Should you decide not to read this manual
you will miss out on an important lecture – but you can still catch up at any time!
Installing the TC-H0 Coupling
Step 1
Fit each end of the wagon with a coupling (cable base colours: white front, yellow rear)
(see the TC-H0 coupling Instruction Manual).
Step 2
The white / black cable in chamber 1 put (see also page 15) Insert the white/red cable into hole 2.
Insert the white/grey cable into hole 3. Insert the white/pink cable into hole 4.
Step 3
The yellow / black cable in chamber 1 put Insert the yellow/red cable into hole 2.
Insert the yellow/grey cable into hole 3. Insert the yellow/pink cable into hole 4.
Step 4
The plug connector with the yellow cables on the page pocket which is marked by Lötpads
on both pages of the plug connector (see also page 13 following) Put the connectors with the white cables on the opposite end.
What you have achieved so far:
1. A locomotive, equipped with a LD-1x decoder and TC-H0, will automatically identify the
coupled wagon, no matter where it is located within the train set.
2. The locomotive will read and process the WD-PWxxx data
3. The locomotive can uncouple the wagon, usually by activating function 1 (see CV201 of
the locomotive decoder).
4. The locomotive will automatically know on which end of the locomotive the wagon is
hitched and which end is facing the locomotive.
5. The wagon's interior lighting can be turned on and off with the TCCS-addresse in speed
step 0 (all wagons) or with the speed step according to the position within the train set. The
brightness may also be adjusted via the locomotive decoder's CVs (CV 178 & CV 179).
6. The colour gradation of the interior lighting can be adjusted in fine degrees from bright
yellow to bright white.
Connecting the wagon’s rear lights
Step 1
Carry out steps 1 to 4 to connect the TC-H0 couplings.
Step 2
Connect the rear light on the „white“ coupling end to the decoder's soldering contacts that
are located on the left side when facing direction of travel (looking on the components' side). If you are using LEDs, the anode (positive pole) of the LED with the soldering point on top (decoder's components' side) needs to be connected with the other pole where the soldering point is at the bottom (side of LED). For light bulbs the polarity is irrelevant. Note: Both lighting connections should be insulated from the track! T4T also offers suita-

ble LED rear lights for carriages. Note: Both lighting connections should be insulated from the track!
Step 3
Connect the rear lights on the “yellow” coupling end to the decoder's soldering contacts
that are located on the right side when facing direction of travel (looking on the components' side).
What you have achieved so far:
1. Of course the previously mentioned functions.
2. The rear lights will automatically switch on and off with the direction (note CV 169 of the
LD-1x).
3. When a locomotive with a LD-1x decoder is coupled to the wagon, the decoder automati-
cally recognizes the wagon and whether it is at the end of the train set, then the rear lights
will light according to direction.
4. The intensity of the lighting can be set individually (see LD-1x Manual „Programming
Wagon CV's“)
Setting up a double deck coach
Follow all previously mentioned steps for setting up TC-H0 and rear lights. The bottom light bar WD-PW-DS may have to be shortened for use with the double deck
coach.
ATTENTION: The section marked with 1 has to be broken off before the section marked
with 2!
Should the light bar be still too long, the section marked with 2 may also be broken off.
Note: This procedure cannot be reversed!
The 4-pin connector of the WD-PWxxx needs to be connected with the 4-pin connector of
the WD-PW-DS by means of the enclosed cable. The orientation of the cable is arbitrary.
What you have achieved so far:
1. All the previously mentioned functions.
2. The bottom light bar WD-PW-DS' brightness and colour gradation can now be controlled
via the light bar that is integrated in the decoder WD-PWxxx.
Setting up a control car
Follow all previously mentioned steps for setting up TC-H0, WD-PW-DS and rear lights. Connect the head light of the control car to the „yellow“ coupling end of the decoder. Con-
nect the contacts 5 & 6of the 6-pin connector to the head light. If you are using LEDs, the
anode (positive pole) of the LED needs to be connected to contact 6. The other pole needs
to be connected to contact 5. For light bulbs the polarity is irrelevant.
What you have achieved so far:
1. All the previously mentioned functions.

