HARDTOP INSTALLATION
Always use high-quality, stainless-steel hardware when mounting the base. Do not attempt to weld the base to any surface.
1. Choose the desired mounting position on your hardtop, using the Top Mount Orientation guide for the GS-170 below.
2. Use the Plastic Sub-Base, or provided GS-170 Drill Template, to have aluminum or starboard mounting plates fabricated to match the GS-170 base exactly.
TACO BP-150 Grand Slam Backing Plates will t, but have a hole is the center, as they are designed to t the GS-280 and GS-380 units.
3. Mark the location of the four (4) mounting holes through the holes in the Plastic Sub-Base or by using the provided GS-170 Drill Template.
(Note: Before using the drill template provided, please ensure dimensions are to scale.)
4. Using a 3/8” drill bit, drill each corner hole for the mount through the hardtop – OR – For a soft core or hollow core hardtop, drill each hole with a 7/16” drill bit.
5. Measure the thickness of the hardtop in order to decide if longer bolts are necessary. This will vary depending on the thickness of the hardtop.
6. Put a bead of marine-grade silicone sealant around all four holes on the flat side of the Plastic Sub Base.
DO NOT add silicone between the GS-170 Base and Plastic Sub Base. The center groove line acts as a drain for the inside part of the mount.
7. Place the Plastic Sub Base on top of the hardtop, directly over the holes drilled in the top with the Drain Slot facing up.
8. Line up all four holes of the GS-170 Base on top of the Plastic Sub-Base
9. Insert the bolts through the mounting base, Plastic Sub-Base, hardtop and backing plate
10. Install the stainless-steel Lock Washers and 5/16” stainless-steel Nuts
11. Tighten with a 3/16” Allen Wrench and 5/16” socket or wrench

CANVAS TOP
INSTALLATION
Preperation
1. When installing the Grand Slam mount on a canvas top (see Figure 1), a mounting plate must first be installed running forward and aft on each side between the brace bars of the T-top for additional structural support
2. If there is no mounting plate, contact your local retailer for details or marine aluminum fabricator to have plates welded in your Canvas T-top
3. If you are having plates made, they should be 3/8” thick by 5” wide and long enough to fit between the brace bars
4. Weld the plates to the frame and brace bars
5. The mounting plates should be welded on 3 sides
