K-S-112X INSTALLATION & OPERATION MANUAL
INSTALLATION WITHOUT A SUB-STATION SPEAKER
If you are only connecting one K-S-112X, use the instructions below for connecting on a separate channel. If more than one K-S-112X is connected to a Master and no substation speakers are connected to the K-S-112X's, you can either give each unit its own channel or connect some or all on the same channel.
Connecting K-S-112X on a separate channel
Run an individual line of Model 6303 (1 shielded pair) cable from each K-S-112X to Master as shown in Figure 1. Connect the two terminals marked MASTER on each KS-112X to the appropriate terminals on the Master model in use (See Master's instructions relating to connection of a sub-station without call origination). No connection to the two terminals marked "SPKR" on the K-S-112X is needed.

Connecting multiple K-S-112X's on the same channel
Connect one K-S-112X to another in series, as shown in Figure 2, using Model 6303 (1 shielded pair) cable. Connect the two terminals marked MASTER on the first K-S-112X to the two terminals marked SPKR on the second K-S-112X. Continue in this fashion until the last K-S-112X. On this unit, connect the two terminals marked MASTER to the appropriate terminals on the Master or Junction Box for the Master model in use (see Master's instructions relating to connection of a sub-station without call origination).
An alternative for sharing the same channel is to run a separate cable for each K-S112X and connect in parallel back to the same terminals on the Master or Junction Box.

INSTALLATION WITH A SPEAKER SUB-STATION
A speaker sub-station, working in conjunction with the K-S-112X, is needed for a Master to call the K-S-112X location. Many Talk-A-Phone sub-stations are available.
Place the speaker sub-station so it provides the coverage desired. Place the K-S-112X at operating level near the speaker sub-station. Run a line of Model 6303 (1 shielded pair) cable from the sub-station to the SPKR terminals on the K-S-112X; then run a line of cable from the MASTER terminals on the K-S-112X to the Master or Master's junction box (see Figure 3).

Special Instructions for Hands-Free Masters
All Automation Masters (those using TAP-200 or TAP-200C Amplifiers or TAP-1 or TAP-6 Masters) must Remove the l0 ohm, 10 watt resistor from terminals LB and LG on the TAP-200/TAP-200C Amplifier or TAP-1/TAP-6 Master. Instead, install a l0 ohm resistor of this type across the audio cable line going to each speaker sub-station in the system. (NOTE: Do not attach a resistor to signal line of sub-stations with call switches). The K-S-112X will not function in Automation systems using speaker substations if this step is not taken.
ADJUSTING MICROPHONE SENSITIVITY

K-S-112X INSTALLATION/OPERATION
As shipped, the K-S-112X has a jumper installed across the 1 and 2 terminals and a resistor taped inside. To adjust the sensitivity, use the chart below:
Microphone
Setting
Sensitivity
Low Jumper across 1&2 Medium Resistor across 1&3 High Resistor across 1&2 Very High No jumper or resistor
OPERATION WITHOUT A SPEAKER SUB-STATION
The station selector button on the Master that has been assigned to the K-S-112X's must be kept on at all times. However, when the handset is on its rest, the K-S-112X remains silent. Any K-S-112X can call the Master unit by lifting the handset and speaking into the mouthpiece. The master can respond and carry on a two-way conversation.
OPERATION WITH A SPEAKER SUB-STATION
When the handset of the K-S-112X is on its rest, the system is idle and incoming calls are received through the speaker if one is in use. Lifting the handset from its rest automatically disconnects the speaker in use and directs both incoming and outgoing voice only through the handset. Once the Master has established communication, no controls need be operated at the K-S-112X.
Calls can be originated from the speaker sub-station through the use of Model K-Sl00W Call Switch (or built-in switch on K-LR-3W and on TAP-LR-3W) in those systems where this call switch can be utilized. Operate Call Switch as per instructions for model in use. Call Switch need only be used to originate calls, and need not be operated once communication has been established between the Master and K-S-112X.
If the K-S-112X does not function, check all wiring and with systems utilizing TAP-200 or TAP-200C Amplifier, or TAP-1 or TAP-6 Master, check that the l0 ohm resistor has been removed from terminals LG and LB on the TAP-200 or TAP-200C and that l0 ohm resistors have been placed across the audio lines (and not switch lines) of the Speaker Sub-Stations as described above.