! Important note concerning the locomotive-decoder !
The integration of new decoders into the TCCS usually requires updating the locomotive decoders
that have been acquired before the delivery of the WD-PWxxx decoder. Please note that the LD-1x
decoder software requires at least the following version numbers:
CV 255 greater 16
or
CV 255 = 16 and CV 253 greater 5.
2. The control car's head light is coordinated with the locomotive's direction of travel (see CV
169 in the train- leading locomotive decoder).
Connecting a pickup shoe
A connected pickup shoe allows for a continued illumination even after the locomotive has
been uncoupled.
If only one wagon within the train set has a pickup shoe, this wagon – even after uncou-
pling of the locomotive - supplies all other wagons of the train set until a locomotive takes over supplying the train set.
Connect the pickup shoe, located on the right, front side when facing in the direction of
forward travel (white coupling side faces the front) to the solder contact on the decoder’s bottom side. Look in direction of the traffic forward (white coupling side points to the locomotive), then the solder contacts of the rail connection are on the right side of the decod-
er.
Connect the pickup shoe on the left top side. Follow absolutely the hints to the component TS-1 Protect on page 10!
What you have achieved so far:
1. Of course the previously mentioned functions.
2. Even after the locomotive has been uncoupled, the lighting of the complete train set re-
mains stable. Thus, one pickup shoe per train set is sufficient in order to change locomo-
tives.
3. In addition, when in motion, a WD-PWxxx with railway siding supports the energy supply
of a complete train set incl. locomotive.
How to use the WD-PWxxx and this manual efficiently
With the decision to install a WD-PWxxx decoder into your wagon, you have also opened up the
possibility of using the TCCS system from T4T. This innovative digital technology requires a thor-
ough understanding of the new functions. Even if you have an extensive know-how and a lot of experience, it is essential that you read this manual. Please note that the WD-xxxxx series of decoders can only be used in conjunction with the LD-1x series of decoders. It is useful to also read the manual for the decoder series LD-1x!
If this decoder initiates your first steps in the country of the digital technology, you read please before the installation and the introduction of the product urgently the chapter "Installation hints" from
page 13 and afterwards the interesting chapters, in particular the hints to the TCCS.

Basic features
The wagon-decoder WD-PWxxx has been designed for gauge H0 model trains. In addition to the
integrated light function, it also offers 4 digital outputs. In order to use the decoder with all commonly used models, it is available in 5 different lengths: 115, 170, 230, 260 and 290 mm. A unique
feature is the colour-variable light bar that offers a yellow as well as a white LED per colour point
(between 4 and 8 depending on the length). The intensity of the yellow and white colour points is
able individually regulated
become by which to itself one for all eras and vehicles suitable colour shade is regulated! Of course
a big capacity capacitor is integrated in the light bar for a completely flicker-free operation.
The decoder is controlled via T4T train bus and TCCS. Its functions can be activated by any stand-
ard DCC-systems (e.g. Arnold Digital, Lenz Digital Plus, ROCO digital is cool, Uhlenbrock Intellibox, Zimo MX-1, etc).
All WD-GWx decoders have two connections for the automatic coupling TC-H0. These connec-
tions are not among the previously mentioned function outputs. The control of the couplings and the
wagon functions via the T4T train bus is known as
TCCS: TrainCoupling&CommunicationSystem.
TCCS stands for a revolutionary new model train playing experience.
WD-PWxxx brings PC and model trains closer together. The automated train provides extensive data for PC-interfaces via its checkback system. It supports the formats Lissy (Uhlenbrock), trainnavigation (Fleischmann) and TRAM (T4T).
This product also offers a variety of new functions as well as an update function so that it will re-
main up-to-date for many years to come. – A service for the model trainman.
WD-PWxxx and his luminous means
With the decoders of the WD-PWxxx series it is possible to light up vehicles of the gauge H0 prototypical. All luminous means in the trainset are operateable by remote control and dimmable - with-
out own pickup shoes in the model! . Nevertheless, this also means that the locomotive must take up the whole energy for the train and pass on. Hence, it is necessary to use only luminous means which

