INSTALLATION
Place each station in the desired location. Run a separate length of TALK-A-PHONE #6303 (3-conductor shielded) cable from each Sub-Station to the Master. Connect as shown in diagram on following page: Connect bare wire of #6303 to terminal “R” on the Master and to terminal “3” on Sub. Note that wire from terminal “2” on each Sub-Station connects to terminal number of the Sub-Station in the system. Note also that lead wires (of matching colors to TALK-A-PHONE cable) extend from rear of model K-LR-3W, and are used for connection. Model K-LR-3 has terminal strips.
Underneath the Master (and desk style Sub-Station) is a cable clamp. Remove screw on cable clamp and pass interconnecting cable underneath clamp. Adjust cable clamp so that it holds cable securely, and replace screw.
The Master Station is powered by a separate power supply (part no. 86354), which connects to the “+” and “-“ terminals on the terminal strip on the bottom of the unit. The black wire on the power supply connects to the “-“ (minus) terminal, and the black with white stripe wire connects to the “+” (plus) terminal. Should your installation require grounding of the unit itself, you can connect a ground wire to the “G” terminal on that terminal strip. The power supply cord should be routed through the strain relief on the bottom of the chassis.
Care should be taken that no part of the cable is too near electric or telephone wiring, etc., nor should it be shorted to any grounded conductors, radiators, pipes, beams, etc., and the bare wire at the various terminals should not short from one terminal to the other nor the metal chassis. When staples are used to hold the cable in place, use only insulated staples and do not drive them in so hard as to cause the wires inside the cable to short to each other.
CONTROLS
VOLUME CONTROL: Located at the left of the cabinet on the Master Station only. Rotate clockwise to
increase volume.
STATION SELECTOR SWITCHES: Located across front of the cabinet on the Master Station only. To select Sub-Station corresponding to number above switch, push "in" with slight pressure. More than one switch can be depressed at the same time. Return switches to “off” position by pushing again.
TALK-LISTEN CONTROL: Located on the right of the cabinet, (left on the K-LR-3W). Push in to “talk”; release to “listen”.
TRANSLUCENT INDICATORS: There is one located to the right and below the volume control knob on Master Station which indicates that unit has power. Adjacent to each station selector switch is a translucent indicator which will go “on” to indicate that a call is coming in from that particular sub-station. The light will go out when that station selector switch is pushed “in” to answer the incoming call.
INCOMING TONE CONTROL: The incoming tone volume, which is controlled by the volume control setting of the master, can independently be made louder or softer by moving the two position switch on the bottom of the unit.

KB-ML-5WA & KB-ML-10WA Instructions
OPERATION OF MASTER STATIONS
These systems have been designed for use where one Central Location must communicate with other locations, but these other locations do not need to communicate with one another. ONE AND ONLY ONE MASTER STATION CAN BE USED IN EACH KB-ML-5WA or KB-ML-10WA SYSTEM.
In Moderate to Low Noise Level Areas, use Talk-A-Phone Model K-LR-3 or K-LR-3W Sub-Stations.
For High Noise Level Areas, or In Very Large Locations, use Talk-A-Phone Models K-C-20(V) or K-
HP-3(V) in place of Models K-LR-3(W) Sub-Stations. Model K-C-20(V) will supply more than 3 times as much volume. Model K-HP-3(V) will furnish more than twice the volume. K-C-20(V) is a Re-Entrant Horn and is more directional than the K-HP-3(V).
Depress the station selector switch corresponding to the Sub-Station you wish to communicate with. You can call more than one station at a time by pushing in multiple buttons simultaneously. When not communicating with any station, leave the station selector switches in the “off” position (raised up) and you can avoid listening to sounds coming from Sub-Station locations (Sub-Stations can still call the Master). After completing a conversation, return station selector switches to “off” position.
Push “in” the Talk-Listen Control and talk. Release the Talk-Listen Control and listen. Then adjust the Volume Control until desired volume is obtained.
When a Sub-Station calls the Master, the translucent indicator adjacent to that station number will go on and an incoming tone will be heard. The light and tone will go off when the call is answered.
OPERATION OF SUB-STATIONS
Sub-Stations can answer the Master Station without any operation on the part of the person at the SubStation, and at a distance from the Sub-Station. To originate a call from a Sub-Station merely depress the Talk-Listen Control on the Sub-Station (use K-S-100W origination-of-call switch with K-HP-3(V) and K-C-20(V)). Once the person at the Master Station has answered you, there is no further need to operate the switch on the Sub-Station while carrying on a conversation.
Model K-HP-50 Power Booster can be added to the system at any time and connected to Talk-A-Phone paging speakers, as Models K-LR-2 (R), K-HP-3(V), K-C-20(V). Use of the K-HP-50 will provide a oneway paging circuit whereby any Master Station can page, but persons at the paging speakers cannot reply or originate calls. Connect the K-HP-50 to its own station number in the system.
Close proximity of the Sub-Stations to the Master Station may result in a howl (acoustical feedback) when either one calls the other. Reduce the volume on the Master Station or keep them partitioned from each other. The Master Station controls the volume of the system with these models.
BROADCASTING MATERIAL OVER THE INTERCOM SUB-STATIONS: You can connect an amplified program source (mono, 10-20 watts for 8 ohm speakers) to the Master as shown on the attached drawing. The program material will automatically play through the intercom speakers (as well as the Master Station for monitoring purposes) unless the system is being used for communication.
PRIVACY CRADLE PHONE (OPTION): When Cradle Phone is at rest, the station operates the same as model without Cradle Phone. Removing Cradle Phone from its rest automatically disconnects the loud speaker within the station and directs incoming and outgoing voice only through Cradle Phone.
On Masters, push in Master’s talk-listen control to talk and release to listen with the Cradle Phone in use. On Sub-Stations, note the additional push button control located in the center of the Cradle Phone. Depress push button control to “talk,” release to “listen” during conversation. When Sub-Station originates a call to the Master, operate both the push button control on the Cradle Phone and the TalkListen Control on the Sub-Station, pressing to “talk,” releasing to “listen”.
