tension Watch on the drum head next to each tension rod to get a reading. (Picture C) *If you choose not to use the Position Gauge Ring, place the Tension Watch approximately 3/4” away from the edge of the drum when you read the tension value.
3. Go around the drum and adjust each tension rod to achieve identical tension value across all lugs. *IMPORTANT: When you tighten a tension rod, make sure that you pick up the Tension Watch and then place it back on the drum head again to get an accurate reading. Sliding the Tension Watch from one lug to the next will not result in accurate readings. *By writing down or memorizing the values, you will be able to easily replicate your desired tuning each time.