handle economically with energy. Today LED are available in all colours, also many white shades. Do not use electric light bulbs. In particular with long trains it can come to the overload of the train
bus and with it to the compulsive disconnection. T4T offers suitable luminous means for 16 - 20 V.
If LED's are connected, a preresistor has to be switched in series. Resistance values in the area of
from 1 to 5 kOhm are suitable according to the LED model.
WD-PWxxx and the DCC Protocol
The WD-PWxxx series decoders are not necessary directly connected to the track. They are connected to the coupling TC-H0 via the T4T train bus. This happens simply by hitching the wagon up to a locomotive fitted with a TC-H0 coupling. In order to activate the functions of the WD-GWx
there are 2 DCC compatible procedures available, which can be activated by any good DCC system.
The exact functionality becomes in the chapter"WD-PWxxx and the T4T Train Automation (TCCS)"from page 19 described.
WD-PWxxx and running in km/h
The set speed limits in CVs 136 to 139 (SW 2 and higher) for each wagon are read and processed according to driving direction via the lead locomotive through TCCS. The locomotive will run at the set speed limit despite the controller having a high speed. This way the derailing of wagons can be avoided. Wagons which can only run in one direction (e.g. track cleaning wagons) require a 0 to be entered into both respective CVs for the forbidden direction. To restrict running in the „white coupling“ direction, a value of 0 must be entered into CV 136/137; for the „yellow coupling“ direc-
tion, write 0 in CV 138/139. Speed limits are programmed separately. The programming process for wagon decoder CVs is described in the locomotive LD-1x manual.
WD-PWxxx and the automatic train (TCCS)
WD-PWxxx can do more than just mechanically and electrically connect your wagon with the train. In conjunction with the automatic coupling TC-H0 and the respective locomotive decoders LD-1x, your entire train can be automated using the DCC protocol - with any DCC capable control system. The coupling TC-H06 establishes a 2-pin, conductive connection that can be disconnected at any
position of the train set.1 The coupling made for the NEM 362 pocket (main coupling method used by major manufacturers for H0 gauge) supplies the whole train with power. There is no need for
pickups to be made for the wagons.
We call this system TCCS TrainCoupling&CommunicationSystem
In this way the wagon decoder gets its power via the TC-H0 and handles the supply for internal lighting. It automatically switches the rear lighting on the end wagon, ensuring flicker-free lighting and other similar features. For PC-controlled systems the IR feedback system TRAM (SW 2 and higher) calculates the train
length, identifies each individual wagon for monitor tracking and totals the full length and weight of
the train.
TC-H0 corresponds with regard to all dimensions the recommendation according to standards of
European model railways 362 and is suitable for close coupling, i.e. contrived for the prototypical
driving buffer in buffer. Document: SW 3.0 / 01www.tec4trains.deSeite 9 from 42

WD-PWxxx and the railway siding
Generally speaking, all WD-xxx decoders (incl. the WD-PWxxx) are supplied by the coupling bus
via TCCS. Thus it is not necessary that each wagon that shall be lit has its own railway siding. Most production models do not have their own tracking shoes and upgrading them is mostly diffi-
cult and leads to bad riding qualities.
If a train, e.g. during a locomotive change, shall be continuously lit even after the locomotive has been diconnected, at least one wagon decoder needs to have a railway siding. A specific feature of the TCCS consists in the fact that after moving away the locomotive this situation change is automatically recognised and one or several WD PWxxx decoders undertake the train supply, until a new one or the same locomotive is coupled to one of the train ends! The new locomotive replaces the wagon decoder immediately and takes over the train's supply. These procedures take place un-
noticeable by a spectator since it is flicker-free. But also in regular traction operations, a wagon-decoder with railway sidings helps a locomotive supply the complete train system. Each WD-PWxxx with trackautomatically feeds energy into the
train bus that can then be collected by the locomotive as well as by any other wagon. This feature helps the locomotive, especially in long train sets and prevents a compulsive disconnection by su-
perheating during long, uninterrupted journeys.
Of course a locomotive with contact probelms of it own can also demand energy via train bus – thus
avoiding a break down.
We call this system TCCS – One for everybody – Everybody for one!
Connect the pickup shoe, located on the right, front side when facing in the direction of forward travel (white coupling side faces the front) to the solder contact on the decoder’s bottom side. Look in direction of the traffic forward (white coupling page points to the locomotive), then the solder
contacts of the rail connection are on the right page of the decoder (see also 14). The connection between WD-PWxxx and track occurs according to following sketch about the component WDTS-1 Protect.
Especially during the following operation situations this component is essential:

