CU-16 Area of Rescue Command Unit Installation Instructions
I. Components
Model CU-16 consists of the following components:

II. Assembly
1) Remove the seven (7) screws holding the cover of the stainless steel enclosure in place.
Carefully remove cover and place in a safe location for re-attachment later.
2) Mount enclosure on wall as described. NOTE: Opening exists on back of enclosure for rear
access to 120VAC. Determine method of bringing power to enclosure before mounting
enclosure on wall.
3) Mount the Strobe/Siren Assembly on wall in an appropriate location, per the instructions
packed with the Strobe/Siren Assembly. For wiring instructions, refer to Section (d) of “CU-16
Wire Harness Connections”.
4) Complete self-adhesive instruction label by filling in the location of each rescue station in your
system. Remove the label backing and place label where it is visible to the operating
personnel.
6) Attach RJ11 connectors of lines coming from Emergency Phone to ports 1-8 on the
appropriate EC-8 Consolidator. If a telephone or PBX line is to be used in addition to the
phone in the enclosure, attach a separate phone line to the “TELCO IN” Port on the EC-8.
7) Remove the protective covering on the front and back of the two Lexan windows. Carefully
place each window over the studs in the rear of the cover as shown. Secure with hex. nuts
(provided).
8) Connect 120VAC to the Power Source as indicated “L - N - GND (symbol)”. The green LED
on the Power Source near the terminal will illuminate.
9) Place the two batteries on the shelf inside the enclosure, below the power source. Connect
the cable from the “BAT” terminal point on the power source to the two batteries (Red cable –
positive to the positive of one battery and Black cable – negative to the negative of the other
battery. The two batteries are connected in series via two quick disconnect terminals on
either end of the cable).
10) Place cover over enclosure and re-secure with screws removed in Step 1.

III. Programming
1) Program EC-8 per Instructions packed with that unit. Be sure the EC-8 is set for “LOCAL
PHONE ONLY” operation or “LOCAL/TELCO” alternation if an outside phone line or a PBX
line is used in the system.
2) Program each Emergency Phone per Instructions packed with that phone. Be sure to
program feature *78* in addition to any other features selected. NOTE: If no outside phone
line or PBX line is used, program the number to be called as *13*5555555*. This is
necessary for proper system function.
