Safe Installation and Operation of the GPS Receiver
Before installation or use, carefully read all instructions in this section for correct and safe installation and operation. After reading, keep this document handy for future reference.
Warning Incorrect installation of the GPS receiver may result in serious injury. The GPS receiver could break loose due to the extreme forces applied during a collision or braking. Regularly check that the GPS receiver is secure.
Warning Install the GPS receiver where it will not interfere with the deployment of airbags, the vehicle operator controls, and the vehicle operator’s view.
Notice Where extreme surface temperatures are expected (in excess of 100°C), a nonmetallic cover should be used to protect the receiver (not supplied).
Notice When installing the GPS receiver, ensure cables are protected from engine heat, sharp edges, and from being pinched or crushed. Use appropriate cable grommets where necessary.
Installation
1 Drill any holes required for cables and install suitable fasteners in the holes.
2 Run the connector cable to the radio and plug it into the 15-way auxiliary connector.
The GPS receiver may still function if positioned away from a vehicle window, but its accuracy will be poor. For optimal performance, position the GPS receiver so that it is exposed to the sky.
Some windscreens contain metal that reduces satellite signal strength. The area behind the rearview mirror is not usually metallized, so it may be a good place to install the GPS receiver.
3 Attach the supplied 3M double-sided tape to the base of the receiver, then attach the
receiver to the chosen surface.
4 Tie up any unused or loose cables.