If the TC-H0 coupling is not used (e.g. on the front end of a steam locomotive or rear wagon) a single IR transmitter (IR-Diode) can be fixed to the underside of the vehicle and connected to a decoder (LD-1x or WD-xxx). In analogy to the TC-H0-cable colours, the diode can be installed with white or yellow cables.
Important advice:
Due to the fact that the previous described situations can also appear unintended, it is urgently rec-
ommended to use the subassembly TS-1 Protect.
Please, note the corresponding hints in the current manual to the LD-1x as well!
- Crossing of Booster section points, if the Boosters are fed by different transformators
- Setting up of train sets with more than 2 vehicles provided in each case with a rail connec-
tion
- Use of Märklin braking distances if more than 1 vehicle has a rail connection
WD-PWxxx and the train identification (TRAM & Lissy)
WD-PWxxx supports the infrared communication based feedback systems Lissy (Uhlenbrock), train-navigation(Fleischmann) and TRAM (T4T). When using the TC-H0 coupling, the transmitter
for the infra red is automatically installed with the coupling and connected to the decoder. As the coupling and thus the IR LED, or the individual IR diode without coupling, can be installed on ei-
ther end of the wagon, the sender is always at the front, regardless of the train direction! WDPWxxx therefore has two separate outputs for the installation of two IR transmitters (already builtin the TC-H0).
Please note that when a new vehicle is added to the train set the transmitting station may have to change, e.g. when a new car is added at the head of the train in direction of travel. The transmitter
will be activated only when the new wagon has been identified (see chapter "LD-1x and T4T Train (TCCS)").
Note, that the IR-data needs to be transmitted permanently for the receiver to receive reliable data of the vehicles that pass the receiving station. If this data is sent via WD-PWxxx or WD-GWx, the
uninterruptable power supply in the locomotive ensures that the IR transmitter receives data without break, even with dirty rails. For senders which are not connected to the uninterruptable power supply, dirty track can lead to interruption and “missing” the train in an instance. In order to achieve
optimum use in this situation the TRAM format is sent via each coupling.
The fact that - thanks to the TCCS options - the locomotive-decoder LD-1x automatically activates the IR-transmitting station that is located at the head of the train (considering the direction of travel) is of utmost relevance. This can be a TC-H0 coupling, connected to a decoderLD-1x, or any other coupling in the train, and then connected to WD-PWxxx or WD-GWx. The decoder automatically
recognizes which transmitting station has to be used. This is important for the correct halt of a vehi-
cles e.g. before a signal. Pushed trains always transmit their IR-data (any format) from the coupling in the car at the head of the train (in direction of travel).

All T4T-vehicle-decoders send data over the IR LED (either integrated into the TC-H0 or item IRDiode) via the trackto the IR receiver RMS-1, Lissy or Train Navigation.
If you have a compatible system from Uhlenbrock or Fleischmann, you will need to set the relevant transmitting details in the locomotive's CVs 150 – 153. The values correspond with those of the
original manufacturers.
T4T's train manager TRAM will become available with SW 3. This checkback system does not only transmit data from the locomotive but also data of each individual car and of the complete train set.
However, the data of the TRAM-system cannot be evaluated by the previously mentioned Uhlen-
brock and Fleischmann receivers. Existing receiving systems of the previously mentioned manu-
facturers will however not be influenced or disturbed.
The following vehicle data will be transmitted to the sensors (RMS-1) that need to be installed between the crossties (current range):
DCC-address of the locomotive: 16 Bit (extended or primary address) Factory serial number of the decoders for track-occupied-message and vehicle identifica-
tion; 26 Bit (each decoder has a unchangeable number, thus making it unique; approx. 67
million numbers are reserved)
Recognition of travelling direction; 2 Bit (no double diode in track necessary!) Speed in km/h; 9 Bit (0 – 511 km/h) Track conditions as a cleaning feeback; 2 Bit Train length in cm; 10 Bit (0 – 1023 cm) special function Bit 0-3: Functional model / bit 4 – 15: Functional contents
e.g.: Train weight in t; train type, etc.
WD-PWxxx and the update feature
The carriage decoders WD-PWxxx are extended with regard to her functions constantly and are
improved, in particular also the TCCS. To make these innovations accessible to all users of the de-
coders, the software either work-sided or about the program adaptor "decoder manager" can be
transferred by the user even in the decoder. For an update, the wagon does not need to be opened. The process lasts few seconds with an update about the train bus TCCS. The software can be
charged about our web page.
